Peugeot 307 Electrics....ARGH!
I was driving down the M6 after being stuck in heavy, slow moving traffic, when I noticed that the dashboard was playing up. The needles started to go up and down, the illumination lights went on and off, the cd player/multichanger started to skip tracks and switched between radio and cd. Also when something occured, the milometer flashed and came back with an extra 20mls on it!! I decided to stop at a service station after around 20 mins and had something to eat. On my return to the car, 30 mins later, the car was fine, no problems. It went fine for the remainder of the journey, 100 miles. On my return journey, after around 100 miles, I decided to change the cd, from cd 3 to cd 4 via the steering wheel switch, when I heard a wierd noise and the cd didnt change. It froze. It wouldnt do anything. 1,2,3,4 & 5 were flashing on the unit. Nothing else happened (no funny dash lights). It wouldnt work for the rest of the journey. The next morning, at home, went to the car - and the cd multichanger was working!! Nothing was wrong, did another journey of 50 miles - no problem. On reflection, I did have my mobile phone charger plugged in on the way down. But I THINK things only started to go wrong when I unplugged it - Im not certain. Also just before things started to go wrong, I had changed the brightness of the illumination (for it to be brighter). But I still dont see how the cd multi would pack in on my return journey (then start working the next morn). Is this something to do with heat? The temp gage was fine, but the car had been sitting in traffic? I have no idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

A 307 is multiplexed, All the electrics are digital & interconnected.
When was the last time this car was seen by a Peugeot main dealer? Other then the safety re-calls?
A visit to a Peugeot main dealer taking with you all the keys to the car & the blue security code card + the car would be a good idea.
It either needs a software update or a session on the diagnostic machine or more likely both
You mention the millage reading was going up? Peugeot fixed that fault with a BSI software update a while ago.
A faulty Sagem coil pack on a petrol engine could also cause problems like this
I would say it wants the latest BSI & ECU downloads.

Thanks for info. Would a coil pack not cause uneven running? The car was running fine. The car was last at the dealer this time last year. No other faults have occured in the last 20000 miles. Car has now done 56000 miles. Hmmm I dont fancy going to the dealer and explaining everything that happened!! Car is 2001 and out of warranty....
What I dont understand is that its fine now!! For the last 150 miles.

If its got the original Sagem coil pack on it then you are asking for trouble.
A 2001 car with a Sagem coil pack on is amazing, They dont normally last that long.
The coil pack insulation breaks down inside & the electrical energy needed to create the spark to fire the spark plug then takes the path of least resistance to earth.
What happens is the electrical wiring inside the engine bay now gets spiked by the faulty coil pack & because the car is multiplexed & everything is digitally connected the spike down the wiring loom makes the cars electric's go bananas.
Book it in & let it have a session on the diagnostic machine, They will find the fault in minutes & it will cost you less in the long run.
There will also be some BSI & ECU software downloads for your car you should let them install.
I would take the car to a Peugeot dealer asap, If it is the coil pack & you don't get it replaced you run the very high risk of ruining the engine ECU & they are very expensive to replace!
I had the coil pack replaced under warranty on my car about 6 months ago, Apparently there was an engine misfire logged in the ECU memory, I NEVER ever felt the engine had a misfire.
Dont worry about talking to the dealer, You wont be the first person to have this fault, They will have heard about these problems many times before

get your dealer to check for communication faults between ecu's there is a bsi download fix for loss of communication between units this does the things you described ,your cd problem i think is a seperate fault with your cd player ,also poor earths on 307 cause problems,i clean up all earths on everyone and fault does not come back...

ANOTHER UPDATE
Cleaned most of the earths that I could find.
The fault with the funny electircs hasnt happened since. Ruled out the autochanger. But I am still getting a shock/spark when I get out the drivers side by touching the door frame. I investigated further. Tried to get out slowly (not closing the door - just leaving it), I wasnt getting a spark. So did it quickly and I got a shock/spark. Decided to lower the back of the seat to a flat position, and when I got out quickly, touched the door, I got no spark (static). Put the back of the chair to a normal position. Got out of the car quickly, touched the door - I got a shock. Therefore it must be something to do with me rubbing the back of the chair as I am getting out quickly.
I must say that the shock is very strong - I could see the blue spark every time tonight in the dark. Could it be a sensor in the back of the chair? making some sort of a charge? It doesnt seem to happen on the passenger side. My father tried to replicate what I was doing, but he couldnt do it fast enough!! haha I am going to look at the chair further tomorrow. Any thoughts anybody?

there is no sensor in the seat only the air bag, seat is bolted to floor pan so any charge build up would earth through floor,i think this static is in no way related to your electrical problem.may be the static is down to what pants your wearing,go commando and see if it sorts out the static..
