Proper running temperature for 90hdi Xantia

Post by rmunns »

10 years old, 48000 miles, 90Hdi engine.

Never had thermostat changed.

From cold, the car needs to be driven 5 miles before the temp. gauge reaches its running level.

Got back from UK a couple of hours ago - 1400km in 16 hours - and all the way the outside temperature was showing 2 - 8 deg. C.

Engine running temperature half way between the 75deg. C mark and the 90 deg. C mark. I am assuming the mark between 60 and 90 is, indeed, 75.

The needle hardly moved, except on big uphills or long downhills, where it moved up or down maybe 2 deg.

So this was a cold weather run (with light rain for all of the France leg).

Should I change the thermostat? I have read that sometimes old thermostats do not open as fully as they should and, of course, I'm very anxious not to cook the head.

If I dochange it, will bleeding be difficult?

My 306 HDi 90 that I've had for 5 years and put 63k miles on it has always run at the same temperature as that.

I've never changed the thermostat either.

Mine's now remapped up to 125bhp and there's no difference in the running temps either.

My brothers 306 HDi 90 is the same and my girl friends Xantia HDi 110 runs around the same as well so I'd say it's spot on!

I'm sure someone else will correct me if I'm wrong later on though!

David.

My Xantia was slightly different, being the 110 but mine took a few miles to get up to temp and then stayed solid at 75 deg C. I concur with David, tis spot on :D
