Do Xantia's have a brake pad wear light ?

Post by Xantia2.0 »

The car is a 1998 Citroén Xantia 2.0 EXCLUSIVE. Does it have a brake pad light ? So when the pads get worn it will alert me to get them changed. As there is a soft rubbing sound coming from the front wheels when I brake (due to worn pads I suspect).

Yes, there IS supposed to be a wear sensor feed to trigger a dash mounted
warning light but these feed cables do tend to get severed more likely by wear
and tear rather than poor early years workshop maintenance.

Sounds like the pads have indeed had it!

Yes, but as Andrew says, they are not to be relied upon. They often break away from the pad or the wire gets cut/worn through, some cheaper pads dont come with wires and often people leave them out.

So its always best taking the wheels off and inspecting them yourself.

They are an easy car to change pads on, discs not so much.

At the back you only need a couple of screwdrivers and 10mm (?) spanners. To replace the front you need a caliper rewind tool and some pliers or multigrips.

Note the bleeders should be released just when you're retracting the pistons, then nipped up. One clever bloke worked out the vent pipe on the hydraulic fluid reservoir fits the bleeder nipples, so you can neatly catch the fluid in a jar as it's pushed out.

For Pete's sake, spend the small sum on a rewind tool. Faster, easier, more satisfying.

Both fronts on my S2 are RH thread - contradicts what others have said...

I normally use the remains of the old pad :D

All Xantia front pistons screw back in clockwise.
The rears just push in.

Yep, all the Xantiae and Xm's I've worked on wind the piston in clockwise
using the caliper tool - are you guys saying you don't want to spend £20
to make life easier? :-s

Having previously done it without the tool, and then later with it.

I would rather use the tool, than have a long slow wind up, and you can use it other vehicles too.

Also within a short period of time it has paid for itself with the speed, and convienience.

He said the feed cables do tend to get severed, which they do, he didn't say that your cables would be severed.
He also said that it sounds like your pads have had it and need changing, and your light has come on, suggesting that your pads have worn down and need changing.
