Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi, I have had starting probs over the last few days and wondered if the cold weather was to blame. I have had the Berlingo Multispace Desire just over 3 months and it has never let me down but suddenly I have starting problems.

Its a 2003 MPV. Done 53,000 miles.
I have found the glow plug relay down by the offside front light assembly but I am going to have to dismantle the air cleaner and pipework to get at it, hope it may just be corroded connection as it is in a very exposed position, will let you know.

how dose one check the fluid level on a C5, i know its under the plastic cover over the O/S inner wing,

but im told you have to depresureise the tank before removing the cap, then re/presureise once the cap is back on???????

Hi,

Check level with suspension in low mode.

Level should come up to the middle mark on the reservoir.

You need the engine running to be able to use electric pump to change suspension level.

If I have opened filler cap to replenish fluid I always raise suspension to High before replacing the cap. This ensures there is a small positive pressure...

i've seen a de-cat pipe that would replace the cat on my xsara diesel estate, my question is do you think it is worth doing, there is nothing wrong with the cat that is on there i was just thinking if it would give me a bit more performance it would be worth doing, car has only got 72bhp so any small gain would be useful :)

Performance gains are low, about 1 or 2 hp. But you gain on fuel economy. The downside, noise. My ZX is LOUD, specially in the 5000-6000 RPM region and with the K&N filter and cold air induction.

If it ever stops raining here in Yorkshire, I intend to do some routine jobs on my Xantia. Can anyone advise the correct oil to use in the AL4 auto box ?

Hirsty, I imagine you've seen the procedure for AL4 oil changes elsewhere, but in a nutshell:

Drain with the car warm, by removing the large outer drain bolt (it takes out the level tube with it). Note the fluid volume. Refit the drain/level assembly.

Remove the filler plug on top, and add a similar amount of fluid to that removed - plus a...

hi
i have a c5 3ltr 2003 the problem is, it sounds as if it is struggling when it is ticking over the rev counter is showing 5 to 6hundred
also sometimes when i put my foot down it seems to cut out for a second and then restarts i have had the plugs and coils changed but still the same

i would still be enclined to look for vaccum leaks first, you can do this with a can of carb cleaner, with engine running squirt it around veccum hoses and inlet manifold to head joints,

BUT DONT SQUIRT IT NEAR ELECTRICS AND IGNITION HT

One of the hoses on my C5's power steering split so I replaced and filled up with LDS fluid. Does the system now require bleeding as the pump is a tad noisey and there's plenty of squeaking from the rear suspension when driving over the slightest road imperfection

Just had my Xantia re-sphered, while it was in for its MOT. 8 replacement spheres later, it's back to being as near to a magic carpet as Xantias ever get. The joys of Hydractive II :D

We used re-gassed spheres from Pleiades, so I thought I'd just post a happy customer message. Service was friendly and helpful, and (for personal customers only!)...

Just had mine done as I was unsure if it had been done at the recommended 100,000 mile service.
I had the belt, tensioner and water pump renewed. The mechanic said the belt had been replaced but was running out as the tensioner was cracking up and the belt was rubbing against the cover.

I have just had to change both brake bulbs on my 2002 HDi Picasso and found that the wiring on the passenger side has a mass of insulation tape and what looks like a buzzer (small black box) hanging off it. Does this sound right? If not what could it be and could it be the cause of both bulbs blowing? I have just bought the car and don't know how...

HI

I've got hold of the seals necessary for the Bosch fuel pump and hope to start the job this weekend.

A question I have is that I have so many seals, but the instructions on the webpage only deals with 4 of them.

I trust that changing those 4 will be sufficient and I dont need to change everything??? It does seem to be leaking only from two...

yes actually i had the head gasket changed in France on my way back from holiday.. fortunately it blew about 500 metres from my only mechanical friend.. hadnt seen him for 4 years, and had to say.. err could you fix my head gasket :) Anyway they skimmed the head too, so it should be squeeky clean and new.. didnt count on the pump going...

I have a 1.9td 1997 xantia estate which used to start reliably always. Over the last couple of months it has been hard to start in the mornings although once started it is great for the rest of the day and drives great.
Last year i had the engine rebuilt after bending a con rod when water got in the air intake during a flood. After the work car...

I replaced the hoses for less than a fiver and it was very straight forward to do in only a few minutes.
The car starts straight away every time now. Only wish I hadn't replaced the glow plugs for the second time in a year trying to work out what the problem was :oops:

Folks Xantia 90 with AC

got a slight curry smell in the car on and off - very likely its the dreaded matrix.

GSF only mention -N17838 HEATER MATRIX XANTIA NO AIR CON - but mine has AC....!

Car cooling say they cover ALL models but not BEHR wahtever that is?

BTW Be VERY careful removing the scuttle trim! It's glued on with stuff stronger

Ok so my rear wheel bearing has gone again, this will be the 4th one since last summer now.
The offending wheel doesnt have the stone sheild although the other wheel does, but am i just getting crud wheel bearings all the time(GSF Incidentally)? This time i am going to take it back as a failed part as they are not cheap, IIRC about £45 a piece...

Well looking at the back end it looks like both rear wheel bearings are now on their way out AGAIN!!

now there are a lot of puddles on my to and from work when it rains so i guess teh water could be ingressing but i've had much older, higher miled xantias without ANY bearing issues....

