Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Change of engine

Vanny, How much is your time worth? I have just done a head job on a 1.9 BX as you probably know. The oil in the exhaust, and all the other problems are head gasket failure, I'll be 99% certain. The bits (If you need to buy a torque wrench and a Haynes) will come to £100. The work would take a weekend or two.Now I am not saying that you will be as...

Xantia - rear suspension fault

by alexx » 03 Feb 2003, 12:12

First post

Obviously, something's wrong with the rear corrector linkage. Don't drive the car until you fix it, except slowly and on the short distance (to the garage), because in the high position, you have no suspension at all, except that, given by the tyres.
Edited by - alexx on 03 Feb 2003 07:13:05

Last post

For no apparent reason, whilst I was driving yesterday, the rear suspension went to the 'high' position. The front suspension responds correctly when the adjuster lever is set to either low/normal/high position.
In terms of ride comfort, the consequence of this malfunction is less of an issue when the car is driven on a open road (non-urban) with...

I have used a small 1 Kw electric fan heater (about £8 B+Q) to dry out a few cars. Direct the air under the carpet and leave a window a little open to allow the moisture laden air to leave the car. If you can lift the other end of the carpet, it'll dry faster because of the wind tunnel effect.

ZX TD volcane starting problem

by mbunting » 02 Feb 2003, 19:17

Think about it logically.
The engine needs fuel, air and compression ( and a little heat if cold ).
To 'fire', the diesel / air mixute must be compressed until it self combusts.

Gavin
From what I've seen on newsgroups things may not be quite as bad as they seem.
From what you say you have bent the camshaft. The valve heads are parallel to the piston crowns and so the valves get a straight push and so damage the camshaft rather than bending the heads/stems.
This means you may be lucky and be able to replace the camshaft...

XM flat battery

by Dave Burns » 30 Jan 2003, 03:40

First post

Is the name of the original supplying dealer on the number plate or a sticker in the window, they might help with the VIN.
Citroen UK might also help.
AA, RAC and the like will probably have a way of getting in without causing damage.

Xantia verdicts?

by Dave Burns » 30 Jan 2003, 03:35

Well mine has racked up 102,000 miles, 90,000 of them while in my posession, its cost me the same to run as any equivelant car except for a set of spheres, and the so called complicated and unreliable suspension merely does its thing day in day out with no problem.
Fortunatley the suspension as you suspect does have its affect on the resale value...

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this is a regulalry repeated question.
How do the Diesel-Turbo Xantia's rate? I'm seriously considering buying one as they seem very reasonable in price and spec.
I have heard all the warning horror stories about Citroen's hydraulic suspension etc and figure that this is why the prices stay so low.
Apart from being a bit bigger...

Empty cat..?!

by jmd » 30 Jan 2003, 22:58

First post

It seems that the absence of a Cat went un-noticed during your previous MOT,I have read of a case where the cat broke up in a car and somebody emptied out the broken pieces, reconnected the exhaust and continued on.Perhaps the previous owner of your car did this,or paid for a Cat he did'nt get.I expect you would achieve extra MPG without a...

Last post

Just had my 95 Xantia 2.0i 8v MOT'd, and told it needs a new cat. Well, it's been two years since I bought the car, at which point it was supposed to have had a new one fitted, so didn't have much choice (grrr, MOTs)
The puzzling thing was though, when I picked the car up, I was told the old cat wasn't just shot - it was completely hollow! No...

Iv'e got a couple of 19td's on the garage floor at the moment Tom and have had a look at them with regard to your dilemma, I think you are in for a hell of a struggle to get the old pipe off and a new one back on with the filler in situ, my advice would be to remove the starter motor so you can get at the clip securing the filler at its base so it...

Last post

The pipe has become brittle (as in detached). A new one was a very reasonable £3.50 but the bottom of the pipe is a long way down at the back of the oil filler. How do I remove the stainless hose clip on the end of the fractured pipe without having to remove the thermostat housing etc. Surely there has to be a way. I am sure that it was originally...

Bought a Xantia TD

by RichardW » 29 Jan 2003, 13:28

First post

Chris,
Accumulator sphere is located down the front of the engine, almost in the middle of the car. 2s click indicates replacement almost certainly necessary. Don't expect the tick time to go much above 15s on a 190k car - the internal leaks will probably necessitate frequent pump action!
LHM round the tank may be a leak from one of the various...

