Doucer valve? :)

Unread post by Old-Guy »

I'm having another go at creating an illustrated guide to the 'ordinary' Xantia hydraulic system. To avoid making an idiot of myself, I'd welcome expert comment on the following: -

Somewhere, I picked up the convenient "Doseur" (valve) as an alternative to brake compensator valve or "compensator-brake control valve" (Citroen's translation).

A better translation might be "brake control and compensator valve", but it's one hell of a mouthful and still doesn't convey the key fact that it's what the brake pedal operates! IMHO, as it's the analogue of a conventional brake master cylinder, it would have been better from the outset to call it the Brake Master Valve - but it's far too late to change now!

Can the experts confirm that my terminology and spelling correct please?

BTW, I did once see it spelt "douceur" :) ('sweetener' or bribe).

best leave it as Dosuer Valve Guy. We all know it by that but what the correct spelling is, don't rely on me. I have enough trouble with English

I have heard this part called all of the above, plus master cylinder, hydraulic brake control and all sorts of others.

But we have allways called it in very simple terms...

The Brake Valve.

The translation terms can become usless, as if you look up the hydraulic regulator in the Citroen parts pages, you will find only a "Curcuit Breaker" this allways gets confused with elecrtical items.

Regards
Martin.

I've been wishing I could afford the $7K it costs here, for vision correction surgery. Then I think "That's almost half what a good Silver Shadow will cost me"... (Yes, I do want one - as a classic to keep - sooner than later.)

At Citroën, they call it ‘doseur’, meaning doser.

Which is nicely logical. It does after all give the brakes a dose of LHM!

Talk about "lost in translation" --- the French word for choke is "starter" !!!
As in http://peugeot-205.neuf.fr/modif_starter_auto.pdf where someone describes a makeshift automatic to manual choke conversion for a Solex carb.
