Right, said car is a 95 XSi 2.0l.
Gear shifs are nice and normal with the exception of when going manually between 3rd and Drive - the engine cuts for a good 2 seconds. Weird in the fact that the 'box is non electronic...
Starts in Park and Drive (Not Neutral) and the reverse lights dont work.
My question is; Does the 'box have ANY electronics that are able to send a pulse to the engine ECU AT ALL? MY thoughts are that something is out of adjustment making the car think it is infact going between NEUTRAL and DRIVE and is attempting to adjust the idle somehow.
Your thoughts and opinions please...

I'd guess the selector / inhibitor switch is acting up. I think its on the end of the selector cable ontop of the transmission on these.
I've never seen an automatic XSi, usually the only auto's of 95 vintage are in most cases 1.8 XT. Is this car UK spec ?

Most here were auto I think. Have found a switch on transmission, seems that its the reverse/start inhibitor.
Is there a selector switch too?

I think they are still the combi 4 pin unit screwed into the side of the box.citronut wrote:it should not start in gear at all so somthing is no functioning corectly,
and im not sure but think the revers switch is a seperate switch to the stater inhibiter,
regards malcolm
Have a look on the nearside wheelarch area, for a switch screwed into the box with four spade terminals or a similar plug fitted.
