KTC Oil

Post by MPV »

Tesco are selling 15 ltr KTC oil cheap at the moment, but it's GM soya with anti foaming additive. I paid £42 for 45 litres. This frankenoil seems a bit more viscous than rape or sunflower and the additive is silicone based. Car did not like it very much. I could lower the viscosity with some unleaded, but I'm a bit worried about the silicone...if that burns in the engine it will convert to silica...ie sand! I know there are some silicone additves added to ordinary diesel, it caused a major problem when some suppliers got their petrol contaminated with it and it messed up the sensors on the petrol engines. Has anyone else used this oil ok? Any concerns about silica in the engine?

Xac, is that on KTC Frankenoil with the additive? Do you use anything to thin it down?

I found I had trouble accelerating and getting up hills. I changed the fuel filter just in case, but it did not help. Been using Asda £1/litre stuff since and 50% ordinary diesel and it seems ok now.

I think thats just a part of running on veg, reduced power is to be expected.
My cars turbo is more of an ornament so cant pull the skin off a rice pudding.
Although a fuel filter change did help a little yesterday.

That is running at 90% veg tho.

I wouldn't worry about the E900 additive.

When cold first thing it can be a bit lax over 3000rpm
Once hot I have no issues.
I add some diesel in the winter

When I use Asda rapeseed oil you wouldn't notice any difference in power from ordinary diesel and mpg actually goes up a bit. But the KTC stuff made a big difference.

Probably just the lack of turbo on the Xm, The cx performs the same on diesel or veg and its impossible to tell when it switches from one to the other.
