Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Removal of plastic timing belt cover

by kg7657 » 27 Feb 2006, 12:06

Hi All,
Just a very quick and simple question - hope someone could kindly answer this please. I would like to check the condition of the timing belt on my 406 coupe fitted with a 2 litre 16 valve engine - series 1 1998 year. The upper timing belt cover is plastic and held on by one clip at the top and two 10mm nuts. I have removed the clip and two...

Thanks Horse,

The two nuts I removed were from the front of the cover - one higher than the other. I tried to feel for any nuts/bolts around the top and rear of the cover but could not find any - any clues where one could be? Cheers

Alternator help needed

by xdavex70 » 14 Feb 2006, 16:49

First post

Out of the blue today, the battery charge light on my 2001 306 HDI came on.

I have just checked the voltage across the battery, and got the following readings

Engine off 12.9v
at idle 14.9v
at approx 2000 revs 15.2v
at idle with lights, heater and stereo on 14.8v

From the readings, it would appear to me that the alternator is doing its job, but...

Last post

I wasn't too concerned about the low load charging voltage because many (cheap?) digital multimeters are prone to giving wrong readings when there is a high ripple content in the voltage being measured. As the alternator is loaded, the peaks of the ripple decrease and the apparent DC value falls.

Valeo regulators are set too high anyway, giving...

Last post

Surely this is a completely pointless modification. The 5-speed BE3 box on a 2.1TD has ratios matched to the torque curve of the engine. Fitting a different box is almost guaranteed to mean bad matching of ratios to the engine.

As far as I know, it's possible to do a pre-facelift model without removing the dash. There's various bits of glovebox you have to remove. You should get new O-rings with the replacement matrix. The only things you will have to damage are various rivets that hold the dash together. You'll need a rivet gun and some peel rivets. Or some self-tapping...

Flat Battery

by OwenP » 30 Jan 2006, 09:42

Hi All,

Went out to start my 405 in the sub zero termps we've got (-4) this morning. Everything lit up as normal, but on trying to turn the engine over (have you guessed yet?) only got a couple of very laboured clunks before the alarm went off.

Flat battery. Battery is fairly new as is the alternator (within the last 6 months ish), but the car...

306 Rear Lights

by deere3350 » 30 Jan 2006, 07:20

Hi all,

The rear lights on my 306TD are currently giving me a bit of grief. If the indicators are used when the lights are on, the lights go dim. I understand this is caused by a bad earth - can anyone advise how to sort?

Thanks in advance.

the odo shows: 100km
but actual running: 80-90km
what's the problem please?

Speedos always indicate a bit high, usually 5 to 8 km/h, to keep us well inside the speed limits.
In some countries, it's a legal requirement, and the makers are very happy to oblige.

in this case, does it mean the milemeter odo(LCD) is always changing earlier than actual distance?

306 Rear Lights Problem

by deere3350 » 29 Jan 2006, 16:55

Hi all,

The rear lights on my 306td are currently giving me a bit of grief. Everytime the indicators are used and the lights are on, they go dim in time with the indicators. I understand this is caused by a bad earth, but don't know where to look. I can't get my head round the Haynes wiring diagram, either.

Anyone have any ideas where I should...

Spark Plug Differences

by Pheonix » 29 Jan 2006, 16:38

Hi All,

Am wondering if there is any point to these premium spark plugs the manufacturers keep banging on about?

For instance, one ebay seller is selling these:

But are they actually any different from these:

In terms of what they achieve...considering we arn't talking performance motoring here, only general driving of a 1.0 106 :D

Was...

106 Fuel Pump Problem

by Pheonix » 24 Jan 2006, 00:01

First post

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with my '95 106 1.0XN, Single Point Injection.

Basically, the fuel pump keeps cutting out. I've got the covers up, and tried a multimeter on the pump connector, and it would appear that it is the electrical supply to the pump.

Does anyone know what relay (if any) controls the pump circuit, or where it plugs in?...

Last post

ok. you can fault read ecu by earthing pin in diagnostic connector and light will flash a fault code. i think (long time since i have done one) earth pin for 3 seconds light will then flash once then pause then flash twice this gives 1 + 2 which is 12 start of sequence then earth again for another 3 sec then will flash another code.if it flashes...

306 HDi 90 Clutch change

by RichardW » 23 Jan 2006, 08:53

First post

I'm going to help my mate change the clutch in his 306 HDi 90 in a few weeks. Anybody done it and got any handy hints? I think it uses a standard push clutch rather than the TD's pull type, and maybe a hydraulic actuator? Also going to get the front wheelbearings changed at the same time, but we'll be taking the hubs to someone with a press to...

A solid flywheel, the 306 never got the dual mass flywheels.

106 Accelerator Cable Tightness

Just wondering how tight this cable should be. Its quite slack relatively speaking on my car at the moment - should it just be adjusted for feel, or is there a reason for keeping it taught?

I can't get glow plug out.

by Reggie » 14 Nov 2005, 21:49

First post

I am unable to remove one of my glow plugs. I don't know if this is because the 12mm head was slightly damaged in an earlier attempt to get it out, or if it is because it is well and truly stuck. The 12mm head is now completely rounded, and I cannot get it out with a pair of mole grips clamped on tight, as they just turn, and there is not enough...

Last post

I'd just like to say it IS possible to break a stubborn glow-plug, I did it a few weeks ago on my 106.

306 window washer jets

by Linchpin » 18 Nov 2005, 15:13

First post

Hey guys, im sure i read someone on here recommended fitting Xantia jets as my 306 ones are blocked / mangled.

Any ideas? I quite like the ones that haze the screen rather than 2 jets of water. If anyone has a pair they would like to sell on, please let me know.

Cheers

Kev

The Xsara jets fit both the Xsara and the Peugeot 306 with no modifications required..

The Peugeot 407 mists jets do NOT fit the ZX. The input on the existing ZX jets is horizontal from the opp end to the jet exit. The input on the 407 jet is at 45degrees in a upward directing horizontaly, at right angles to the direction in which the water...

:( I have had trouble with my daughter's T reg 206 1.4 for about 2 years now and am running out of ideas.
Every now and then, mainly when warmed up, the engine splutters and sometimes cuts out. It will normally restart but not always straight away.
Sometimes the revs go high without reason.
History:- I have replaced the crank sensor, MAP...

To all those that have helped,

Thanks one and all. The coil has been changed (Peugeot part £117 trade), the plugs have been changed and the little monster is now behaving itself. As a matter of intrest, we noticed a few sparks from the coil pack in the dark. Must have been an insulation break down. Remember the old days when distributors used to...

306 Headlights

Have you checked the price on the on-line shop for GSF? they do sell head lamp units.

Last post

Alas it's not that easy. Later headlights are more curved and won't fit your wings or bonnet and I believe the mounts are in difference places so you'd need a new front panel. All in all it's not worth it; stick with the originals as they already look great, especially if you've got front fogs. A very stylish nose, IMO 8)
