Advice needed: Best way to drain diesel from Xantia tank

Post by madscientist »

Hi, prior to disposing of a Xantie 1.9TD I need to drain surplus diesel from the tank. The Haynes manual suggests syphoning but I thought the fuel inlets were designed to prevent or at least make this difficult - any suggestions.

Thanks

Lift up the O/S/R seat base, remove the large plastic bung then undo the large plastic ring (use a hammer and a screwdriver if necessary) then remove the sender unit assembly and you will have clear unobstructed access to the lowest section of the tank to syphon from.

Or do as the dismantlers do, put a bucket underneath and whack the bottom of the tank wth a pickaxe. :D

Or disconnect the fuel line to the pump, extend it and syphon the fuel through that.

Going to give your hand a good work out, but you could always disconnect the hand syphon priming pump under the engine bay.

Took a while, but I did that and filled three fuel cans.

You get into a rythym after a while :D
