Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi all,

After many years of LHM/sphere changes I thought next time I change out spheres I'd flush out with hydraflush. That time is now...

I'm up to speed with how hydraflush works and how long to use it but...

Will ride feel any different (after all air is purged after citrobics) for 2 -3 k under hydraflush or same as LHM?

Good to know I'm not alone on this :lol: :lol: VSX ride sounds quite similar to Activa and I didn't mind poor ride for a few k but as opinion was ride was the same (hydraflush v LHM) my original worry was I'd got a load of duff new spheres. :cry:

i know its probably been answered many times, can flat anti sink spheres cause very harsh ride, as i now run an R reg 1.9 TD est standerd suspension, i have fitted new spheres on all 4 corners, she just aint a smooth ride

i have just finished dismantling my dead xantia and have mixed up the abs sensors without lableing them :oops:

they are both from the front so do they have to go sided or will anyside do

one other question can you use front sensors for the rear sensors though that question is probably going to be answered by the first one :lol: :lol:

I've been seeing on here a few posts recently that suggest later TDs are not returning wonderful fuel economy. Xac and his 33mpg from his 2.1TD is a case in point.

It has got me wondering on what can affect fuel economy in an ECU equipped TD. I assume that the timing and duration of the diesel injection on these are controlled by computing engine...

Will do. As a matter of interest, referring back to my post about cambelt covers, in the finish, I had to buy a new set.
Instead of the three sections fitted to our '93 car, it has now been modified and is only two.
However, these two section are remarkably cheap for a Citroen part coming in at under £10 inc VAT for the complete...

Further to the post of a 'which xantia' I have recently been toying around at the idea of an XM. So I will now ask... which one?

I'm kinda thinking 2.5td? or maybe the 2.1td, I really don't care about speed as such, but I would like some overtaking power from time to time. The main issues are reliability and running cost. I know they can be...

with the v6 24v manual, you just bring the clutch to the bite, pull up the park brake, and it'll go.

There is bags of torque at idle.

It'll pull off effortlessly in 3rd gear when on the flat.

Personally the only XM i will own is a Series 1 V6 24v.

Mine is going in for a full respray, the wheels refurbished, and general tidying up sometime in...

I have the following problem with the alarm on my above metioned car.

Can the water ingress be easily rectified?
Yes, the leak is caused by the plastic scuttle panel on the lower edge of the windscreen parting company with the screen glass itself allowing water to cascade in through the heater intake just below it rather than the scuttle panel deflecting it harmlessly away.

carefully lever up the plastic surround from the front using plastic levers,be careful as the trafficmaster LED stays attatched to it,move the surround aside then the display is held in by 2 T-20 screws. the bulbs just twist out.

I drained my Hydraflush yesterday after it had been in for around 1,200 miles.

Does it ever work well :D It came out quite dirty. I washed the filters again as they had picked up a little dirt but they were not that bad, certainly nothing like the fur coats they were wearing pre-hydraflush.

I refilled with Total LHM+ which has a really bright...

Don't worry about it. The worst normally happens to me and I've never had any bother with the bleed nipples. If your worried they look horrible give them a squirt of wd40 a bit before you start. Then its just a case of 8mm ring spanner and they open no probs.
LhM looks after them which is why they will undo nicely. Don't know about spares but I'm...

I'll add my weight to plus gas - it really is very good, makes WD-40 look like water or something :lol:

For really stubborn nipples (the ones on the back of previous Xantia were really bad, but I got both, and both pipe fittings, out using this method).

Give it a really good clean with wire brush and drown in PlusGas - leave to soak -...

This is a problem troubling a good pal's car so this info may be a bit
second hand...

Nice car that runs very well apart from an annoying habit of cutting back
the power as though there's a fuel blockage/air leak. The engine coninues
to run but there's no point as the car wont accelerate/pull at all well.
A restart usually always creates a reset...

I have been runiing my HDi Xantia for a year now with the EGR solenoid disconnected.... runs slightly sweeter at low revs, and doesn't coke up the inlet valves.

I wish to change the cambelt on a 1.9td xantia along with the tensioners and water pump. Its not something I've done before, having paid the garage last time. I think I have all the necessary tools and I've been studying the forum and haynes quite closely. I am not 100% confident that I will do it right but I am fortunate in that I have a spare...

Get yourself down B&Q and buy 3 M8x 40 bolts, and a meter length of M8 threaded bar - cost about £2 :lol: Now, chamfer the end of the bar, and bend the last 6 inches up about 15°. When you come to timing the engine, have the covers off and the car jacked up with the drivers wheel (only - otherwise the diff just spins the passenger wheel backwards...

I have a 1997 Xantia 1.9 TD LX, its a lovely car, and seems to ride very well, and handle as you would expect a Xantia would. However, i need to know if its suspension behaviour is normal.

