Troublesome 206 1.4 T reg.

Unread post by rtownsend »

:( I have had trouble with my daughter's T reg 206 1.4 for about 2 years now and am running out of ideas.
Every now and then, mainly when warmed up, the engine splutters and sometimes cuts out. It will normally restart but not always straight away.
Sometimes the revs go high without reason.
History:- I have replaced the crank sensor, MAP sensor, water temp sensor and cleaned as many connector contacts that I can get to. Also somebody told me that the MAP sensor connector goes sloppy so that has been seen to.
When ever a diagnostic has been done, ie. RAC, no error code shows up.

Any ideas please.

Maybe the RAC cannot diagnose all faults? I had my 306 checked by a non-peugeot dealer for error codes, found nothing, but on a proper Diag2000 machine identified the cause of my idle problem - Stepper Motor.

Not sure, but maybe this may help :)

Thanks for that. I suspect that any hand held tester will only show a code it the fault is actually happening at that moment.
Is the proper Diag2000 machine a Peugeot thing (expensive) or do other garages/tuners use such a beast? I told my daughter that it might mean a full cost job at the main dealers.

Diag2000 is the official peugeot testing machine, however i suspect your newer car uses a different machine (someone clarify this?) I found a garage that purchased a Diag2000 machine from an old peugeot dealership so paid less :)

Sounds like a faulty coil pack.

Is the car still on the original AWFUL Sagem coil pack?

Stick the new Electrofill coil pack on & a set of Peugeot or Bosch sparkplugs

Also while the tools are out remove the idle control valve / stepper motor & give the plunger & air bypass hole a good cleanout.

Has a Peugeot dealer downloaded the latest ECU software to the car?

I would agree with powerlee, go for a coil pack or a download

I would go for both

Get the latest Electrofill coil pack & get the latest software download from a Peugeot main dealer.

Also fit ONLY Peugeot or Bosch spark plugs to this car!

Thanks for the advice Powerlee. I will change the spark plugs for Bosch and clean the other bits. The coil pack was my next port of call. Is this Electrofill a Peugeot only part or do others like Andyspares (French/German/Swedish) supply? I will also look into the software download.

I would think any supplier for French cars should be able to supply you with an Electrofill coil pack.

Just ask what make of coil pack they supply & if they say Sagem tell them to get lost.

Check out how much a Peugeot dealer will supply one for though, You might get a surprise.

Also look on Ebay, New Electrofill ones can be bought on there too.

I would DEFINITELY get the latest software download from a Peugeot main dealer

To all those that have helped,

Thanks one and all. The coil has been changed (Peugeot part £117 trade), the plugs have been changed and the little monster is now behaving itself. As a matter of intrest, we noticed a few sparks from the coil pack in the dark. Must have been an insulation break down. Remember the old days when distributors used to do that?.

Anyway, hopefully the case is closed and the daughter is happy again. If she is happy then so am I.

Thanks again.
