Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

As you all know well by now, i got a Xantia V6 with the ZF HP20 box, the mileage is 111k.

Today a fault came up after drive into a junction, and then again going into reverse, it happened twice in reverse, switching the engine off it didn't come up again. And since it's been ok, I reckon it's the oil that needs changing/topping up. It's...

Hi, Ive read most of the posts regarding the stepper motor, engine temp sensor and the throttle potentiometer and am fairly convinced one or all of these things is the cause of my problem.

Ive an old 94 L reg 2.0i volcane 8v and is exhibiting the classic and well documented symptoms:

-wont idle when cold (once warms up revs 'hover' around...

Might be of help to someone else. Problems were solved by replacing the water temperature sensor, map sensor, lambda (oxygen) sensor, stepper motor and removed and thoroughly cleaned the inlet housing.

Also, I was getting petrol fumes in the car with the windows or sunroof down. This was fixed by replacing the fuel filter.

Hello All,

Can anyone help me with this small problem I've got:

I've recently (within the last 4 weeks) changed all my spheres, Hydraulic Regulator & Hydraulic Pump, and renewed the LHM fluid in the system, but still I have the Regulator clicking every 5 seconds, or so (starts off at about every 8 seconds when starting from cold, then goes to...

Aha! That may explain why my 1.9TD is showing the K light and not running a smoothly as it should.

After selling my beloved and hardy 2.1td (which i still miss)... I found her replacement, her name is Anoushka and she has got big... erm... engine!

It's quite a kick-ass car isn't it, more than enough power unless you want to lose your licence or go sliding into a wall somehow.

It's got pretty much full service history... up to 95k, it's on...

I'm confused (not hard I know!) 8)

Higher spec C5s have Hydractive 3+ with the sport button, and auto height reduction at speed. Lower models are badged 'Hydractive 3' under the bonnet but have no sport button - but are these really hydractive (ie 3 spheres / axle) or is 'Hydractive 3 just the electronic version of the old 2 spheres / axle...

I am very glad I went for them, I was worried that it might be like riding on a blancmange after but am pleasantly surprised how little the handling has been affected. If REALLY pushing it on a roundabout it...

Got an intermittant problem with blower & heated rear window intermittantly not working. The failure is always simultaneous and nothing else affected. I've looked at Haynes wiring diags for a possible common point - separate fuses, could it be an earth point? Has anyone experienced this or could give a clue as to common earth for the two?

You may find if the ignition switch is faulty that removing the key from the keyring makes it work properly.

I used to drive electronic forklifts which suffered from this problem (it was fun - the things had regenerative braking - ie if you lifted off the thing would stop - but if it switched off - it would run free!)

Browsing e-bay just now, I came across this...

Quite amused me. I guess for £30 you get a nice box with a couple of diodes in it :roll:

One thing, it will work if you have the classic electrovalve problem but if you're half-handy with a soldering iron and have an electronics shop nearby the same thing can be done for less than 30p :wink:

Changed front three and rear two spheres last Autumn. Now as soon as car comes to a halt the rear sinks and then rises again when I pull away.

Just wondered if anyone can enlighten as to why a replacement ZX radiator has it's drain plug sealed. I have fitted a Valeo and the hole at the bottom where the drain plug goes is now sealed (yet it is still there). It is also the same for a Pug 306. I normally track fuel consumption by noting distance covered on the a trip recorder. Last time I filled up, I chose to use the b recorder.

It seems to be running very much more economically this week :?

Does the a recorder measure miles and the b record Kilometers by any chance?

How exactly does it work?

I'm registered and now i paid 3 euro's and i can't do anything, it just shows what i have paid... no other options? anyone else been on it with success?

What normally happens is this is the thin end of the wedge. The price seems
reasonable-ish now and you get into your comfort zone with it being a pay to
view instead of the old free access. Then it starts to incrementally go up due
to fluctuations in the euro/pound etc etc (or something just as creative).

Hullo agen,

How do I remove the radio on a later Xantia? I need to do it to retrieve the radio code written on the top. Silly place to put it really. I can then reset the ECU, auto ECU and be happy that everything will work next time should I need to disconnect the battery again.

Plus someone mentioned in another post that you need to disconnect...

Well this morning our 2.1td mk1 decided the indicators werent needed anymore :(

I dont have access to the handbook or haynes and was wondering if anyone knew which relay and fuse it was for the indicators at all?

Everything else on the stalk works fine, horn and lights and foglamps so i imagine the relay has gone as the hazard button gets no...

Ok ive looked around the fusebox and they are all fine, the relay for the indicators appears to work fine, the indicators work fine unless you activate the hazard warning switch. the alarm/dead locking when activated via the fob doesnt activate the indcicators either.

Is there a common fuse or Relay hidden somewhere that activates all these as...

Hi all,

I have noticed that the steering on my 1998 2.1 TD Xantia (124,000 miles)has become heavy. I suspect this has been happening gradually, but was made obvious on return to Dublin after driving a C2 on holiday in canaries last week. The brakes also feel less powerful. Last oil change 2 months ago, I noticed there was a slight leakage of LHM...

