405 TD Estate fumes

Unread post by demag »

Hello All,
Thanks for anticipated help!
I have just bought a 96 "N" 405 TD Estate with aircon 104000 mls.
Very clean one owner. Today I got a bit headachey and opened the window a bit to get some air. Later when I got back in the car it smelt very exhausty inside.
Any ideas where the fumes might be getting in?
I thought maybe the tailgate, but maybe someone has had a similar problem.
Thanks,
Dave. [xx(]

Check all the joints in the exhaust system. Start with the manifold to down pipe joint.

Make sure the tailgate seals properly. Perhaps they have been damaged, or it is not closing properly.
If you have ever driven with the tailgate open slightly (due to a large load) you will know that exhaust gasses are drawn in to the cabin.

Thanks, lads, the exhaust does seem ok but the tailgate is a bit strange the way it shuts so I'll check it out at the weekend