When you turn the engine off, and get out the car, the car rises at the back (reduced weight) then drops back down, lower than i would expect.

Rear height looks perfectly ok to me, especially in that last picture - its normal for the guard to be about in line with the top of the tyre at the rear.

When you get out of the car the rear will rise a long way due to the weight change and the fact that the rear suspension is (supposed to be) so soft.

I just snapped off a wheelnut in the hub. Really not impressed. Probably my fault as I tightened them up. So pleased its the dead car.

Well I'm convinced now. Torque wrench and no grease. I will clean up all the threads with a tap and die as well. Kinda glad now that I did this I don't want runaway wheels!
I only started this post to vent frustration as it was raining so I didn't want to go fix it at the time. Really glad I did though, looks like it could have saved me a bigger...

Picking up a replacement ram tomorrow, the lip that holds the sphere seal in place on my old one has corroded away to the point it no longer holds the seal (and fluid!) in place... I've got new rear spheres to fit anyway, and a new hyd pipe for the body, but does anyone have any advice/tips on changing the ram itself?

I have 2.2 Hdi C5 and sometimes when I stop the car and switch off I can hear what sounds like a pump running in the back of the car.
Any ideas what it might be?

I think it alters the ride height when you switch the engine off, could it be that?

the suspension pump is under the bonnet behind the o/s headlamp.
At the rear of the car it can only really be the low pressure fuel pump or (being a 2.2) the fuel additive injector pump.

Can anybody help!! Xantia LX TD 96' engine problem. Driving home last night and noticed a lack of power when going uphill, then realised i could see slight smoke coming from the exhuast and then finally a wierd whining noise from the engine, which is getting louder. I saw one post about a rear cylinder and remembered to ask.

My rear susp. cylinder´s inner cylinder was somewhat stiff to move by hand. I would need a reasonably large force to make it move - then it would move much more easily.

How is it to move yours? Very easy, little stiff, very stiff?

Right now if I push the car´s rear to the ground it...

It did not sound right to me when I tested it, also... but when on the car, I could not feel any resistence to move the rear, so I was thinking that was stiff for my weak arm but not for the car´s rear height...

If the rear piston should move easily then mine certainly has some...

Guys,

Here is a simple way for adjusting Xantia's height, calculated from a Xantia that after adjustment got superb ride quality:

Just ajust rear height so distance between rear wheel rims's border and the (wheel cover? don't know the right name for the part) is:

For 14 inch, 187,65 mm
For 15 inch, 163,25 mm

Then equalize the front by...

Kiddin... Truly, the official procedure is easy, and I can say that one SHOULD use it if he decides to adjust the car.

My Xantia just failed the MOT today with a problem about: Nearside steering system has excessive free play detected at tyhe steering wheel.

Any ideas what this would be?
I bet its not cheap

If its track rod ends - you'll be able to feel the play if you jack it up so the wheel is off the ground then raise the wheel to approximately the running position with another jack - then grasp the wheel at 3 and 9 'O' clock and push and pull.

There are numerous variations on this procedure - you may even be able to feel the slack with the wheel...

I have a Xsara coupe mark 1 year 2000 HDI and has 68k on the clock and can you tell me when i should change the cambelt, and roughly how long it would take and how much?

Thanks for the information and although I do not have a service history, I am sure that this is the genuine mileage. Noted that the service book said 75k per change, and also the past year I have been doing many short trips as using the train alot.
Also noticed that the engine management light is on and the stop / oil light bleeps periodically,...

I own a 2002 Citroen C5 2.0 sx, it is a wonderful car apart from a strange suspension problem which Citroen are struggling to diagnose and keep changing bits but it doesnt do anything - the problem is when the car is parked and I lock it the suspension will start to wurr as it does normally and...

Hi again,

Recently, the joint going from the pipe to the backbox of my V6 rusted to nothing and gave way, at first it wasn't too bad, but then it broke away and there was no silencer. NOT good, the thing was unbearably LOUD!!!

Since, i've stuffed a pipe inside the back box and slotted it into the broken pipe and put some exhaust sealant to...

I attempted to do the three rear spheres on my above metioned car - what a nightmere it turned out to be.
The pipe on the centre anti-sink sphere snapped and also a smaller diameter pipe connected to the block above the sphere snapped.

Question, to any experts out there : where will I have to go to get new pipes also I found two small needle like...

I recently tried to drive through a flood in this car and managed to suck water into the engine. After recovery the engine is running again but smokes badly and is down on power.

Hello all. I have a 1997. 2-1 TD Xantia. Just coming up to 100K miles. It usually takes 4 seconds of turning over to start from cold, when hot it starts instantly. Folks

Xantia estate 90 Hdi. I am not sure I have a problem but need your advice.

