head gasket? or airlock??

Post by the jester »

mmmm
ive put a 406 1.9td engine in a talbot express.

i got it runninf thanks to a few folks on here...Thankyou!!

now i drove it today for the first time, garagre and back ( about 2 miles) to fill it with diesel( bloody price of it  )

then an hour later took it for a drive, reasonably hill went for about 5 miles then .............

is it smok?
is it steam?
think( hope) its sream, get the fire extinguisher just in case.

its steam and lots of it, not a blown hose as i expected , but just a severly pressurised system?

i left it for about 20 minutes, but no inclination of starting again.

so im wondering

why?

is it an airlock ?

the fact it wont even try and start, im concerned theres water where there shouldnt be.... head gasket?

would an airlock, leading to overheat, blow te head gasket,

HELP :?:

It would still start unless it was really bad (cracked head) or hydraulic'ed (unlikely)

Does it turn over fine ? , if so does it sound 'normal' when turning ie not very fast or really really slow ?

Till turns over fine
No odd noises, except gurgling of water,

I have the battery on charge at the minute, so haven't been able to check threes power to the relay & solenoid, again I doubt water would effect those, but the glow plug relay is quite close to the expansion tank, which leaked,,,alot

Notwithstanding the non-start, it does terribly look like head gasket :(

These engines just will not start without glowplugs, full stop. So if the glowplug controller was saturated this may explain...

I'm afraid the gurgling noises also point to a head gasket too...

Woooopeeeee!

Thanks for that, I was hoping the gurgling was the lack of fluid in the system ....

Glow plugs were new , but can't check the relay until later
