Indicator stalk

Post by rogerpatton »

My indicator won't 'lock' to indicate right on my 1995 Xantiax TD SX
Will a new stalk fix it? Is it easy to fit?
Thanks

I have some good news and some bad news....
The good news is that a new stalk switch assembly should certainly fix it, and it isn't too expensive. I had mine replaced (on a 95 Xantia) last year, and the damage for the entire multifunction assembly was around £35.
The bad news is that it's a steering-wheel-off job, which is why I got my garage to do it instead of attempting it myself. If you're the kind of bloke who can handle removing an airbag (safely!), then good luck to you. A bit beyond my competence, unfortunately.

Removing the airbag isn't too much of a problem as long as you carefully follow the procedure and precautions given in the Haynes manual.
I've removed the airbag on my Xantia twice now, once to change the indicator switch, then again a year later to replace the instrument illumination bulbs. It's less scary after the first time

Thanks Mike and Nick, I will take it to the garage, don't fancy messing with an airbag.

I replaced mine on my 1995 TD LX last weekend which suffered from the same problem. It has fixed it and thanks to help from here I didn't have any problems taking off the airbag or steering wheel.
If you do decide to attempt it yourself I would search for 'airbag' (and 'air bag') removal on this forum. The important tips are that the first 2 screws you remove are T30 and to tap the steering wheel of the column with the nut loosened but still in place.
