405 electric aerial mast?

Post by dvhttn »

Hi,
Picking up a 1993 405 (pre-minor facelift model) today which has a duff electric aerial mast. Peugeot say they have discontinued parts for this. So, can you get the masts anywhere else (other than a breakers!) and can the mast actually be changed on its own? (Also without a manual as yet ...).
This is a saloon if it makes a difference - are the aerials from other Peugeots the same?
Thanks in advance

Thanks. You mean:
89250 ELECTRIC AERIAL-CHROME General Use Ex. G3 24.50 ??
I spoke to GSf on the phone and they said they didn't do them ....
Is the above a DIRECT replacement for the standard item?
I've seen on Ebay this:
"..Replacement mast for Hirschmann Electric aerial 6000 EL series fitted to Peugeot 405 saloon (not estate) and Peugeot 306 cabriolet. Five section with drive cable, extended length 77 cm, Hirschmann part number 821995101"
Will this mast fit a standard aerial?
Thanks in advance ....

Ive no idea if 821995101art number 821995101 will fit a standard aerial on a 405.
So GSF list part number 89250 ELECTRIC AERIAL-CHROME General Use for the 405 & then turn around & sat they dont do them, Well thats what Ive come to expect from GSF, EVERY time I ring them for a part for my 405 they turn around & say " We dont list that part " They are so USELESS I dont even bother with them now!

Hi,
Was in GSF this morning getting an air filter. Asked them about the aerial as I took a printout of the web page with me. The woman said that they fit most Golfs (but not Mk 3 or something!) but that they get a lot back as they don't fit. They don't have a list of the cars they do fit either for some reason ...........
Looks like the scrappy will be getting a visit ....
Cheers

The automatic arial went on my 405 the other day and had a bit of trouble finding a replacement. In the end it wasn't worth buying another auto so got a real cheap, short flexi one from the local factors. It looks fine and performs much better than the original (not that i know anything about radio but i was told shorter ariels were better for recieving FM whereas the longer ones are better for MW, LW and AM, i have no idea if this is true). I'm not 100% sure but I would imagine that any universal will fit the 405 as there is acres of space for it to go and the hole is standard (a scierra electric ariel will fit, i put it in but couldn't be bothered to cut off the different wiring blocks and solder it in permanently)
Hope this helps

And Halfrauds it was. About £15 for a black flexi aerial and adaptor cable. But arrggghhh ...................... still no damn FM reception! Took the radio out (Clarion) and checked but all was connected at the back. Except that it seemed to have two aerial connectors - a red one and black one ...
Any clues before I test the radio and the wiring? (No time until after the weekend).
Cheers

Yeah my 405 Clarion has those 2 connections as well.
The facelifted 405s have a roof aerial.
FM reception has never been a Clarion or 405 strong point!

Hmmm. So I pulled the radio from my 205 (replaced by the 405 but not sold yet - anyone want a 150K 305 diesel?) and plugged it in (ISP adaptor cable is the same on both cars ...). I can now get FM AND all speakers work whereas with the Clarion only 3 worked.
So, duff radio. But it gets better. I plugged it back in to at least have some sound and it now doesn't work at all!!!! Checked it in the 205 just to make sure ...
Oh well, plan b .....

Just noticed this thread I started but didn't finish ..... Seems like the old Clarion radio had had it. Replaced with a Sony. And got an electric aerial from Maplins for about £20. Had to mes about with the wiring to get it to connect up but all is now rosy ... Hands free, radio muting phone car kit tomorrow .... :-)
Cheers
