workshop/parts CDs on ebay

Unread post by Wookey »

I see lots of ads on ebay for CDs covering an electronic parts catalogue
e.g.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true
or interactive repair manual:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 18166&rd=1
Has anyone tried these? And does anyone know if either will work usefully on non-windows machines (I run GNU/Linux).
i.e. are they essentially html or PDF based for use with any browser/viewer, or are they windows apps with all the data wrapped up in an application?
I presume the parts CDs contain the same info as is found at http://www.elcats.ru/peugeot/?

The one I have is a load of html / gif / jpg files, with an exe front end.
As long as you find an index html type file, then you're away.
I found it quite useful when planning a job, because you get to know where things are routed / bolted - quite handy when you're working behind the engine ( for example ) by feel.

The workshop manuals are simply html / gif / jpg and so will work fine under Linux.
The parts database uses a special Windows application, and so that won't be so easy.
