I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hi
1994 wont be a transponder imobiliser, It might have a keypad fitted in front of the gearstick.
If it doesnt have this, Locking the car with the remote key is the only way of setting & unsetting the alarm / imobiliser.

Hi
Check the connector plugs under both the front seats.
Orange is for the seatbelt pretensioners, Ive no idea what colour the side airbag plug is?
Make sure you have the radio code & shut the alarm system down then disconnect the battery first & wait 10 minutes.
Unplug the connectors & clean them with WD40 or similar, make sure the metal...

Well the issue's neither here nor there any more, as I looked at three 306 HDIs yesterday and stuck down a deposit on one
The only differences that I could see between the GLXs and the Meridian that I looked at were
Meridian had half-leather interior GLX had electric windows in the back and front, Meridian only the front That's about it, really....

What is the smell like? Is it a mouldy damp smell or a chemichal antifreeze smell?
If it's smelling a little damp and you have air conditioning then it is caused by bacteria (mould) growing in the ducts and there are treatments available for it.
If it smells of antifreeze then your heater matrix has gone, check for damp carpets in the footwell....

If it's a diesel then there is a one way valve on the servo unit. If this valve breaks it allows no vacume for the servo to be kept in the servo unit. If petrol it again sounds like a servo problem as you say you have brakes when it's disconnected.

With the engine off the brakes feel OK.
With the engine on the pedal hits the floor real easy without braking the car.
Neither brake circuit works.
If I pull servo hose off the vacuum pump to disable the servo then the car does brake under foot pressure alone. Obviously not very quickly.

The plugs under your front seats are the following.
Orange = Seatbelt pretensioners
Yellow = Electric seat motors
Brown = Heated seats
You cant get a 405 with seatbelt pretensioners & electric movement seats, You can get the front seats out of an STI & swop the frames & base over & attach the pretensioner bracket, Ive done this, Its a right sod...

The mechanics of advancing the timing are as simple as you describe, but I would very strongly advise you to do the job properly which means using a DTI. Ad hoc bodges are not a good idea here - over advanced timing can be destructive.

Hi
You either have a broken wire between the drivers door & the A piller, A faulty lock motor, a dirty earth connection or a faulty locking control box.
Try unlocking with the key from the passenger door & see what happens.
The boot lock will just be stiff, spray some WD40 & work the key about in it.

The exhaust may be contributing to the power loss, but I have just found that the large feed pipe from turbo chager to intercooler was disconnected. Reconnectd, jubilee clip tightened - jobs a gud'un.
Taken her out for a spin - no comparison, great acceleration. I will sort the exhaust leak out at weekend and maybe get a bit better...

Now, the replacement supplied to me is too small (ie it isn't deep enough to house the innards of my current remote control) but the seller assures me it's a Mark 1 plip.

I too had the same Aircon problems you are describing - there is indeed a pressure switch on the system that cuts out the compressor when the pressure is to low.
There is a thread on this forum somewhere started by me that has the method for temprarily bypassing the switch to make sure the compressor still works - do a search!

Hi
To get the ignition barrel out, you insert the key, turn the lock & press the small metal clip down in the lock housing & the barrel then slides out.
You cant have 2 plips with different codes working the same car, Its one code only im afraid.
To programme a plip on a 405. Doors shut & unlocked, Ignition on, Aim the plip at the infra red pick...

Looking at the Haynes comic - it seems to show that the Window Switch drives the window motor direct (although in many cases I have found that a relay actually exists although mysteriously absent from the wiring diagrams)... If this is correct, I should just be able to plug in the new unit and it'll work??

Forget about removing the bulb. You won't fool the MOT bloke by doing that. Your trouble could be one of the wheel sensors. Use the search feature on the top right. Type in ABS warning light stays on Xantia . It should lead you to a topic posted in 2002. Alan Smith's reply refers you to David Woollard's site which may give you a lead.

Yes there are two needle roller bearings in them and they can be replaced, the job is a bit awkward if you do the inner one aswell as it has to be pulled out with a slide hammer.
The inner bearing usually survives though, the bad news is that they only fail due to water getting in and the rollers of the outer bearing can be almost totally consumed...

