Please can someone help?!

Post by Yafs »

I was driving my 2010 reg Citroen C3 1.4 earlier and after suddenly I couldn't accelerate past 10mph.
I waited 30 minutes, started the engine up again and it went to 30mph and above perfectly fine.
I spoke to Citroen who said to have a look if an orange engine symbol came up on the dashboard - but it didn't.
I had my car washed inside and out this morning and Citroen reckoned they may have knocked the speed limit stalk by accident.
I checked and it was on "limit", so I put it back to the middle.
I drove it around the block over 30mph and there was no problem.
I need to go on motorway tomorrow and am very worried it may happen again.
Any advice? Please?

So, at the moment the car appears to be running OK? Is the dealer trying to
say you had cruise control on as this always deactivates if you want to
accelerate but if allowed to drops back to the selected speed. No idea on
the spec of your car I'm afraid as I don't know the newer era Cits so can only
offer generic advice.

I would like to comment on your concern for the motorway journey. To take the
anxiety out of the equation I feel it would (literally) pay to have recovery type
car rescue cover with someone like Greenflag, RAC or the AA where for around
£30-40 (there's cheaper roadside cover for around £20 but you want recovery
really) you would at least get home with the car or complete your intended
journey whilst the intermittent nature of your car's problem either go's away
or firms up in it's mind what it's doing.

Your Citroen dealer appears to have identified the source of the limited speed as in the speed limiter had been activated, as you have now turned that off the car should drive normally. The purpose of the speed limiter is to do as the title says if for instance you are driving in a posted speed limited area and don't wish to risk exceeding the speed limit, however even with the speed limiter set if you apply maximum throttle the limiter will be over-ridden and you will still be able to accelerate. If you wish to set a higher limited speed then simply press on the increase speed button just as you would do for cruise control. Have a read of the car handbook for a full explanation.