Temp gauge sits just above 80C on most journeys / load conditions.
Very rarely and sitting crawling traffic and hot weather might touch 94 then climbs back to around 85/87C
On hols recently A38 climb out of Exeter (if anyone knows that) - very steep / long car fully...

Hi everyone,

I have a 1999 Xantia HDI Exclusive, which is fine except for one problem. After the car has been left standing for a while, whenever I open a door (or the boot), the rear suspension drops quickly (the front stays up).

This started a while after I got the car, and would only happen occasionally, but became more often, and now happens...

hi all

im changing the rear discs on my xantia 1.9 d for the ones off my dead 1.9td (both 1996 p)

got everything off pads calipers etc but where is the screw to release the disc Bol says there is one maybe its just me being stupid :? :?

only thing i can see is a locating stub for the wheels is that it

front ones were easy but im stuck with 2...

Have 3 probs with my 2002 Xsara 2 1.4i, any help appreciated....

1) Low speed radiator fan not working resulting in 'STOP' light when main rad fan operates.
A similar thread mentions 'two resistors with coils near the fan' were the culprit - can someone point me in the right direction to find these resistors...

Hi another question , 1997. 2-1 TD It has a new clutch (hydraulic) the problem is the height off the floor of the clutch pedal its a full 2 higher than the brake pedal. The clutch takes up at the top of the travel (it did with the old one as well.) it does not slip. The problem is that the pedal is so far off the floor that it is not easy to use (...

All, I am advising a friend to go for a series 2 Xantia (under £1000), on the basis that they are cheap, value for money, well loaded, roomy, safe, etc

I tried to tell him what I knew about the engines.
I have had about 5 1905 TD cars, a 1.8LX and now a V6

I sort of said, go for a 2.1 loads of power and torque, not overly complicated, and...

Today I noticed that the LHS rear brake pipe was out of its clip on the rear arm. I put it back in the clip, Put wheel pack on the car and set lo normal height. When it was sinking I heard a crunch. Brake pipe is now sheared at the union going into the caliper.

Question is, how easy is it to replace this pipe? I will get one of the cit preformed...

Update.

I managed to replace the pipe last Tuesday. Fairly simple job. However, I could not undo the pipe clamp that Anders mentioned. In order to secure the pipe at this point, I wrapped the clamp in self amalgamating tape to give it a soft rubber finish and tie wrapped the pipe to that. It is as secure if the pipe was clamped in the original...

My Battery and Stop Warning lights on the dash are intermitantly coming on and off maybe for 10 seconds 3 or 4 times at the start of a journey. What is the probable cause of this it seems to be in the wet that it happens.

I am towing a caravan using this car down to the South of France on Thursday so info before would be appreciated

That's roughly what I was going to say. There is extra load on the alternator when you start because it's replacing the power used to start the car. I'd suggest a new belt for peace of mind.

I have now got TehAgent's Xantia running very nicely with an older mechanical injection pump following his original pump springing a masive leak. It flies and runs like a clock.

I have just got to finish off the electrics. Now I have a problem. The BoL is useless for electrical diagrams and does not even hint at the ECU controlled Bosch Pump...

Hi Weety,

The Needle Lift Sensor is on No.3 Injector. Count two in from the cambelt end of the engine and you'll see a little black wire coming from the injector body by the leakoff pipe going to a brown connector attached to the top of the engine. This in turn has a black connector plugged ito it with a grey wire going off into the engine loom....

hi. couple of questions.

1. my dad has a 1996 xantia 1.9 td estate and the front right suspension feels very hard compared to the left. he has changed all the spheres but this side is still very firm, just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

2. same car different problem, when driving the car at about 40 mph the car shakes until 50-55 mph is...

If you cant read the diagram - what use would it be with still another one :wink:
You just need a location to find and replace that dodgy sensor.

The sensor would be a cylindric plastic thingy with a 2lead cable (maybe a cablesheath as a third connection) fixed with yet some other plastic fittings - to point onto the flywheel gear. Surprisingly...

In which MikeT and Ian (TehAgent) have leaky diesel pumps.

Ian and I had a look at his pump this evening and the leak is severe and appears to be coming from either the body/lid joint or from something under the armour plate covering the stop solenoid.

It is not clear from the photo but it is cascading out from just...

I have a problem with the air conditioning on my C5, the passenger side is blowing hot air regardless of the temperature setting, the drivers side works correctly. This is a real problem as I live in Queensland, Australia, and it gets very hot and humid in summer. Have been told it will cost me $1060 plus fitting for a heater evaporator assembly...

It’s either a heater matrix ... radiator, or an air conditioning evaporator, separate from the flap motor, at least on the XM and Xantia.
It does work normally on the driver's side, so it's only an air flow problem, not an air conditioning fault.
