Xantia Front Strut Leakback Hose

Post by StevieM »

Folks,

Wonder if you can help me.
-
My front nearside strut return hose, accessible in wheel arch (leakback hose?) is beyond repair.
-
having repeatedly cut off approx 1/4" at a time, and now adding some heatshrink to the last 1", I am sure it is going to fail again.
-
Have ordered the hose+metal strap from dealer...should be with me Saturday.
-
May question is this:-
-
How do I tension the new metal strap that goes round the strut?
-
I have some standard pincers...(I obviously don't have a specialist Citroen tool)
-
Any advise for this hose replacement would be much appreciated.
-
Many Thanks, Steve

It is a bit tricky to get the clip on. A good pair of pincers should be good enough to do the job but if not, using the original metal plate attached to the old clip that sits on the rubber foot, a good seal can be obtained using a couple of good cable ties.

Better the clip though.

a pair of pincers is just the right tool, i have a pair of larger pincers i ground the jaws so they have a thinner edge, this allows the jaw/s to sit in the resses of the clip catch's,

i usualy clean the leg then wrap some marsking or insultting tape around the pipe just to stop it moveing whilst i install the clip

Spent 40 mins carefully filing/grinding down my pincers....one Jaw is now at a very acute angle forming a wedge towards the outer edge.
Also ground outer surfece of that jaw slightly.
-
Managed to release the old clip intact.
-
I didn't realise that the rubber "block" end of the pipe does not locate in any guide....there's just a hole, flush in the strut.
-
Cleaned it all up, practiced on the original clip...worked fine...left it in place...no leaks....very happy here.
-
Many thanks for all your comments. Invaluable in giving me the confidence to have a go.

(if anyone is struggling, and wants to borrow my modified pincers, they weigh approx 300g.....postage cost may be prohibitive here, compared to the price of some pincers, but, happy to post them to you, as long as they are returned...just re-imburse my postage cost, in stamps maybe. It'll just save you hacking up yours!!!)

The tool is only £17 available on ebay or from your local motor shop. I have a spare pair for sale (make me an offer if anyone's interested) that's had little use as I recently bought another pair which has an articulated head - great for awkward to get at clips like those on the EGR pipe.
