Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Happy new year everyone, as the title suggests, the side light bulbs have been replaced five times (by myself) in the last few months. Changed the off side one two weeks ago then two days later the other went, changed that and its gone again after a week. Wondering if its crap bulbs from Halfreuds(£5.35each). My hand book spec is for capless 5w...

How does this sound? I press me key fob to unlock the car and the boot pops open, so I have to shut the boot before driving. When I stop and switch off the engine and try to open the boot it won't. I have to lock - then unlock the car again and of course the boot pops open and I'm in. Some times the boot pops open when I just open an unlocked...

I just wnted to say thanks to all of the people that tried to help in the situation of the non existant gear box cables for my citoen c5. I have been in touch with citroen who have now ordered me a peugout subsitute part for my car which will be fitted next week.
Needless to say I am ecstatically happy as all of the people at the bust stop saw...

hi, yes it does sound rather insane but I can only come to the conclusion that the rumour I heard was true and that the maker and supplier of this one particular cable had gone bust or citroen would of found a citroen part and not peugeout. Well turns out my newly aquired C5 VTR has a quirk!

When i indicate right it indicates 4 times, then the headlight come on and the indicator stops. If i cancel the indicator the lights go back out.

However if i turn the sidelights or headlights on the indicator works as it should do. So at the moment im having to drive around with my...

They are expensive, i got discount and paid before the VAT increase, so i bet closer to £200 would be about right now.

Its faily simple to fit though, as long as your ok with removing the air bag.

Im not sure how it could be fixed, as its a multiplexed thing im not sure if anything can be done with it.

£200 just to get the indicators working...

Changed out the larger pump seal on V6 today. This seal crosses over to many other vehicle pumps. I had a leak which drips nicely onto alternator.

Ring type Crows Feet and 3/8 ext bar are ideal for getting into this space. I undid the Cambelt cover. First off I drained the LHM tank with my sucker pump (glad I done this).

The threads on the unions are a bit of a devil. I find it best to undo the P clips all the way across right to the accumulator block so the pipes are floppy and then you can hold the pipe at the right angles to screw the pump union in by hand. You know then the pipe is not under any strain at the pump end and more vitally, it's not cross-threaded...

Should the fuel pump prime EVERY time the ignition is on or does it only prime if theres not enough pressure in the fuel line?

The reason I'm asking is in addition to my previous post.

When my car doesnt start, the fuel pump doesnt prime when the ignition lights are on BUT when the key is turned again to engage the starter, the fuel pump fires...

All injection petrols I've owned have always appeared to prime on first turn of the key regardless.

Priming is not the right word really. What happens is this. Ignition on, fuel pump runs for a second or so to build up pressure in the fuel rail even if the pressure is there already; the excess fuel jusy flows back to the tank.

Hi all well i just got a xantia and in traffi the temp gauge goes right up to 110 and when i turn the blowers on only cold air comes out so im guessing that theres an air lock somewhere.So can anyone please tell me how to bleed it all.Thanks

Good morning all,

having a problem with the c5 this morning. None of the dashboard dials are working! The various warning lights are fine but no life from the dials. Any ideas?

Car is a 2002 2.2 HDI Estate (Exclusive SE).

The central sat nav screen works fine.

May be weather related, as it's -5 and lots of snow everywhere but would like to...

Try the connections in the engine ECU compartment towards the bulckhead on the passenger side.

Open it up and pull out the relays and fuses. put them back in and waggle about a bit. This will refresh the connections.

I did this to mine and pulled the multi plugs off the ECU itself.

You could also remake the connections to the pressure sensor...

I've been playing a little game recently in traffic, where the car is in D and I let it creeeeak forward by lessening footbrake pressure. This causes an impressive resonance and sometimes gets other motorists looking around.

What really piques my interest though, is how much noise is transmitted! I'm surmising the strut top mount where it butts...

I have an 04 plate 1.4 automatic C2 furio.
Just recently the front wipers have stopped working and the fromt screen wash has also stopped working.
We have taken this to two garages and one said it was the motors but could not guarantee and the other said they dont think its the motors but would have to link it up to the computer.

