Purchasing New Injectors

Can new Diesel Injectors bought of the shelf be fitted into an engine,or do they need to be setup,or checked.

Yes, they can providing they are for your exact make and model of engine, but they would cost a fortune and be difficult to find.
Another way to get injectors off the shelf would be service exchange units, this you exchange your injectors for theirs (even then they would be hard to find, but not as hard as new units) or if you have time on your hands is to have them serviced at reputable service centre, this maybe a cheaper option.

Jmd,
Why do you think you need new injectors. My 2 Bxs have done 170k and 140 k without having to renew them. Are you sure you don't just need a good blast of injector cleaner?? It's a lot cheaper!

I don't really think that I actually need new injectors YET,but I've toyed around with the idea for the following reasons. I had them serviced about 70K ago (& I use a shot of Injector Cleaner every 10K or so.) After they were last cleaned & checked "professionally" there has been a slight leak. I suspect that the Fire Seal Washers and Copper Washers were not renewed,(Haynes say they should be renewed).Yet the leak seems to be at the neck of the injector,rather than at the base (or where it screws into the block).I returned the car on a few occasions afterwards to have the leak repaired, without result.The Serviceman said that next time I would need new Injectors.Two are affected.Yet my Xantia returns 50+,1.9TD despite the leak.

Thanks for your advice. See page 25.Andyspares Catalogue.Injectors range in price from £19/35 depending on the engine type.

Its more important that the injectors are for the specific injection equipment fitted rather than engine type as the same engines can have different fueling equipment, this is because injector opening pressures play a major role in the start of injection timing.
I assume the leak you speak of at the injectors is a fuel leak, the fire seal and copper washers refered to in the H are to seal against combustion gasses and not fuel, there should be no such leak after any kind of work on them Jim if they know what they are doing.

Yes!,it is a fuel leak I am referring too.(sorry for not being more specific)& thanks for clarifying the function of the seals & washers,I was thinking in terms of Fuel,but of course it would be burned after getting into the cylinder.The leak is not large,no diesel under the engine,or on the ground,so the leak is very small.While aware that there should be no leak,the strange thing is that despite the leak,MPG is so good (50 - 56 MPG depending on driving.(keeping to max of the statutory speed limits most of the time.)The pump is a Bosch,so I expect this should be matched with Bosch injectors.Those referred too on Page 25 of the Catalogue.