I followed the advice elsewhere on the pug forum and changed the water temperature thermistor......hey presto I have a normal car again!!!

I want to put the td flywheel back on and use a td clutch as its bigger, I know one clutch is push and one is pull. Is this just the way the cable pulls? IE will the thrust bearing still be pressed toward the clutch when pedal is pressed and will the td thrust bearing fit...

I have a 2000 V plate 306 hdi estate that is starting to make a whining noise at as I drive. Basically as I progresivly increase speed the whining noise gets faster and faster. I have depressed the clutch to see if it could be the engine, its not.

i heard from someone that you can run a diesel on just about anything. so i was wondering, whats the difference between the sort of oil used in home central heating, and diesel, basically ive got a load and i want to know if i can run my car off of it.

If the keypad has a D/N button the answer is no
If the keypad had a S button then yes

If they are vented discs on a mark 1 TD, then they are most likely ATE TEVES. I believe they are the only one for use with vented discs.

The time has just about come for me to change the front discs and pads on my 306, but I'm not sure quite which brake setup I've got. The pictures in Haynes helped me identify my rear drums as the Girling setup, but for the front it just tells you about the various types of callipers and how to jiggle them about.

Low water level light. Can't remember if it's rad or screen washer. But it's probably the rad. If the level is OK it's usualy the sensor wires in the expanssion tank. Do a site search and there shold be some stuff for the repaire or cleaning of the sensor.

I wonder if anyone could shed any light on this little conundrum! My sister has just rung with a problem of an orange light coming on her dash when she was driving home tonight. It appears to look like a bottle with two white lines going into the top. This applies to a Peugeot 405 1.9T.D. L or M reg.n (I can't quite remember which!)

Hello,
My MOT is coming up and I have a fairly large crack in my 306 XTDT's headlamp lens.
Is it possible to just change the lens or does the whole unit have to be replaced?
Also if I do this myself how do I check alignment afterwards?

Hi all, please pardon the stupid question. I'm currently trying to buy a front indicator unit from GFS for a friend's Pug 306. The GFS online store site lists two different parts - the standard 306 model ( > 97), at £6.50, and another one that's listed just the same way, but with the extra abbreviation (BQ), for £9.50.

Why has it got this foam in side of the wheel arch? Never heard of any rust prohibitor like that before. I have owned several MG Bs and Roadsters over the years and never come across this befor. Could it be some form of an attempt to sound deaden?

Prepairing to waxoyl the old 504 today, I removed the plastic bung from the front wheel arch that leads in to the seal. It is full of foam, but not the hard stuff you get on those bodge-it type spray cans. Its soft squashy stuff, so I am not sure how far along the seal it goes, or wether the waxoyl will react to it? anybody know?

gsf dont list a 406 bottom hose, looks like its the dealer for you unless you can get a decent secont hand one.

any one know where I can get a bottom radiator hose for my 406 td . the old one has got corrosion in the metal and dealer parts tend to be a bit expensive ...I was quoted about £60 to replace it as it cant be fixed.many thanks

Well, the first good news is that the shims are pretty easy to tackle, and you dont even have to take the head off. Im assuming (more fool me) that its a front mounted intercooler, with and Inlet manifold that curls over the rocker cover. If so you'll need to get this off, and its the hardest part of the whoel thing! Then take the rocker cover...

Where did you get this new keypad from?
The imobiliser 4 digit code is stored in both the keypad & the ecu, If you plug a different keypad or ecu petrol / Stop control relay on diesels into the car the imobiliser will have a sulk & both lights should come on.
Its a trip to a Peugeot dealer or somebody else will the right equipment to get this...

That should be all you need. The stereo's metal tray slides through the plastic trim (converting slanty to flat) and the metal tabs fold out with the aid of a screwdriver to hold both in place. Then the stereo slides in.

I have not had this on my 205xs, but it sounds like the brake servo. You could try and get another from a scrapper to see. Should be quite straightforward to replace.

My 1999 406 with an EW10J4 engine seems to be shaking/ rattling a wee bit more than usual...its at 40,000km now
just changed the oil but didn't change the plugs as it seems to be still okay according to my mech...
