Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I am looking to buy either 2moz, have a 406 but it has been wrote off due to a drunk driver, so i have struggled to choose a new car, but the c5 appeals because of the size but the picasso looks nice too. the ones i have to choose from are a c5, 2.0 hdi lx or a vtr or xsara picasso 2.0 hdi desire or 1.6hdi? thanks for help

I'd take a test drive of each of the models that interest you. You might find that you hate them, or certain ones of them.

Have you looked on Autotrader? There seem to be better prices there than eBay in a lot of instances.
Also the dealer network, I was looking at Springfield Citroen which is my nearest dealer. There are some decent prices there...

I got my AX, the oil is white and the exhaust is smokey so I think it's safe to say the headgasket is blown.

All the engine is back together baring the new Dayco cambelt. I've pushed it, I've pulled it, I've tried every combination of slackening off cam sprockets, shoved the tensioner into the middle of next week, but the belt still refuses to slid over the waterpump pulley. I've even tried fitting the belt on the camsprockets last,...

I bought my first Citroen C5 2.0hdi (2001) back in November and it has been excellent so far, accept for recently when I start it in the mornings it beeps three times the light next to the oil temperature flashes and the STOP light illuminates. This only last for a few seconds as soon as you drive the lights go out and the car drives as normal....

Thanks for the offer but no. If it goes wrong you end up with an expensive repair job on your hands as lots of dabblers have found and one or two pros too. I know of a guy that bricked a new A8, it had to goto the dealers to be fixed. So although I'll risk my own car I won't touch others.

Am trying to top up my Eolys fluid but cannot get any in, have had it confirmed that tank is empty but it wont fill. Have purchased correct kit from Peugeot dealer, followed instructions even searched on line for diagrams but still cannot get fluid in. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

hi,i have a xsara picasso 1.6 (53 plate) with idle problems, erratic or 2k ish revs on tickover.earlier post had replies suggesting stepper motor to be cleaned with carb cleaner.removed it today and couldnt move plunger by hand .

In my experiance these stepper motors very rarely go faulty, 90% of the time a thorough clean of the plunger and the housing it sits in does the trick. I use carb or brake cleaner first then WD-40. you need to get a rag with a screwdriver right into the housing to clean it properly.

Quick question:

I have found a series 1 C5 V6 for sale locally with autobox failure, the car was bought off a Citroen Dealer, which diagnosed the problem as the valve block.

The car has the 4HP20 box. I have a spare 4HP18 box from a XM, will the 4HP18 have suitable parts to repair the valve block on the 4HP20 box?

The headlamp washer system has sprung a leak on my Xantia !!
It's in the middle low down under the grill area. I haven't had time to investigate yet but does anyone know the layout for the tube that presumably connects the two washer jet assemblies together across the front of the car ?. I was thinking there might be a plastic quick connector...

I would make a fair guess that the clutch has been damaged through someone trying to bump start it due to the duff glowplugs/starting issues :twisted:

The tacho bouncing problem, given the engine runs smoothly otherwise will be down to either the needle lift sensor (on injector No.3) or the TDC sensor (on the gearbox bellhousing)...

Hello guys,

got a 200 mile trip tomorrow so I gave the car the once over.

First thing I noticed was a small fuel leak from a small rubber spout coming from the very right hand side of a bosch XUD pump. It's the bit that sites below the mushroom. It's defiantly coming from there as as I pulled the spout off and saw fuel behind it. Does anyone...

nope; not all of them use this fluid, although some models, such as the new Mazda CX-7 do use an additive. From memory, the CX-7 carries much more than Citroen's 5-litres - I think it was around 15.

Models, such as the Volvo V70 2.4-litre (hence a Volvo engine, not the 1.6) gets their cats hot enough, so they do not need an additive.

Sods law, we are due to go away and the Xantia waterpump springs a leak!

This is the latest iteration of the XU7 lump fitted to a 2001 Xantia.

On stripping down the belt drive to replace it and the waterpump, I am perplexed to see that the cams and crankshaft markings are out of alignment to the relevant timing holes. Both the cam sprockets...

Hi, I recently had to lower the back seats in my Xantia only to find under the passenger side the floor was soaking.