Hi Mike, The best FREE way is to remove the unit from the the dash, get all the serial/model number etc off the label...

i've just found the same part number pump, will this need immobiliser replacing too or is it just a matter of swapping?

Yes, you can swap immobilier modules complete from the old, original to the new pump after de-armouring it.

Just before you do though... The old one may be repairable...

One member suggested removal of the airbox to access the joint to manually put it in 'p' mode to start it and have a look at the cable assembly.itrojim replied as follows.....

I shall soon be in the market for four tyres (I've been moving the front and rears around, so they are all pretty well worn to the the same degree).

I did hear that these cars were designed round Michelins - can we have opinions on other makes, and, indeed, on different Michelins?

Hi all, just a little about myself. Motoring for 35 years with well over million miles under my feet. Owned cars from Minis to Mercedes however I have found French cars to be the most robust particularly since Mercedes was taken over in the 90s and the quality dropped.

Another failure point on IR plips is the internals of the button switches themselves.

I've just used a meter to confirm a button switch wasn't working, and changed it for a good switch off a non-working plip. Needs a small soldering iron to do the desoldering, and resoldering - I used a small 25watt iron.

Not yet noticed the location on the one on my Xantia although a poster

I replaced mine when I got the car at 60,000 miles, on the basis of the temperature readings, but I am sure there was nothing wrong with it, the new one behaved just the same. 95,000 miles later, the new one is still behaving just the same.

what are Xantias ilke in snow?

I should imagine that with the weight of the engine over the front wheels, and the soft torque delivery of the TD when off turbo they should be quite good. My 2CV was incredible - one van driver once asked me if it was 4WD after I'd helped a Polo up an icy hill!

Gears on modern cars aren't designed to take so much weight engine braking , you should leave it in high gear and not depress the clutch until you get near stall point though.

Hi all my c5 hdi 110 02 thinks its currently around 40c or 105f outside when its around 1c in reality,is the sensor easy to find and change and does the ecu rely on this reading for fuelling information as it could explain my mpg being around the 40mpg mark rather than a little higher?

Yep, the Outside air temp sensor has nothing to do with fueling or running of the car (did you notice the car running any differently ?).
It can however effect the operation of the A/C.

The dashboard on my 1996 Xantia is getting very dim, if it was a fuse
surely it would be totally dark. Tried turning the reset switch but no difference. Has anyone ever had this problem ?

Our 2001 estate has decided to develop an annoying and difficult to trace running problem.

The engine will run fine for about half an hour and then seemingly loose power, almost as if it is running on three cylinders or in the 'get you home mode'. It will still rev but has a lose of power. The service light is activated during these bouts, but...

Cannot say I agree with you there, CSR, I have found coil packs are more accurate and less prone to breakdown than any form of moving ignition component, whether coil or magneto. Anything that is not dependent on a mechanical system is less stressed and more reliable, especially for the delivery of electrickery. :o

i got a solid crank shaft pulley off a 205 gti that sorted timing issue but now have a new issue i get a grinding noise when i try to engage a gear when i get a gear and let the clutch out the engine stalls any ideas bearing in mind i have put my clutch onto a new bottom end and re fitted the gear box cheers everyone my car does not have a clutch...

Anyone point me towards how to go about sorting iffy starter motor problems on a late V6-24v XM.
Thought there might be similarities with the Xantia that uses the same engine.
Car is well used , 170k but seems to have a reasonable maintenance history.

Hi to all, not posted in a while but I do look in from time to time. Anyway my problem started today when the battery went dead. I managed to get the car going and left it running for a while but when i got in it smelt like something was burning. I cleared the windscreen of snow and tried the wiper's to find they don't work. Dont forget to make sure that scuttle is well and truly sealed in the important areas and check the wiper motor works before the scuttle goes back in place :wink: :lol:

I have a 98 Citroen xantia estate 2.1td the rear suspension will not stay up in the normal driving position, I can move the lever in the car and she will move up and down, but she just will not stay at the driving position, which is making the ride very boucy and uncomfortable, has anyone any ideas what might be causing this?

