Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Probably a silly question, but how the hell do you remove the air filter box from a xantia like mine. Can't believe I'm having to ask such a basic question but here goes.............

I've loosened the jubilee clip at rear connecting to the flexy hose,
I've unscrewed and removed lid & filter element,
I've undone 3x 10mm bolts retaining black metal...

Is this the first post on the c2?
I need to change the Crankshaft pulley on my c2 Hdi.
How do I stop the pulley moving.
With hte car in gear and someone holding the brakes on, the pulley will turn at least 1/4 turn making it difficult to put enough pressure on to release the bolt.
Any ideas would be appreciated

My Xantia 1.9TD 1994 had been standing for 2 months and the battery was flat so I put the battery on charge overnight. I reconnected the battery and then after the heater lights went out turned the key and she fired up straight away. The problem is that the alarm has the lights flashing all the time while the ignition is on. I cannot get the blip...

You're correct Steve, but this simply stops the Klaxon alarm but has no
effect on the flashy lights bit of teh alarm. That'll be why you see some folk
in Xantiae on ebay worrying about the lights doing their own thing after
fitting a new battery etc...

Last evening Xac and I had a close look at his new Xantia. One small problem is a split steering rack gaiter. Luckily it's the easy one on the RH side.

The rack has lost quite a lot of lubricant all over the subframe and back of the engine.

Question is, when the gaiter is replaced, how should the rack be refilled with lubricant, how much and...

Hi guys; New boy here. I have acquired a really nice looking Xantia 2.0 16v auto Exclusive. Unfortunately the beauty is only skin deep and I have a few electrical ? problems.
1) The internal fan only runs flat out.
2) Only one fan for the engine cooling works and this only kicks in when temp gauge shows 110 deg c.

I'm almost done fitting this to the SX estate, but need to know how the brain is strapped down in the console.

Can an obliging soul pop their oddments tray for a look, and report back?

There is a knockout panel in the carpet, slightly larger than a matchbox and adjacent to/covering a threaded stud. Is it fixed off to this with an M6×1 flanged...

From an offer on my black bonnet wanted listing on this forum's For Sale:

Black early Lx saloon, on a L with later grille and bonnet an s2 interior but early steering wheel. Lekky roof and alloys and nice shiny straight bodywork.

I was driving along the other day and it sounded like there was a hissing from the sunroof, as though it wasn't closed properly.

With the cardboard part in the way i couldn't see what was happening.

So I pressed the button to make it close more and hence stop the noise, but... on pressing the button there was an almighty loud bang and the...

A crude, one-off, variation on CitroJim's method is to grab the female end of the extension bar with a mole-wrench. Like Jim, used for my 1.9TD cambelt tensioner. Chewed up the extension a bit, but the whole kit only cost £4.99!

Does anybody have experience of towing a Xantia with either an A frame or a towing dolly?

I want to pick up a Xantia saloon, which runs OK, but needs to be towed. I was contemplating using my Xantia estate, as it is fitted with towbar and I have a long leaded lightboard.

As far as the legals go, I assume I am OK, as the estate is heavier than...

A flat bed trailer is definatley your answer here, although I have towed robin reliants with the front wheel on a boat trailer and the rear wheels still on the road , the chassis rails used to fit the trailer rollers perfectly and i was never stopped towing an untaxed car even driving from the devils puchbowl to portsmouth.

I've heard a similar noise on older XUD's like 309's. When cold my Xsara squeals around the driver belt area. It's like older cars queal when their water pumps are past it. It pretty much goes away when you rev the engine slightly, but when stone cold it hangs around for a bit first. Also, at just above tickover theres a sort of clattery rubbling...

Both have stopped working on my 2000 xantia est.
First I checked the fuses, none blown.

Is there a plug that may have worked loose tat connects both?

The rear wiper unreliability is another issue altogether (internal fatigue of solder joints). I dealt with it recently, and added a small write-up to an exisiting thread - search by my username, rear and wiper to find it. Happily, it's a straightforward and fairly quick repair.

first post here, hopefully someone can help me. I got myself a hydractive xantia mkii (T reg) last year, which had a couple of electrical niggles which I have mostly managed to sort out.