Simon : donno really. I do remember though that we had discussions on exactly that problem. Try a forum search and you may find it. IIRC it would be either the mid or rear block on the drawing. Could it be the single output new style pump fitted to the very first production years of Xantia (& XM) - that had this plastic part - and not the later 2...

sorry this is really dim but i cant work out how to take the glovebox out

the book of lies tells me to get the tang at the back of the box past the stop and then fully open the glovebox so that i can get at the mounting screws

well i carefully er levered the glovebox with a large blunt screwdriver (invaluable tool) and got the tang thingy past...

One of my Xantias has blown yet another hydraulic pipe after about a year, and it lasted the same time as the previous one. It is always the same one, the main 6.35mm pipe between the pump and regulator block, always in the same area, the outside of shallow bend exiting the pump, before it gets to the pipe clip. The split is always longitudinal,...

Simon & Slim really already said whats worth to be said on this problem.
I can add that the problem in no way is unknown, but OTOH not exactly common.
I've seen it myself on a BX, but that certainly was caused by missing pipeclamps over the pipe run. Besides the BX main pipe from pump is the early type with the wellknown Citroen...

I have a LASER multi meter, and need to test a ABS fault using it.

How do i use the meter, and what and were do i test to find out what sensor is at fault,

Basically I'm a real noobie at this, so need to know how to use the meter... IE what settings and were the black and red wire should be attached to it to.

Right , My rear passenger door driver side will not open , Ive got the panel removed have pocked and prodded .But still locked

The bars inside move , but the door is still locked.

I can hear the central locking working .

The door cannot be open from the outside , door cannot be open from inside .

Hi Anders.

Yes the Xantia door locks are mainly a plastic casing with a few metal clips, levers and springs etc. Lots of them jam up too.

I know this might be a daft question,

But which Water Pump listed at GSF is for my 1996 TD Elation as it lists 3 pumps which to choose from, I don't know what my RP is ??

Where would I find this RP number on my car, I can see my paint code on the L/H suspension turret.

I've found it, its in yellow on top of the L/H strut as said.

Its 6976, so from Anders link that puts it as being made between 1st Dec 1995 and 1st Jan 1996 which would be about right as it was registered 04/1996.

Soon after I got my car I noticed that the ABS warning light would come on if I exceeded a certain speed. It would go out the next time I started the car. Then it started to come on if I went round a left hand bend quite quickly. Sometimes it wouldn't reset until I reached about 20mph on the next journey, which tallies with what was said on...

I've finally managed to get my 1995 2.0i VSX going again - turns out the
fuel pump sender in the tank packed in - decided one day never to work
again - no warning signs whatsoever - took ages to work that one out...

The process of elimination was a slow and torturous one with many things
tried and swapped over (but reinstated as they were again...

To help you indentify the number of each pin/which way round to read it, if you look carefully at the ecu connection block you'll invariably see a very small number moulded into the plastic alongside each pin.

After repairing the speedo drive a few weeks ago, I started wondering, what is the Vehicle Speed Sensor function?

I know it has something to do with the ignition, but what? :?:

Depending on the model, it does several things:

It sends a speed signal to the Hydractive Computer to assist with hard/soft mode change decision process;

In manual gearbox cars it tells the Engine Management to maintain a slightly higher idle between gear changes to ensure a smooth change whilst the car is in motion;

Following my recommendation, a friend has finally taken the plunge into the world of hydraulic Citroens and bought a C5 2.0L HDi VTR Break. He had a Volvo V40 previously and needs lots of space for his model railway layout. It cetainly has that in spades!

I had a look at it today, the first C5 I have looked at close-up. Unfortunately I did not...

Anyone had a head gasket leaking oil behind the injection pump on XUD engines?

I had it a while back on a 195K mile Xantia XUD, and now the same on an aged 205GRD. It transpires that the 'O' ring embedded in the gasket that ensures oil feed to the camshaft goes rotten and seems time related rather than mileage. The leak ends up being pretty...

..or otherwise 8) All questions tonight! Anybody give me a hint what the real world MPG for a 2.0i Xantia is? Average is quoted about 31. There's a nice looking S plate Exclusive on AutoTrader but it's 2.0i rather than 2.0 HDi - and if the comparison is 30 vs 50 mpg, then that's >£1300 a year extra for me to run the petrol - more than the car is...

Hi Ian,

The name anti sink sphere is misleading. As you probably know, the rear brakes get their operating pressure from the rear suspension; that way they are load sensitive. When Citroen fitted anti-sink it was realised that, in the event of hydraulic failure, the a/s valve would close and isolate the rear brakes from their pressure supply. So...

forgot to ask this my engine (1.9 td) ticks over a bit lumpy the idle speed is ok and it drives smoothly its just when idling it seems a bit rough any ideas thanks

hi guys i now have a question regarding the front wheel hubs.my nieghbour has a xantia 1.9td and both front wheel bearings have gone now like me these cars are bieng run on a shoestring budget,my question is are the hubs on xantias interchangable?i ask because at my local breakers there is a 1.8 xantia with good hubs now i thought that diesel...