No its down to a matter of time, as the Levers get wet, and siezure sets in, (also hard ISH spheres wont help as the rear cant move much so the linkage wont be kept moving when the back end goes up and down..) Thats a personal theory of mine..

you can short term over come it, be moving the height lever in the car to the rear, let the back rise,...

The sport selection button (to the right of the steering wheel, looks like a zig zag spring) reduces the thresholds at which the suspension firms up, so you have nice soft ride then when you hit less of a bend than with the button off, the car goes into firm mode.
After 30s of the engine off and the doors closed, the car should go into firm mode.

The most important lights come on with the ignition. Some cars will not have all of the lights working anyway as it depends on the cars options, traction control on some but not others etc.

I want to put some Forte coolant treatment into my Xantia but have some concerns about bleeding afterwards. I think I have a cunning plan.........

Is it Forte coolent system cleaner your wanting to use? Prior to a collent change? Or the cooling system conditioner? If your just wanting to use that my advice would be to put it in with fresh coolent after you have used the system cleaner. Though using it with old coolent should be fine, though its probably worth changing it if its not been done...

Last week I bought a 2002 C5 2.0 16V, runs on liquid gas, fully loaded with leather interior.. I highly recommend this petrol engine, because I am a bit sceptic about older diesels.. they have much higher maintenance costs...

I have been told that the solution to getting my wipers working again is a new BSI. They have done diagnostics checked motors fuses battery and done a reinstall of the BSI software. Nothing has worked he said when the wipers were on it over loaded causing a spike in the voltage and went from the wipers back to the BSI and blew it.

Can i get a BSI...

That comment that a voltage spike was caused by the wiper overload is very doubtful !!
My inclination is that some sort of mechanical problem has been caused by the wipers being forced back into position.

have to change one of the bulbs behind the climate control unit (can't see temp readout) .apparantly there are three .main dealer has given me an exploded diagram ,but it doesn't show how i remove it from console. all ideas greatly appreciated.
p.s the three bulbs cost a grand total of £2.50 inc vat!!!

As it states.......

On our old hack, Xantia 1.9TD the aircon compressor has a naff bearing, the aircon has not worked for years and the noise is getting a bit much now.

This is just a car that I have lying around and am happy to lend to anyone who needs it, (when theirs is in for service), so we do not spend too much time on it, just the basics...

Thanks for the info, the link suggests that a 6PK 1153 is a bit of a squealer, so I would guess that the 6PK 1150 being 3mm shorter would sort this.

Hi all,

As a few of you are aware i have rebulit my Bosch pump.

My question is this what exactly is the role of the wiring which runs through the black plug.

I know wire 1 is the stop solenoid which goes into the immobiliser then to stop solenoid and is earthed on the pump through the bodywork.

What are the purposes of wires 2,3 and 4 :?:

The only thing I noticed with the diagram is it shows a wire running to the Oil pressure switch but when i was checking my wiring to swap over the solenoid I didn't see the wire running to the oil pressure switch.

The pressure on my V6 xantia. Can`t raise it. Having drained LHM tank and renewed a washer on pump my pressure won`t build. Have disconnected main feed and filled the hose 3 or 4 times lifting it as high as it will physically go.

Also opened and closed de -pressure bolt on regulator I don`t know how many times while reving gently. I just cannot...

Hi all,

I have 95 Xantia 1.8i 8v. Pulled up at the petrol station tonight..colour coded fuel flap would not open at all! Even tried gently with a screwdriver - no chance it was stuck solid. Tried spraying De-Icer and WD40 in the gaps - no joy.

Any ideas how to get it open??

You cant access the solinoid in the boot in Early cars - Im sure.

You need to get at it from under the wheel arch, pull out the Arch liner which is tightly fitted and access it that way..

Hi, My 2.0 HDI heater has just stopped heating the car!.
I have checked the water level, checked fuses. The fan now runs at one speed only! Air con light does not come on either?

The motor pictured in the first photo is found just to the left of the centre console above the felt on the underside of the dash, i.e. head in the footwell looking up.

The ECU is located just to the right of the motor shown right up alongside the transmission tunnel, to remove it pull a plastic clip to one side then pull down the ECU.
