Xantia Blower - FINALLY FIXED!!!
On our Xantia HDi Exclusive the heater just stopped working last night.
Started the car, the heater worked for a moment then stopped.
Now it's completely dead and refuses to do anything at any speed setting on the slider.
Is there anything that's worth checking first?
Thanks
David.

Hi David
I think there is a high amperage fuse in the circuit, in the XM its in the box in front of the battery, it doesn't make good contact, gets hot and burns the holder out. Check the across the thick red and black leads to the motor and see if you have 12v, if you do its probably the transistors on the blowere unit faulty.

Thanks guys.
What's the easiest way to get to the blower on these things?
When I think about it, it's been messing around a bit since we got it. I don't think the auto position has worked very well at all and the fastest setting has never seemed as fast as the blower on the Activa.
Is this a short job or is it likely to take all weekend?
David.

Hey David,
Useually the transister speed controller, mounted on the blower itself, only accessable when the motor removed from the housing.
ALSO, a green relay, in the drivers footwell, behind the cover above the throttle the green relay, with "sides" on it..
You'll see which, when you remove the fluffy cover away - directly above the throttle pedal..

Hi.
If the blower is in the same place as my V6 and 1.9TD then look in the passenger footwell the carpeted area below the glovebox conceals the blower, you will need to remove about 6 screws (I think Torx). My V6 has the same intermittent fault which until the weather improves is cured by a hand 'tap' against the carpet cover, I am guessing a poor connection as sometimes depending on how effective a 'tap' you apply the speed of the blower changes..

Well I'm in the workshop at the moment (Thank god for WiFi!) running the Lexia on it whilst I scratch me head!
I can't find the relay with the green sides that Paul mentions, I've taken the motor out and removed the plug from it, everything there looks good, I've checked the plug with the volt meter and there's no power getting to the plug.
Anyone got any ideas where this relay is?
I've got the fuse cover open but can't see a relay with green sides, they are all green with orange bases on them!
I hate this car, the sunroof makes the head lining too low as my head hits it!
Anyone want to buy it!?
David.

Another thing that might be worth mentioning is that the green light on the Air Con switch has gone from having a strong green light on it to a very feint green light.
When really looking at it it appears to be going brighter and dimmer, almost flashing.
It only does this with the engine running, with the ignition turned off the light isn't even on. On my Series 2 Activa the A/C light is on even if only the ignition is on.
It never did this before.
I've tried the relay from the Activa in the HDi and it didn't make any difference, tried the HDi relay in the Activa and it worked. There's a black valeo box beside the motor with a smaller grey plug and a big white plug, I swapped these about and this hasn't made any difference either.
I'm stumped! Must be a fault in the wiring somewhere.
One thing that is puzzling is that the fan always used to get faster when you put your foot on the brakes.

Picture from Adam addo, showing I think the green blower relay at bottom left, as on the Mk II.
The board where the plug goes has two more thick wires going to the motor.
It’s normal to have no voltage on the red wire until the key is set to ignition.
The fan speed increases very slightly when the brake is applied … not an intended feature; probably a reference voltage drop or insufficient earthing, so the black earth wire may be loose at the other end.
The motor brushes may be worn, and a wallop may ‘reseat’ them for a while, as per Ian’s post.
The aircon light is not related, it’s an intermittency in the switch, or the light itself.
Enjoy a Sunday afternoon under the dash.

At 11pm last night I got so fed up with it I resorted to taking the motor out of the dash board on my Activa, the wiring going into the single cable is different but it worked.
The missus is going to have to wear a jacket until I've got the transistors this week to try. If that doesn't work, is anyone breaking a Series 2?
Thanks
David.

I've got also got blower problems sometimes. When i showed it to a mechanic, he noticed some black electrical part (I don't know its name) to be loose causing it to go off sometimes. He tried to fix it. Now it works but sometimes the blower works very powerfully (100%) and sometimes it randomly works at 70 or 80% speed. Any ideas? Do you know what that part is and can I change it to solve the problem? Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Hijacking the thread slightly...
While under the dash (changing the brake pedal switch) on my Mk1 V6, I noticed that I have an empty relay socket where the top RH relay is fitted in the photo. I know Mk1 and Mk2 relays are different, but as my car has most electric options fitted (except the winter pack), I am wondering which relay goes there on a Mk1? Maybe it got lost when I changed the heater matrix about 3 years ago?

Ahh I was vaguely aware of this but it was, as far I know, never fitted to UK-spec cars...addo wrote:It's more likely the LHM pressure alarm! "JGRA" John can describe this, having heard it...
Useful and retrofittable I guess. Reckon I may have the applicable diagrams somewhere.
It works off the security valve switch I take it Adam?
