I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hi
Turn the ignition on & enter the old 4 digit code.
Press button C
Enter a different 4 digit code then press C again.
4 beeps & 4 flashes from the Green led means the code is now changed.
A early GLX 406 also has total closure, Open all the electric windows, deadlock the car with the remote, Big button first & then within 3 seconds small...

Hi, just picked up a very tidy 406 2.0 GLX and have noticed that the revs at idle speed fluctuate between 1100 and about 900 rpm, is this normal. The car has ABS A/C and rest of toys but even when the electrics and air con are off, the revs still jump around.

It could be clutch pedal itself that is jamming, the cable could be fraying inside the shroud casuing it or the clutch arm is catching. Failing that then it could be clutch assembly problems (mainly thrust bearing).

Diagnostic connector is behind the panel underneath the steering wheel. Its the 16 pin EOBD type. You would need a diagnostic reader like sykes pickavant ACR, I sometimes have these for sale, take a look at my site forum, I'll advertise them there.

Im not sure of them, but I know they are a lot shorter than the diesel box. Top gear comes out at something like 21mph per 1000rpm, whereas the TD is 25.4mph per 1000rpm.
(eg if ur doing 70mph with the TD box, your engine is doing 2750rpm, but with the 6 speed box your doing 3300 rpm)

For what purpose? Is the old one faulty (very unlikely) or have you been tuning?
If it's the latter, don't spend loads on a stupidly overpriced FSE regulator. Get a Ford CVH injection one from a scrappy as they're all adjustable. Even a new ford one is less than 30 quid.

You try the ignition live to the stereo. Just scotch bloc to it. Or better still straight off the ignition swith. Drop of the steering cowl and use the position that starts the radio up. Think it's number two or three but don't quote me. Again just scotch bloc off it.

Its most probably the rubber axle mountings; these hold the rear axle to the car. Not to expensive (Its usually the front 'steer' type ones that cause the banging when they fail) but sometimes awkward to fit.

The STOP light is gonna be a faulty conection or sensor somewhere, Could also be a faluty earth connection.
The imobiliser problem will be the transponder aerial around the ignition barrel, They start to fail as the car gets older.
Peugeot modified this part around the middle of Oct 1998 because of this very problem.

well i'd say you've ruled out everything except the wiring,are you checking the feed at the pump with a multimeter ? even though its showing you have 12v at the plug there may not be enough current (ie possible corrosion in a connector or the wiring),check the feed at the pump again this time using a test lamp with a proper bulb in it,not the LED...

Sounds like the dealer has a couple spare ECUs he wants to shift! ECUs tend to work or not.
Much more likely to be a sensor giving out of band readings that are confusing the ECU. Get the codes read from the ECU, and let that be your guide.

ive just bought a 306 and ive done something with the immobiliser and it wont let me start the car!! when i turn the key the red light is on when i enter my code the green light comes on and they both stay on? i entered my code twice trying to change it to something i would remember but this has happened!!

bad starting as you describe could be caused by one or more glow plugs not working. (does it do it starting from hot?)
Your fuel economy could only be that bad if you had some sort of leak I'm sure... that's what, about 14mpg??

It wouldn't turn over at all if the cambelt had snapped. The pistons would find the valves. Sounds like it has blown a head gasket. It could be a number of things though. Crack in block or head comes to mind. The 205 turbo is a fine car. Worth fixing I would say.

It has just started losing water, approx 2 litres in 35 miles.
I cannot trace where it is losing the water as no visible signs of leak and had new rad about 6 months ago.

205 Wheelbrace - what the hell is this?

You've been given the wrong tool. What you should have is a short wheel wrench with a curved 'T' piece welded on the end. The idea is that the 'T' sits in the rounded groove. Altogether, it's a rotten piece of kit, so what I've done on my Xantia is to remove the wheel holder screw and weld a wheel nut on to the top of the groove. Now I can quickly...

Yes it is possible to set the RF remotes to unlock the keypad for one minute.
Try this first because someone might have already programed the remote keys into the keypads memory.
Turn the ignition on, Enter the 4 digit code, Press C 1 C
Turn the ignition off, Get out the car, Lock it with the remote & then Unlock it again & see if the keypads...

whats a speedo interface box ?? my guess would be the (hall effect) road speed sensor in the gearbox,the proper way to check the road speed sensor is with an ociliscope,you should get good square wave pattern with a frequency that increases the faster you turn it.

The problem is that the speedo only works occasionally, twitching for around the first 10 minutes and then usually it starts to work normally.
Sometimes i can make it work by accelerating hard up to around 60 which seems to make it work.

On my 1983 405, a ball and socket joint in the front wiper linkage has fallen apart. This connected the short radial arm on the bottom of the passenger side wiper with the horizontal rod which moves it.

Kev, I suspect you are thinking of the rainsensor system. The area behind your mirror detects rain drops and sweeps the wipers according to how dense the raindrops are. Try spraying the area with a little water when you think the system should be operating, ie with the light on. Uncertain here but I think you have to leave the wipers on...

ok, does any one know what the difference is, if any, between the different types. do any of them improve performance, or economy? or is it just a big con, whats the best one to use, i normaly just get the cheap stuff from tesco, but they do one which contains biodiesel.

Well I dont know much about the engine but its used in quite a few peugeots and citroens so I doubt its any less reliable than the 2 litre and will certainly be a lot more fun at the expense of more trips to the petrol station.
There are 2 versions of it though, the first ones were only 197bhp and the later ones 210, not sure if this coincided...

I'm currently playing with the idea of a 406 coupe and wondering whether to look for a V6 or 2.0. I prefer the idea of the V6 and am probably more concerned with what happens if it goes wrong more than the fuel economy issue.

Wheel bearing, it can be either side so don't attach much importants to the direction the car is going when the noise stops, you need to rotate the wheels by hand and see if you can feel play or roughness.

Remember, Yours being a 1994 car, you have the cable driven speedo!
Peugeot changed over to an electronic driven speedo on the 306 in mid 1996.

Any of the 1.9 TD Peugeot or Citroen engines will do, find out where the intercooler goes on the turbo version of the Expert, if its a production option that is.
You don't say what year it is, that can narrow your options a bit.
HDI will be too much grieff due to the electrickery.

I have a Peugeot 306 xtdt, 1994 with 100k on the clock.
The car has a bad knocking noise coming from the front, apparent when going over bumps in the road. It also knocks when coming to a standstill from slow speeds, most noticeable when edging forward in traffic.
I've replaced the track rod ends and there is no play in any of the wishbone...

Ok, asked about paint, but its crossed my mind about balancing the wheels. The 504 wheels don't have a centre hub hole like modern pugs. They have a small square hole, in which the hub cab screws on to. How does the tyre fitter slide these wheels on to the balancing machine?

Wurth do a standard silver paint which matches the paint used on alloys by most manufacturers, which is excellent if pricy. In my experience, Holts silver/aluminium is a close enough match to be un noticeable.

temporarily removing fan belt, will only eliminate alternator/power steering pump causes.
Other possible causes are timing belt tensioner pulley or as you say water pump. Change both if you are going to get the belt off again.

I've got a 1993 205 diesel with 82000 miles on it, and it's started to knock while driving. I've had new cv joints(Drive shafts) put on both sides but the knocking is still there. The reason the revs rise when you let it roll down the hill in neutral is because the road speed sensor is sensing the cars moving.
The sensors job is to make the gearchange easier, Nothing to worry about, its ment to do that.
No idea on the dodgy idle problem though?
