Heavy Clutch

Post by Pdriver »

Hi,

I have just bought a 1996, Pug 405 1.9td showing 123k on the clock, the trouble is the clutch pedal is really heavy, my old 306D was quite heavy but I can hardly press this one down, in fact my wife can’t drive the car at all. Is the problem likely to be the clutch or the cable, or maybe both? Would it be worth trying a new cable before fitting a new clutch kit, thanks in advance.

you may find that a new cable makes pedal feel smoother but i think the clutch cover will be the cause of your heavy pedal.also the clutch operating arm in the gearbox tends to sieze up in its bushes, clean up and grease will improve that..
EP6T petrol turbo nice engine in the 207 GT and the new mini....

thanks for the reply pugxpert, I also need to do the cambelt and it has an oil leak near the top end, do you think it would be easier to lift the engine and gearbox out to do the work.

if you need to do both a cambelt and a clutch, pull the whole thing out. MUCH easier.