Hello, should I be worried about oil that appears to be leaking from the bottom of the intercooler? I think its an intercooler. Small radiator thing. Pipe goes into top of it from top of engine.
Its got oil around the bottom of the radiator and thats flowed onto the bit below.

Have had someone revving it while I looked and can't see anything more...

credit crunched from a series 2 xantia activa to a 1.9D X Xsara ((X reg with just over 100k recorded). When the wheel is set dead ahead the car veers ever so slightly to the left. Is this the consequence of wear and tear (e.g. not unusual/ they all do that) but ok to postpone adjustment until next service ?

To check if the steering wheel is corectly centered, turn it from lock to lock and check that the straight ahead position is exactly half way. If it is, the track rod end/s need adjustment, if it isn't the steering wheel needs removing and refitting as previously stated.

Been down the local scrapyard today and spotted a P reg Peugeot 406 Executive, with about 3/4 of a leather interior. Looks like everything apart from the drivers seat.
Out of curiosity, does the 406 seats fit into the Xantia? I presume it would only fit into a series 2 Xant if it did?

I'll stick it in the For Sale and Wanted later on, when I know...

I disagree,

I fitted some Citroen XM cloth seats in a Xantia! Successfully... All I needed to do was swap the complete runners from one seat to the other as the bolting areas were in exactly the same place.... made a much more comfy and higher driving position!

So I cant see why 406 seats wont go in, with a bit of swapping and jiggling!

I started a clutch change today on my 95 TD SX, and had to stop and re-think my approach...

Firstly I cannot get the gear linkages off- Haynes manual says simply- Prise them off with a flat screwdriver All I seam to do is tear the rubber inside them...

Secondly I can't see how to get the pin out of the lever arm.

Does anyone have any ideas?...

I suffered a big loss of engine oil the other day on the motorway. Got the car recovered and have just traced the leak to the headgasket right behind the cambelt. With the car running you can see oil start to weap out at quite a rate.

I know this should really be a new head gasket job, but as the car is on 175k, and is worth very little, I am...

At low revs under load, say below 1500rpm, I have a groaning noise which seems to come from the left hand side front wheel area. The wheel bearing has been changed which helped a bit. Any ideas?

Drove the car to work last Thursday - went to start it to come home. Couple of clunky noises and no-starty. :(

AA come out, and confirm that it won't start. Drag me home.

Local garage were finally able to look at it yesterday. ECU was complaining of crank and cam sensors not being in sync :roll:

Seems it'd jumped some teeth on its timing belt....

I appreciate that it might not be too expensive to fix, but its a time thing for me.

I only paid £800 for it 18,000 miles and 12 months ago, and it has served me well in that time.

Hi,

I suspect the comm 2000 unit is failing on my Xsara II hatchback. (dipped headlights turn themselves on when I use the right turn indicator ... :roll: )

Anyone got any idea how much for a new one?

....looking on service.citroen.com they now start from £178 inc vat, but there's loads of different part numbers depending on what equipment the car has fitted, so its probably a good idea to tell them the VIN number to be sure you're getting the right one.

More small fixes for my Turbo... I found why hydractive valves were not opening... the electric cable for the rear one was disconnected. From the scratch marks on the gas tank looks like a good smack to the road caught the cabling (who routes a cable under the gas tank?)

Anyway, I reconnected it and valves now energize. Back is soft, front is...

Ok, if the valve clicks on and off every half second you still have a definite fault - I've seen this before and it's usually a faulty diode inside the electrovalve. Have you done the external diode modification for the electrovalves ?

My Xant 1.9 td mk2 is started to cut when i'm driving. it's going fine then with out warning it cuts out.Everything switches off.

Just a question to see if the Xsara and ZX are based on the same platform as the 306?? The Xsara shares very similar suspension set up to my other half's 306, and it resembles the underside of my old ZX too.

Shame the ride of my Xsara isn't as good (in my opinion) as my old ZX...and doesn't feel as sure footed as the Pug...but that could be down...

Hi all.

My wife was driving our R reg Xantia 1.9td back the other day, when the blower just stopped.

I've checked the fuses under the driverside and the all seem good but l'm getting absolutely nothing from the sliding switch. The heater still works fine as l can feel the heat coming out but no blower.

Anyone any ideas ??? I've heard strange...

Hi all - hope someone can help me.

I have searched forum and found no similar issue so here goes.

My Xantia headlamp is not working. I have tested the current and about 0.2V is getting through. The same result at both fuses. Can someone point me to my next port of call because I am now short on options and MOT looms!

Helped a friend change a clutch on the picasso this week, after waiting on parts etc.. (new clutch fork & guide) it ran into 2 days. Now after rebuilding the car wont start.

The engine will crank over but thats all. Has it losted the key code being disconnect from the battery for so long?

Can this be resync'd using the key/ buttons or is it a...

Fixed! it was the crank sensor at fault. The head of it had been hit during the refit.

my xsara which has the Citroen dw8 non turbo diesel engine has got a slight problem with the clutch, when i bought the car it came with a bill from the main stealers for a replacement clutch that was at around 99k car is now on about 127k.
the problem is when you depress the pedal at about halfway down the pedal gets a bit firm and then get easier...

A strange one this. My Xantia has a sort of rattling sound which comes from the front nearside wheel area, but only when travelling fairly slowly (30mph and under) and turning slightly to the right over ripples or bumps. The noise simply does not happen in the straight ahead position or when turning left and does not happen on a fast...