Hello all,
I have just collected my '93 Xantia SX TD and have had it in the garage giving it going over. There are a few issues that have come to my attention. The car has covered 193k, but has a full main dealer history for the first 120k, and came with a bundle of bills; it had a full diagnostic done at a diesel centre at 140k and the glow plugs...

Has any work been done on your car recently which might have disturbed the wiring ?. If not check all earth connections, and relays.A local friendly Garage might exchange relays for you to test. This seems like an earth problem rather than a short,in which case if it was the latter, it should be blowing fuses.Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

My K (1993) reg Xantia has a problem, when I try to indicate left or right both come on i.e. as if the hazards are on. I removed what I think is the indicator relay (above the internal fuse box) and then re-seated it.
It seams to work i.e. it makes a clicking noise and the indicators flash on and off BOTH LEFT & RIGHT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!

zx rear wheel bearing!!

by David W » 29 Jan 2003, 14:07

First post

You need the new wheel bearing and a nuw hub nut...plus a socket for the nut on a long bar. To properly do up the nut a torque wrench will be needed.
At least you don't have to fiddle about and adjust the wheel bearing afterwards like the other type you mention.
While you're in there carefully peel back the dust rubbers on the wheel cylinders...

the o/s rear wheel bearing has gone, but how do I get the drum off to fix it? I am new to Citroen ownership, all my past cars have had a split pin and a nut, but this is new to me,whats the answer, are there special tools needed?.Cheers Frank

Xantia Fascia Fan

by Dave Burns » 28 Jan 2003, 23:03

Its located behind the alarm led on the dash next to the clock, I find it best to yank the clock out so the alarm led grill clips can be pressed in, watch out though that clock can put up a struggle.
If you try and pull the little grill out without pressing the clips you can end up busting it.

TDC sensor

by DLM » 28 Jan 2003, 16:11

First post

This isn't much help, but you're not the first to try and get this information. There's a section on the BX DIY site about retrofitting tachometers to petrol engines with an ominous space where they said they'd fit in the section about diesels when the information is available .

I've had a rev counter on a TGD suddenly stop working (in cold...

Last post

BX Diesel has a TDC sensor which signals to my currently inert tachometer. In order to make it ert again, I need to do some detective work. Does anybody know the nominal resistance of the sensor please? Has anyone an idea of the signal level coming out? This will tell me if the Sensor is duff or if I am going to have to strip out the dash again....

I've got a brake warning light problem with a Citroen Xantia 1.8 16v SXi ('97). I'm not aquainted with the VSX,but I think the spheres are similar in all Xantias that is two spheres in the engine compartment, and one in the lower front centre, again in the engine compartment. Two in the rear inside each rear wheel, and one in the rear centre. All spheres need renewing every two to three years,or they can be refilled on the car by...

the red/orange disc should be between the two rings when car has settled to the max height.

Hello all, need some info
HOW MUCH FLUID DOES IT TAKE TO FILL THE RESERVOIR TO THE REQUIRED LEVEL ON A XANTIA.
HOW IS THE LEVEL CHECKED, IT SAYS THAT THE LEVEL IS CORRECT WHEN THE FLOAT IS BETWEEN THE RED LINES WHEN THE SUSPENSION IS IN THE MIN POSITION.

Indicator stalk

by MW » 27 Jan 2003, 22:32

I have some good news and some bad news....
The good news is that a new stalk switch assembly should certainly fix it, and it isn't too expensive. I had mine replaced (on a 95 Xantia) last year, and the damage for the entire multifunction assembly was around £35.
The bad news is that it's a steering-wheel-off job, which is why I got my garage to...

LHM breather pipe

by RichardW » 27 Jan 2003, 16:00

First post

It is as you suggest a tank breather, and the loose end is normally just pushed into the hole in the wing behind the tank. The other end is connected to the pressure regulator, and I am not sure of its function. Suffice to say that if it comes adrift then the PR pumps all the LHM out on the floor. Repaired this on my mates BX TD estate in a...

On my BX, there are two vey thin (3mm)clear pipes emanating from a Y piece on top of the LHM reservoir. one of them disappears into a large bundle of plumbing that runs up the inner wing and the other goes nowhere, leaving me with 18 of pipe which clearly needs somewhere to go! Can anybody help me rehome it please? Identifying it and it's function...
