injectors

Post by bad driver »

Hi, I have menaged to foolishly snap a bleed nipple thing on one of the injectors on my 306td, anyway truth is I cannot afford to replace the injector but what I do have is 4 spare injectors off a 306 diesel. I know the pressures are different on the 2 injectors but what I want to find out is if it is the bottom section of the injector that is different? I basically want to swap the top half of the injector over so that the bottom half remains the same spry pattern / flow rate etc and the top half still has the bleed nipple bit. Just want opinions on safety of doing this

Should be no problem with injectors from like manufacturers, but they have to be set up by shimming the needle return spring to attain the correct opening pressure, if you simply do the swap you probably wont get it anywhere near and neither will you know until you run the engine, if the injector doesn't open at the same pressure as the other three you will end up with an erattic and uneven idle at best, that is because the opening pressure determins how soon or late the injector opens in the cycle thus affecting timing.
Then again you probably have nothing to loose by trying, the injector is very likely to leak though unless you fit new sealing washers, which specialist may be reluctant to supply.
You should still have one leakoff nipple on the affected injector, so simply plug the broken one off and swap it with the number one injector (flywheel end) which will have two nipples, one of which will have a blanking cap on it so just take the cap off and connect the leakoff pipe as normal.
