New C5 and its problems

Post by follies »

Hi All
Having had 3 renaults and one picasso you would have thought I would know better. However I was seduced by a great deal on the new C5 which so far lived up to its looks, until.....
720 liles on the clock...
Cant turn the headlights off, stalk in "off" position...
but worse....
doing 50 on a dual carrigeway.
"anti-pollution system fault", lots of beeping and engine starts to die!!
managed to put on hazrds and stop without becoming toast, ignition off re-start and all seems ok, In at dealers in the morning...
Question is, is this the start of tales of woe, just a "glitch" will I be sold a load of bull by service.??
Any re-assurance, knowledge or consolation gratefully received!

"anti-pollution system fault" = apsf
or : fpsa = faulty PSA computers crap

Even the smallest hickup - or illegal fart - from the engine will set this message and make the car hump on 3 legs.

Sometimes its an OK message indicating your Eolys regenerating fluid is at low level.
Sometimes the dreaded EGR valve is carbonized and wont shut off right.
Sometimes there is small leak in the pressure sensing system over the cat
Sometimes ... you just had it

Stalk/headlights problem may be the dreaded comm2000 unit at fault, but try reset the whole car, by removing the battery connector at least 1 hr.

would be nice with the usual "ctrl+alt+del" feature on these rolling 'puters

Your headlamp problem could just be your lights are set to automatic.
The anti pollution system fault may have just been due to the FAP trying to regenerate for the 1st time on the dual carriage way if you were doing a steady 50mph.

Hope this gives a little re-assurance. I have done over 13k now and have not had any problems apart from a balance weight that came off the rear wheel. Its still early days for you and only hope that it settles down.

Mine has done 16500 miles now, 6500 by me and a good 1500 of them towing a heavy caravan without any problems. Has just been back on recall for cosmetic changes and a software update.

Springs to mind - new models have delayed turn off feature on headlights to light up your driveway while you unlock your maindoor.
Me thinks this feature can be disabled by your dealer.

I'd love this feature on my old BX out in the countryside where I live :D

C5 Fixed!!

Post by follies »

Thanks to you all...

All now fixed and here's how
Citroen replaced the fusebox and control relay...parts arrived quick due to it being a lease car...they even paid for a hire car!
As to the lights, spoke to the mechanic and he told me it was configured for "daylight running france" all now ok.
Fingers crossed!
