Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

if the peugeot 306 gti6 and xsi share the same 2.0l 16v engines why is one 167 bhp and the other 135bhp

this applies for the phase two models!

the xsara vts also has 167 bhp and a 5 speed box

so where is the power increase located??

Hey guys, i took my car to my local garage last night, we took off the top engine mount and found.... a hole.

Apparently a common problem on the more powerfull 306's, we had to make a plate for the engine mount to screw into. I have taken photo's and will post them here later today.

I've done trials on veg oil in my Xantia. The fuel is preheated by the cooling system anyway so the veg oil went straight in the tank. At 100% veg the startup was a bit lumpy on cold mornings and sometimes I put the glowplugs on twice. Absolutely no problems, mileage down by 1 or 2 mpg.

Since running a couple of monthly trials I registered with...

I can be driving along and just put clutch in (say for example when you change gear) and the revs just stay the same (they won’t drop down to idle speed). So I can come up to a junction with my foot on the clutch and engine could be constant at 3 thousand revs and then after 30 seconds just decide to go down to normal?! When I start the car it...

Ok going on your other posts, (K-light on also), your ECU has a fault code stored in it, Id say its something idle-control valve related. Get it code read at a local testers. I think, that if your K light (engine diag lamp) is lit, your ECU may have gone into Limp mode so dont expect to be passing the emissions test on the MOT (i think).

i have a peugeot 306 sedan 1.8 petrol m reg (95). Just recently the miles per gallon has gone up. now i'm getting like 25 mpg?? I have an auto diagnostic light come up on the dashboard, could this be linked? Also this could be linked to it- when the car is cold it sometimes is a little sluggish for the first couple of miles (maybe choke sticking...

Cure this problem by freeing the rear brakes up:

I got the instrument panel out today to find out why my airbag lights weren't coming on with the ignition like they're supposed to. The answer? The previous owner had removed the lights because my 306 has Dreaded French Car Airbag Light Syndrome :cry:

I disconnected the battery and waited (watching the snooker) like a good boy :D and sprayed all...

Guys,

Anyone seen a super/turbo charged version of the 406 esp the year 99 onwards running on the EW10J4 engine??

The previous version of 406 running on the XU10J4 had a turbo version, PSA did not come around with another one after that...any particular reason?

We only have the 2litre version in Malaysia and hence, performance can be quite bad...

The very rare 405 T16 used the XU10J4TE engine, 1998cc 16 valve with a proper turbo, Around 200 to 210 bhp from the factory.

The 405 T16 is a very nice car ( shame its left hand drive only )

Hey guys, wonder if any of you 306'ers (or any other valeo-using car) people have ever seen this. I replace'd the motor on my 306's front wipers about 6 months ago.

All of a sudden, they develop a fault.

Which part of the 305 estate is the same as any other citroen, peugeot and talbot in terms of swapability as i need quite a few bits for the 305 and wondering if things like trailing arm bearings and wheel bearings are the same part number as other cars ?

Hello all,

I think this is a very common problem on these engines. They start to leak oil from the HG at the front right corner. Dribling down the block causing a mess and potentially bad for the cambelt.
I'm going to change the HG and am wondering whether you always have to skim the head, this car hasn't overheated causing the HG to go.

The time has come for me to finally find out why my airbag light doesn't come on with the ignition like it's supposed to. I'm hoping it's just going to be a blown bulb, so I need to get the IP out and have a butcher's :)

So does anyone know if the removal of the steering wheel, in particular the airbag, on a 2000 306 is wildly different to that...

For future reference, it's perfectly feasible to get the instrument panel out without removing the steering wheel or airbag.

If you do want to get the airbag off you will indeed need a T30 Torx screwdriver.

I need to replace both driveshafts on my 1999 306 1.4, I am having difficulty getting hold of the parts. My car has abs and gsf only sell non abs driveshafts for the 1.4 petrol, I have tried quite a few places but they are asking me how many teeth are on the abs wheel. Not really sure what they are on about, does anyone know where I can get...