However, one thing which I am not sure about is the hydractive mode switch on the dash. Most of the switches multipin wiring looms are colour coded...

On the Hydractive Xantias they are common for problems with it sticking in firm mode. That said, perhaps the one that way unplugged was the suspension one in an attempt to switch it off?

If in doubt, speak to Citroen, They will tell you which is which :wink:

I have received much help with my fuel pump problem, so thanks to everyone.

I think that I will be biting the bullet and changing the seals on my fuel pump myself! So I have to wait for lots of free time to make sure it's done properly.

I spoke to a Bosch garage here in southern Spain and they quoted €600 to do the whole job from start to...

Hi,
The door lock on my 02 c5 hdi isnt working properly.
The inner handle occaisionally doesnt open the door and I have twice had to open the window to open the door from the outside to get out. :oops:
How difficult is it to take off the door panel? and once thats off what do I look for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :lol:

The door handle is connected to the lock by means of a long piece of wire.
There is a bend in this wire which sometimes stretches.
What you need to do is remove the door panel and take off the handle.
Unclip the wire from the handle end and shorten the bend in the wire using a vice grip or something similar.

My 1997 Saxo 175k miles has started to cut out on the move on hot days when in traffic. Some times it is just a hesitation and some times it lasts 5 or 6 seconds. The fan seems to be coming on OK and the coolant is not overheating. The engine light doesn't come on when it does this.

It seems like something under the bonnet has become temperature...

Coolant temp sensor on the side of the head. Often mis-diagnosed as coil pack or stepper motor. Think its a green one and a brown one. Works out about £40 for the pair from the stealers, as most nen-gen suppliers can't seem to get them right!

Might not be for sure, but I reckon it probably is. Usually screws the idling and fuelling up a treat too.

Best to change them before they break :!:

Most seem to think that around 80,000 miles is optimum but it really depends on how the car has been used, like so many other things.

I can't be sure if mine was done at 100,000 (just before I bought it) so it is being done in a week or so just to be on the safe side.

Hello, I had my wiper arm repalced a few weeks ago, since then the wiper only wipes a small angle in the middle of the window rather than the 180 degress it should.
I took it back to the dealer and was told the motor was not turning 180 degrees and that I had damaged it by not getting the arm replaced straight away and that it was not worth...

hi,due to the write up i replaced my strut top n/s mounting today! i used both your methods (left ram fitted to car, disconneted link for anti roll bar to allow removal of holed :shock: mounting)i used to be a hgv mechanic but i suffered a stroke 2yrs ago,so i was delighted to find it so easy (one handed right arm and leg useless since stroke) ....

Well.. I have been putting it off a while.. but placing cardboard under the subframe every time I stop is getting on my nerves..

So my Xantia that has run so well for 12000 miles in 6 months is coming off the road this weekend to be pulled apart :(

I have:
Clutch (Valeo)
Cambelt
Cambelt tensioner
Top end set
HG

And still to aqquire

If your buying the WVo i'd be very carefull what they claim has been done to it. Som will give it a quick warm filter thru a pillow case and stick it on ebay or the like.

Get a big clear plastic bottle and stick a few litres in there and leave it outside for a few days, and then a week or two and see how it settles out.

A colleague's C5 will start fine after being left for a few hours but if he tries to start it within an hour of using the car it refuses to start. Any ideas?

What ever it is, I'm pretty sure it won't be the glow plugs. It could be the low pressure pump - try wheeler's trick of whacking it under the tank whilst cranking. Otherwise, I suspect it will need to go on the diag computer when it's doing it so that the live data can be read to see what is amiss :cry:

Hi all...

Been reading closly about ALL blower faults and fixtures, but they havent cured a fault I have on a customers car..