No problem at all, if all fits then go ahead. As far as I know, these is no difference in hubs until you come to ML - type gearbox equipped cars (2.1TD, Activa, HDi, V6 etc).

Just been out in the ZX, and it's got quite noisy (yeah, more than normal!). It's a 'dry' whirring noise coming from the front, unaffected by power on / off, related to vehicle speed, and not changed on corners, so I guess it's the RH shaft inter bearing. It did need some persuasion to get the bearing out of the housing when we changed the clutch...

Malcolm : the bearing and grease can take quite som high temperatures without any damage at all. From memory (please correct me !) the standard bearings (and grease) spec ranges up to at least 110degC...

Im looking to change both rear seat belts due to the belts not returning and finish up dangling out of the doors,will hatch back rear belts fit the estate.paul.

just whatch out for the sticky smartys and half mellted hard boiled sweets,usualy find the belts dont return properly if they are all twisted,so pull them right out and make sure they go back flat

Will be draining out the hydraflush at the weekend and replenishing it with lovely green blood.
I've been looking around the web for supplies of LHM greater than 1Ltr, but so far only found 20Ltrs for £100 which is a bit too much and considering they said it was also for the C5 and C6, I think I'll give them a miss.

I'm looking for a 5ltr...

Here's something I thought of the other day.

Did Citroen actually prduce a ZX without a sunroof?
All the ones I've seen have them & I remember when I change the headlining in mine the roof was pressed to take the sunroof, where as my 106, the roof has been cut to fit the roof & I know you can get that without one. :?:

I have looked at the opther topics here about different pressures and i understand that the more pressure there is in the sphere the softer the ride will be. (If i am wrong please correct me).
My question is about the size of the sphere - what is the difference between 55/400 and 55/500 ?

I have xantia 2.0L 16V non hidraactive, the front spheres...

I baught spheres for my xantia 6 months ago and now they are no good.
on the original packing (I.F.H.S. Brand) there s a number 2 mark - i assume it means there is a 2 year garantee on the spheres.
The guy i baught it from says there is only 3 months garantee.
how do i find a document that says they have that 2 year garantee or their customer...

You adjust ride height by rotating the connection to HC which is clamped around the anti roll bar, get it on the ramps or over a pit is better, I think its an 11mm bolt loosen slightly and with the engine running and normal height selected tap the clamp to rotate it around the roll bar (I use a big screwdriver and a hammer)bounce the front up and...

Cit specialist I use has dissapointed me in as much he says his check is simply to compare the car with another xantia.

That's a method that might work if the other car is adjusted correctly, and in all probability its not. Also if he did not have another Xantia in the workshop it sounds like he would be scratching his head.

The car is making knocking noises, I think from the front left. It is speed related, maybe 1-2 knocks per second at just over walking pace, increasing somewhat with speed. It doesn't seem related to bumps in the road & continues when declutched. Any ideas??

i have a dispatch 1.9 td(1999) van with 108k on the clock with service upto 96k(2yrs ago) it has only done 12k in the last 2 yrs.
having only owned the van for 6 weeks i thought i would get a full service done. all was ok until the engineer saw paste/cream in the oil filler cap, he told me that this is the sign of head gasket trouble....

I have a problem with my wife's car.

It is a C3. with the 1.4 HDI engine, and more and more frequently, there just seems to be no power at low revs. It is as if the Turbo has dissapeared. Then as the revs rise (normally about 2000 to 2500 rpm), the turbo comes in with a wallop.

I am assuming, there is a sensor gone a bit amiss, but the engine...

I read on carsurvey.org that u gotta take the engine out to change the spark plugs, surely this is just a silly exagrration?

I am about to embark on changing the timing belt on my overdue XUD. I want to do the idlers as well, but the haynes says you need to make up a tool to hold the plunger in.

Is this really necessary, or is there an alternative?

I want to replace my Lower track control ball joints (base of strut), which one side is worn.

Can't see them listed on GSF 'Online Shop' as a single or as a kit for both sides. These have previously been changed as they have nuts and bolts, fixing them to the arm.

If they don't do them any suggestions who might in the Cardiff area.

The V6 needs an aux belt tensioner, looks fairly straightforward to change but does anyone know if this is a V6 specific part or if one is available from anywhere else other than Citroen, as I'd like to try and avoid paying Citroen prices?

Anyone changed one already that can offer any pointers before I delve in?

Changed the belt, tensioner and jockey wheel today. Bearings were shot on the tensioner and jockey wheel and the tensioner had partially seized which would explain the squealing belt. £170 of parts altogether.

It runs much quieter now though, you don't really notice how noisy the bearings are getting until you fit new ones. I hope I got it all...
