Just to put a little light on.
There are lots of different Xantia style pumps.
Basic types are,
6 cylinder petrol
6 cylinder diesel
6 + 2 cylinder petrol
6 + 2 cylinder diesel
6 + 2 cylinder XM 2.1 TD
6 + 2 cylinder XM 2.5 TD
6 + 2 cylinder XM 2.0 petrol turbo (also fits activa)
6 + 2 cylinder Xantia V6 (only fits the V6)
6 + 2 cylinder HDI
In with these pumps there are some slight variants, this can be pulley size, angle of the pipes or distance from the pump to the back of the pulley.
Most pumps are the same inside. In other words, if it looks the same and the belt runs in line, then it will work.
The 6 cylinder pump runs with the old fashioned BX system, ie the car has a Flow distributor valve to control the pressure and flow to the steering pinion valve (150-)
The 6 + 2 pump has the 2 pistons to pressurise the suspension and braking system and the 6 piston side has it's own internal regulator that controls the 150- pressure to the steering at full flow. (no flow valve needed)
The big main difference is the Xantia V6 pump, this pump looks like a standard pump, but it has no internal regulator for the steering. The regulator sor the steering is up and attached to the N/S inner wing. Fit this pump to a standard Xantia and you will over pressurise the pinion and blow fluid out all over.
The Xantia V6 pump is easy to identify, as it has the pulley held onto a hub with 4 x bolts.
