Winding down 406!
Just a quicky, when i've been out in my 406 glx 2.0 petrol, and turn off engine, I can hear quite a loud 'winding down' sound, similar to a jet engine, is this normal and what is it?

The GLX will have the full climate control system, ( The one that turns itself on & off & annoys the hell out of you! ) Have someone stick there head next to the grill & switch off the engine, They will hear if its the cooling fans winding down.
Also if the cooling fans are running all the time the ignitions on it could be a faulty temp sensor & the Bitron box might have switched to safety mode to protect the engine from overheating.

Nope not the fans running, or switching off, they seem to work as they should when engine gets hot, if I rev engine above say 3000 RPM and turn engine off the noise comes from the lower half of the rear of engine, as far as I can see, there are no fans around the bottom rear of engine, but view is restricted by some sort of engine protector plate covering the whole bottom of engine!

Yeah noise is there if I have engine on but dont drive car, dont put in gear, BUT only does it when I rev the car and turn engine off. If i drive the car its for definate that i'll hear the noise when I turn off, if I turn engine on and DONT rev engine and turn off, I dont hear the noise - does this make sense?
i dont know for sure about the 406 but it could be a webasto heater cooling down, they are fitted to lots of cars in cold countries, but some higher spec UK model citroen xantias (witch is similar to the 406) have these fitted, see this topic > http://www.andyspares.com/discussionfor ... ms=webasto
i didnt even notice that it was a petrol[:I],anyway like i said i dont really know the 406 well. some citroen electric vehicles do have a webasto type heater that runs off petrol as this is the only way to generate heat for the interior heaters but apart from that ive never heard of a petrol car with one in this country.
