Evening all,
Today our 1.6 hdi 04 plate citroen picasso has broken down.
I was being driven and then would not 'go' any more.
The engine starts to problem and the clutch can be operated without any unusual noises.
When you jack one wheel up put it in first and 'drive' in the wheel off the ground spins but if enough force is applied you can stop the moving wheel. For some reason its easier to stop the o/s/f wheel than the n/s/f wheel.
When you attempt to drive the car forward you sort of move about a foot before just nothing happens, as if the drive is not making it to the wheels.
Does anyone have any ideas?!

It sounds as if one of the clutch plates has become detached from the clutch pressure plate. Whatever the cause may be, I imagine that the gearbox will have to be removed in order to investigate the fault, sorry

The last car that I had with sudden gear failure like this was my son's Peugeot 306, the crown wheel was spinning round rather than driving the diff.
No clonks, no noise, it was working perfect one day, then the next, no drive at all, but the clutch and gearbox all seemed to work perfectly.
But..... the gearbox has to come off anyhow just to investigate, so if it is sudden clutch failure, you should spot it then.
Regards.
Martin.

When you say the clutch stops turning do you mean the centre plate (not sure you could see this) or the whole assembly? If it's the whole assembly then it would mean that it must be fitted with a dual-mass flywheel which has failed. I don't know for sure if a DMF is fitted to this model, they are on more powerful citroen HDis.