In threory, there's only 2 options for the number of teeth, about 90, or about 20. The difference is instantly visible, as the teeth will either be just a couple of mm (like in the photo above) which is bendix, or will be big chunky 10mm ish lumps, which is bosch.

1994 Non-Tirbo Diesel 405 Estate GLX

Cold starting in the am takes a number of cranks and eventually fires with foot down. OK for rest of the day. The leak was in the engine bay area - was dripping off the box but for the life of me can't see/find the leak - seems to have stopped now :?

The starting problem started afetr the trip and the kleak was first spotted.

For a few days now the STOP lamp on my dash has been dim and flickery along with the oil pressure and high coolant temperature lights when the ignition is on but the engine not running. All lights go off normally when the engine is running.

Before I rip the dash apart to find the problem, does anyone have any ideas? It niggles me but not as much...

Could be a dodgy earth connection somewhere under the bonnet. Try them first. My visa (same dash layout) only shows the Stop light about half the time with the igntion on the 1st stage sigh, another winter job to solve that one!

I'm sure I have heard that some of these sensors are common to certain model Frauds.
Unfortunately, being over here, we may also get different models to you.
Might be worth taking one to a Ford dealer and asking if they can match it; it is only a bloody magnet after all!

Just had my 205GTi MOT'd. It passed but with an advisory that the fuel lines are corroded :o .

Indeed they are and I'm keen to replace them, the two metal lines from the tank back to the engine bay.

Any good suggestions as to where replacements may be sourced. Are they available from Pug or is it a case of making some up. If the latter, can...

You could use copper or cupo-nickel lines, as these would cope with injection pressure no problem. Just don't use semi-rigid plastic lines, as I doubt they would cope with injection pressure.

The only reason the originals are steel is for cheapness.

Small brake problem you guys may be able to help me with. Oh, and thanks to

I've recently replaced ALL 6 flexible hoses on my 405 1.8TD. It then failed
the MOT (in part) on rusty rear solid brake lines. As I don't have a pit or
ramp I got the local garage to replace them for me. They came back...

Hello, I have a pug 405 1.8 petrol 1993 and whilst doing an oil change managed to knock the breather pipe off which is situated next to the oil filter. When trying to push it back onto the large bulbous nipple, it split along its length and I ended up having to make a bodge with cable ties and an old inner tube from my push bike!! Where can I get...

I can't speak for the Peugeot one, but on our Cits the matrix doesn't have the ends permanently fitted like a radiator core, they are held into position and sealed using a series of O rings. We had one dumping big time on the floor and when we removed it, found this was where the leak was so simply replaced any obviously leaking O rings and sealed...

Saloon estate or van? Bad points. head gasget. cv joints if boots are neglected, rust on some models, rear trailing arm bearings on van & estate. (same bearing kit as Citroen BX)( Same bearing in saloon but didn't give the same trouble due to different strut position)

My 99 406,has a problem with the radio reception,whereas,one minute it's fine,the next it loses signal,and hisses.

We have a local radio station near us,and even outside the building,it won't pick up the signal!!!!

The aerial base and aerial were recently replaced with brand new items from Peugeot,but still it persists.

1st problem :

Today the flat part of the bleed valve on my 1600 phase 1 405 broke off as i tried to tighten it (cause it was leaking) :x so i drained the system took it off and replace it with a bolt until i can get a new one but when i tried to drain the system nothing came out of the aparant drain valve all that was in there was a rusty...

2.nd) if you floor an early carby engine its likely to overrichen the engine - thus a black cloud. But it could very well be a symptom on the carb in need of service.

OK. Just checked my friendly Pug parts CD. Rear sensor on a 405 is 4545-14. On a 406 it is 4545-49. Anyone know the difference? Would they swap? They look the same physically ...

I read on this forum few weeks back that not all Hdi engines have intank lift pumps. I believe the 2.0's do but does the 2.2 16v Hdi variant?

Does the front bumper on a 305 (estate) have mountings one either side to mount it onto the bodywork cause mine doesnt :? and was just wondering would it fail its MOT like this both sides are sturdy.

