Xantia transponder keys

Post by onthecut »

Having read the Citroen blurb about programming transponder keys and remote locking, I think I am less clear than when I started ! So -- in simple terms --- if I have a transponder key that belonged to another Xantia, can I re-program both the transponder and remote functions to work with a different Xantia ?

If on a series 2 then yes Mike, you can but you need a Lexia and the 4 dight security code originally supplied on a "credit card" with a scratch panel when the car was new.

On a series 1 there is no transponder (keypad) but the remote function can be easily programmed to the car with no need of a Lexia.

Not so sure Jim.... on later cars at least programming the transponder chip in the key is a one shot operation. Can't remember if we ever got to the bottom of whether this applies to Xantias or not though... :?

I see I'm not the only one confused by the manual ! Having read and re-read it, I came away thinking that a new ECU has to be initialized and that is a once only process, but keys -- ? As far as I understood, if a new key transponder is being initialized, then all keys have to be done in the same process. Not having done this before, the bit that worries me is getting it wrong and going from one working fob to two useless ones and an unusable motor.

Keys

Post by jgra1 »

I am starting to think that we ought to have an FAQ on this somewhere..
I am constantly confused

for example, I have a spare set of fob keys from an unkown S2 xant, and the collar from it's barrel (and the barrel itself)

I would love to make these keys lock my car (with button) and start the car .. saving my original (service) key for emergency manual door locking

happy to de immobilise car too..

On a S2 Xantia its pretty much a Jim describes, you need the four digit code from either the original 'credit card' that came with the car from new (if lost the can be obtained from dealers) and a Lexia (not sure if Chinese versions work).

Lexia then asks how many keys and how many remote's/plip's are being programmed, then for each remote to be fired upon command followed by each key in turn being placed in the ignition and turning the ignition on, job done.

The remote and key are totally separate items each requiring programming and all key's/remotes need to be done together.

Previously used keys from Xantia's can be re-programmed to another Xantia, I've done it several times.

thanks DG..

so for me, if i can get the 4 dig code.(for my car, not the donor) .... in theory I can reactivate these two keys to open my car remotely, and after changing the barrel over, also get them to start her up.. ?

the code is the key, so to speak, for an s2...

Generally speaking dealers require you to attend in person with the registration document and photo ID to get the code, some charge £15, others give it for free.

thanks Colin, did read that but got a little lost when it seemed I had an I60 chip not a I33 .. as my S2 is a 1999 xant.. not sure what the donor keys were from, an S2 estate exclusive.. but think it may have been an S plate..

anyway, will obtain PIN code and speak nicely to Jim or DG  :D

If anyone wants this done at the CXM Rally give me a shout otherwise I'm more than willing to do it at any other time, it only takes 5 minutes to do.

You Can not re programme transponder chips ! They can only do virgin transponders, That is what the lock smith told me when i had a new key made for my xantia, I have bought an old key which i wanted to use but he said i needed a new transponder chip & blade of course.
