Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi folks. Fred has always done around 950kms a tank in the winter but the last 2 tanks I've struggled to get even 800kms. I've not put the air con accidently on! Cold start is a bit more difficult so I have 1 or more glow plugs gone. She drives well, same gears for the hills, and passed her emission test last month. There's a little smoke on start...

Although there is no 'enrichment' mechanism on a diesel it does use a lot more fuel when cold purely because the engine is running inefficiently. On the same trip referred to earlier the first few days were very cold and the fuel consumption on a fairly flat but traffic less road was around 50 mpg, rising to 60+mpg once hot.

Hi All

The Xantia is now SORN for a couple of months so will not run on the road till April.
Thinking of starting and warming up a bit every three-four weeks and moving backwards and forwards on the drive and up a down suspension a few times. Battery will need a charge a bit as well.

Any other ideas for making sure nothing is damaged from the...

Soak the underside totally with a hose and rinse out the arches and anything else under there where water can get.
It will wash out any salt hiding in there and if you let the engine warm thoroughly then the heat off the exhaust and engine will help dry it out. Also stick the suspension on low but have the wheels on bricks(two bricks per wheel...

Well, good to have it narrowed down a bit, but don't be surprised if the CV alone doesn't fix it.
There's a carrier bearing for the drive shaft, running across the back of the engine. This may well be in trouble.
You may also find the inner joint is in bother. That comes as part of a shaft. For £50 extra, it may be that you're getting a shaft...

On Thursday afternoon I've got a man coming to remap the engine on my 2.0 Hdi C5 X7. Currently it's at the factory 136 hp setting, so I'm looking forward to having a few more horsepowers liberated.
My previous Mk1 was also mapped and when I passed it on, at over 180,000 miles, the engine was going as well as ever, so I have no qualms about getting...

This is really annoying me now!

PRV engine, the engine ran for a few moments, then stopped.... and hasnt ran again.

Checked the harness point to point!
Changed Coil
Changed Amp Module,
Leads ok
etc etc

The only thing I can think of is there is a Capacitor to earth connection by the coil. Could a dead capacitor stop it from sparking! Need to...

Ok, apologies if the terminology is incorrect here, but hopefully it'll make sense!

My C2 is getting water in one of the connectors that plug into the engine management system - of the three its the one nearest the front of the car.

Causing the car to cut out /low rev etc.

I would suggest that you cover the Ecu with a plastic bags mate or some other waterproof covering. Water near the Ecu plugs could cause it to fry the Ecu and that's a bill you don't want ! :)

It probably has... it would have had one from the factory, it was the Xantia 2.0 HDi that didn't have one..

My C5 hasn't got one either, but that's because it was replaced by a solid flywheel kit some time ago.

I have had the following problem with this vehicle for over 2 years: The engine speed is limited and will not exceed 3800-4000 rpm when stationary (out of gear) and will not exceed 3500rpm when under load regardless of selected gear. At this rpm the engine seems to back fire...

hi tried to put my new stereo got yesterday for Christmas tried wiring to the live on the ignition and got short circuit blew very big fuse under bonnet i have replaced the fuse as the ignition would not turn on now the van wont start it turns over ok and will fire very briefly with a spray of easy start then dies again so no diesel getting...

When you were messing with the fuses have you pulled one out & put it back in the wrong place ? There are usually empty slots in the fusebox for equipment that isn't fitted to all models, if it was working fine until the fuse blew then it sounds highly likley that's what may have happened.

Here we go again, I thought the car was sorted out but died again today. Missed a couple of times but kept going then cut out at a road junction, great.
Wouldn't restart so did the usual and disconnected the MAF, started but not happy. Got it home (2 miles) and trying to cut out towards the end, kept the revs up and just made it before it cut out...

Mike, have you tried 'hot-wiring' the starter solenoid - connecting it straight to the battery - and seeing if that makes a difference? That's effectively what the starter relay mod does.

A car that will not raise at the rear !....feck !

Not looked yet....but anything special to look for on the X7 C5 Tourer Exclusive....I am presuming grease the dog bone/ free the height adjuster ?

It has a plastic splash shield as such, I will make a new dog bone using stainless rod and connectors with gaiter.

But YES, I would say it is an area on the new X7 C5's that most defiantly needs regular checking but VERY easy to get to.............for those of us still on a liquid ride that is

HI

I noticed fuel leaking from the stop solenoid of my Bosch VE - type fuel pump. I presume in this case I can simply screw it off and change the seal with no need to take the pump apart??

hi all can anyone help how can i get the diesel pump to run wiring it from the ignition citroen relay 2.2 mk2 as cant get van to run after short circuit replaced blown fuse to ignition so now cranks but no diesel getting through any ideas as ive been out there all day having no luck dark now so back at it in the morning help needed thanks

We're these only fitted to exclusive models and possibly those with the winter pack fitted?

I only ask as I'm sure my activa doesn't have them or if it does they aren't working so if worst came to the worst I was thinking of just getting the mirrors now they are about £5 each and I could just run wires to the HRW relay and earth them in the door...

Ahhhhhh I see... all I see on the wiring diagram is two bold coloured wires from the transmission ecu to engine ecu and only the two of them... I assume the bold wires are the comms wires around the car. The rest or just normal colour or non bold.

So now in possession of my 1999 exclsuive Hdi 110, here are the initial problems:

C5 S1 dash back light settings

hi all,
My C5 used to have 3 dash light settings, I think accessed by a press of right hand button in instrument pod, and also by pressing the half white/black button near the stereo.

setting :
1 # all dash lights on,
2 # just dials back-light
3 # just the speedo

3# is no longer accessible ?

C5 valve cover leaking

So, changed spark plugs on C5 1.8 petrol. Noticed threads at ends were a bit oily. Also noticed rocket/valve cover had slight leak at gasket point. Then I tried the bolts which didn't seem overly tight. I tightened them slightly - now realise that was a bit stupid. So, I'm guessing I need to get the car to a garage and the gasket replaced before...

As most c5 owners will know the c5 just eats tyres. I am wondering what I can do? I am considering going up a profile size to get a bigger tyre hopefully won't wear as quick? Any ideas?

both of us the same tyres, same car, both the same problem I think.. or similar.. certainly sidewall.. I too have never had blowouts in 20 plus years of driving, now 2 in a few months, on almost new tyres..