Another thing my 305 srd doesnt have a tachometer would i be able to fit one or is it a no go situation :?:

Hi y'all

Funny problem I have, half my clocks stopped working, the fuel gauge, rev counter and oil thingy no longer work,anyone had this problem before, anyone know if just these clocks have a seperate fuse?
Not long ago i took out the clocks to change a bulb and I thought that might have been the problem, so i took them out again and reconnected...

Had a similar problem with my 106 Rallye.
Took it to a local garage and they managed to get them off for a tenner.
There are tools that garages have to jam over the stud and then they gun them off with an air wrench.

Just thought I'd update you.

Those wheel remover sockets were a good idea, but the walls were too thick.

Went to the local garrage, and the guy came out with a selection of official peugeot sockets, and one fitted.

They had all be slightly modified, I won't say how, but he'd never failed yet !

This has been happening to Peugeot/Citroen cars for years and years, ever since this design of rear axle came along, poor sealing at the arm shaft allows water to get in, this causes the needle roller bearings to completely rust away, damaging the shaft in the process which then rubs against the inside of the axle tube, resulting in rear wheel...

Have you checked your oil since then ?, you might find that you now have none in the engine !
Its usually a sign that the seals in the turbo have blown and all the oil exits into the air intake and fuels the engine for a runaway, the engine should contain enough oil for about a 30 second run providing the main bearings and associated bits survive

flush the coolant then keep an eye on it. If oil reappears then you may have a problem, a bit of mayo in the 106 isnt uncommon, its just condenstaion inside the cap.

Hmm, i recognise that as a boost bypass valve for a Seat Leon, its called an N75, its also used on the audi, VW, and skoda 1.8 turbo petrol engines
Unless your car has a turbo, i cant see what use it would be, it has a small diameter always open bleed airway in it, and can be opened up fully by the solenoid attached to it or simply modulated to...

My old Cit diesel did this, the fuse that controls the light had failed, causing the glow plug relay not to work.
Try that first, think its a 20amp one.

The glow plug heater light on the dash fails to come on and the car refuses to start, is there a fuse or relay that could have failed? any other ideas to solve this problem (matches, petrol come to mind)

Is the igntion system in good health? Plugs, leads, igntion timing, dizzy cap & rotor arm?
Hows the air filter & air trunking looking? No air leaks & a nice clean filter?
Exhaust system ok? Is the car over or under fueling?
Also are we talking a 405 with the original carb on it?

I have a P 106 Equinox of year 1998 1124 cc. I can hear a knocking sound at the steering column and I've noticed that the universal coupling located at the end of the steering column is gone.
I've been told that I'll have to change the whole column. Is it not weird to change the whole thing when there is just a little thing...

There is no 605 Manual, however you can pluck little bits out of the Haynes XM manual, but not a lot.

Hi guys,
My sis drives a 307 hatch that uses the AL4 gearbox. After buying it we found out that if the gearbox is spoil they will have to replace it and it cost a bomb. I am sure that gearboxes are repairable and wondering if anyone has a website that i can visit and learn more about the gb.

On my 406 at 60mph+,there is a vibration coming from the car.
It works like this....
Vibrate for 3 seconds,then a 5 second gap,vibrate for 3 seconds,then a 5 second gap.....you get the picture?

is she locking them remotley or key in door?
Maybe she is pressing the wrong button on the plip or is putting key into her bag and the plip is being pressed again by something.
It must be 'unlocking' within 30 seconds of leaving car, after this the alarm would be fully set an would detect a current surge when the doors unlock, therefore triggering...

Check the hose running from water pump (rear of engine) to front - offside- there is a junction with a small length of vertical tube and a bleed screw. This often leaks. It's about £40 from Citroen: GSF may be cheaper? If it leaks it will drip where you state. Check expansion tank: they can split .. or one of the many rubber hoses can.

IIRC the first gear on an auto is slightly longer than that of the manual box so it will feel sluggish in comparison to the manual, yes on a 3.0 v6 it wont feel that way asthat has the power to get through the gear easily. The only thing you can do is look to bring the torque curve into the lower rev range.