A dead blower, it DOES work, tried it on another S2 with Air con, swapped the electronic long module that is attached to the side of the heater to the right of the blower, looked in to the Burnt out ignition syndrome,...

first of all hello :) :)

this is my first post :)

i bought car about a month ago...and first problem with my Xsara VTS '02 1.6 16v :)

acctually it's a minor probleb but so annoying :)

it's a display...the bottom half of a display is completely dead, and about 30% of lines on upper half is dead too ( see it on pic )...

is there any way...

I recently bought a Citroen Xantia 1.9TD. It has stuggled starting. I have replaced the glow plugs, and it seems like it´s taking in air.

If you mark the flange of the pump and the mounting plate, mark the replacement in the same place it should be near enough correct. I have found that the best way of setting the timing is by ear. My Activa has had slightly ripped rear seats since i bought it, and its a phase 2, V reg.

There is a N reg going for scrap parts on ebay, can somebody confirm the seats will be identical in there fittings a sizes before i buy them?

Also are they a simple swap?

Yes you can easily swap rear seats from a MK1 to a MK2. You must however obtain the inertia reel lap belt (a static lap belt is in the MK2) and the two lower seatbelts as these are shorter in the MK1 as they live in cutouts in the seat bases rather than clipping onto stowage clips in the MK2 when not in use.

The seats themselves are easy to swap....

You could be right about the picasso with it's lack of problems, although personally I think it's more to do with the fact that the Xantia, zx etc is a more 'involved' car (not so much the XM as that has it's own separate site).

Problem with newer cars is that it is harder to work on due to the technology and problems...

I was surprised to find my Citroen Xantia 1.8v 1996 failed to pass
its MOT yesterday. The reason was the horn makes just a barely heard
squeak. I rarely use the horn and was unaware of the problem.
My battery is OK can anyone tell me the cause and if I'm in for a lot of
expense. :(

Just thought i would let you know that i bought this item from e-bay because i had an engine management light come on my picasso. This was brilliant it picked the code and enabled me to erase it and i also found a code on my c3 aswell. best £21.99 i have spent for ages.

Is there any danger of a genuine fix for the capricious central locking on my ZX estate?? It does work occasionally, very occasionally- the new batteries in the transmitter seemed to help, briefly. Is it effectively the same as the rev counter, it'll work when it feels like it?
Using the key in the driver's door lock only wakes it up on very rare...

The Xantia 2.0 Hdi has recently started a slight hesitation.Only happens occasionally on light acceleration, but slightly disconcerting as i know this sort of problem is not going to go away.

Any thoughts on the likely reason?

I need a spare key for my 2006 Citroen Relay. The only key I have at the moment is the flip type blip 2 button remote key. I am either going to buy another flip type remote key or a standard transponder key with no buttons. But the dealer wants about £40 labour to program it and they need the van there too. Is this something I can do myself? Does...

You need dealer diagnostic equipment for this job & you definitely cant reprogram a 2nd hand key. in fact on this system (its a fiat system on this) all keys for the van must be present for the coding procedure, any that are not there at the time can never be reprogramed again to the van.

Guy my BIL works with is interested in a particuar second hand late
s2 (2000 IIRC) Xantia estate - it's an SX 110hp HDi with 90k miles.
The car doesn't come with service history though and I'd be interested
to know if the clutch will need changing shortly or if it's already had

This is almost certainly a silly question anyway & engendered as much by a lazy approach to site searching as anything else but........ has anyone any experience of fitting one of the 'performance enhancing' modules to the ZX TD?? You know the kind of thing, HUGE increases in bhp AND better fuel economy(!). I've always had trouble believing that...

More 'speed' doesn't necessarily mean more fuel. Acceleration is due to torque, the bhp keep the torque going... i.e bhp is a measurment of power over time.

So if you can increase the torque, theoretically you can go faster without using more fuel.

I had a ZX not so long ago, and it had the bosch fuel pump, and I whacked the fueling up until it...

Hi,

Don't know for sure on your Pug, but usually these nuts are tightened by holding the piston strut with an allen key in the centre of the rod (ie the threaded bit stucking through the nut) - there is no other 'counter nut' involved. Or alternatively the piston rod end may have a hex profile you could hold with a smaller socket or spanner...
