Relay 2.2 hdi wont start

Post by Burnt Chips »

This is a LWB high top (1800) 2003 model.
Ive done so much work on this and it still wont start.
reconned head, only to cause hole in block where turbo oil pickup is
So i fitted a replacement engine
I then had the dreaded immobiliser key lamp,
I got a replacement ecu also immobiliser module, and the code vial that sits in the key,
These in combo put out the lamp, but its still not attempting to start.
These were off a 2.0 jtd/hdi so i assumed the 2.2 model is different
(as was a D20) whereas my own ecu was a D22.
So i then had my ecu (alledgally unlocked) £80 still no joy and lamp relit
The garage then stated that it may be the immobiliser module £20
another journey to warrington for nothing lamp stil lit
So i found a 2.2 hdi boxer ecu/immobiliser and key for sale in nottingham
£130 puts the lamp out but wont start,
Ive checked the fuel lines and nothings coming down them,
I`m told that theres no secondary pump on the relay, so how does fuel get to the pump for it to start, as the tanks 3mtrs away then filter the pump the fuel rail,any1 any ideas why i cat get fuel up the lines in any quantity.

I have not seen one of these, however some will have a lift pump in the tank or nearby (similar to how petrol engines have one) to merely help supply some fuel up to the engine bay.
Andy.

91 205D-Turbo, gone but still missed
02 106D, TUD5B, gone but not really missed apart from the MPG

A 2.0 HDi on a relay has an electric lift pump in the tank & a high pressure pump driven off the timing belt. The lift pump should come on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on then it should run all the time when you start cranking the engine.
An imobiliser issue will not stop the in tank fuel pump operating.
The tank is under the seats in the van (not 3 meters away ?) & the pump goes in the top of it which can be got at from inside the van without removing the tank.
Im assuming you have checked basics like fuses ??

As a diagnostc check, why not manually feed fuel to the HP pump, and see if it starts then?