Could this be the door seal? Ive had a look at it and it looks alright?
or are there any known problems that can cause water to get under the seat. The floors solid.

How do you know whether it's necesary to clean, flush and replace LHM throughout the system?

Mine (Sept 2000 Hdi90 Forte saloon) has done 50000 miles, one owner main dealer service history to 36000. Dunno if LHM was ever drained and replaced.

Colour of fluid in the tank is pretty bright, clear, fluorescent green. No losses since I've owned it...

The BoL covers it quite well
Set car on low, let it settle, open bleed screw. Engine off, steer full left and right.
Remove the two 10mm nuts at the back of the tank.
Pop out the pipe/filter unit, I use a clean 2lt coke bottle with it's top cut off to protect the unit.
Move the air filter box out the way so you can see under the tank, use a pry...

Engine management light on my 2000 reg Hdi synergie has started to come on and off over last few weeks. Had not really affected performance. For last couple of days its on full time and restricting revs.

I have a 1996 citroen zx 1.9 diesel automatic. I have started to have a problem in the morning and don't know what to do. It takes about 8 turns to start it , it used to take 2 . When it does start it idles rough then stalls. When it has been running about 10-15 minutes this stops and starts running ok. I have checked the glow plugs all seem to be...

hi john, i think i have found the problem it looks like it has become disconnected from the circuit inside the housing around the steering wheel. I think the only way to get to it properley is to take off the steering wheel but im not sure how hard/easy this wound be or if it is pheasable to do???

Hi anybody/everybody..just bought my first Citroen. A Xantia.
Bought the car with a dead alternator with a view to changing it myself.
Now i understand how difficult it will be..Firstly do i have to remove the hydraulic pump configuration that sits on top of the alternator,cant see how i can get it out otherwise..Secondly i cannot quite understand...

There is something wrong then as the tensioner should be able to move with the pivot bolt tight. It runs on needle rollers for this very reason.

Note that new tensioners are very tight on the pivot so be sure this is not giving you a red herring. The spring exerts a heck of a force and should be able to overcome the stiction in a new tensioner....

A couple years ago citroen started giving me onesthat were half the size. Which at first i just used to accept, but oil changes are more frequent than I would like with it. I wonder if the big old one is still available from some place?

Hi all
I have read somewhere that there is a connection between Glow Plugs and DPF Regeneration? - i:e, your Glow Plugs need to be working for the DPF Regeneration to take place, is this correct??

Hello!

We've got a Series 1 V6 24v Xantia which seems to be using an immense amount of petrol.

When you are parking or going round a corner it smells really strongly of raw petrol.

I've had it up on the ramp in the workshop with it running and I can't find anything anywhere that appears to be dripping or anything.

Has anybody experienced this...

In mine, fuel pressure regulator hoses (on top of engine) leaked and
as a solution I replaced clips as seen in pic :wink: Problem solved.

Hi guys

Im having problems with the blower in the car,about a week ago it burst into life on the maximum setting even though it wasnt turned on and hasnt turned off since :cry:

Iv gone through the different settings but it hasnt turned off ,as soon as the car turns over it kicks in..im sick of been cooked in the car :grr:

As I say, all this entails removing the pump complete. It can be done without disturbing the cambelt provided the pump sprocket has two index holes but you will need a special puller to break the sprocket from its taper.

Unfortunitely the DW8 is not like this & does need the timing belt to be disturbed.

My Activa project is a non-aircon model and consequently has a resistor pack for blower speed control. None of these silly transistors :lol:

The blower was not working and this was found to be caused by the thermal fuse in the resistor pack going open circuit. Bridging the fuse brings full and perfect functionality.

I've never heard of one of...

That's a Xantia for you. Once basically sorted they soldier on for ever. As you say, though, they keep going and going but the list of needed jobs on them steadily grows.

I seem to remember reading in posts that some jobs on the 2.1 are less 'easy' than on the 1.9 - it would probably need a cam belt change as well as a set of new spheres (no problem apart from the £150 or so) and an LHM flush.

How hard is the cam belt to do on a 2.1 given that the S2 bodyshell is that bit wider?

I have a Xantia with something of an ongoing problem. It's ridden hard a few times since I got it, a sphere change always fixed that though. Diagnosed by feeling which corner was hard . Then the pressure regulator sprouted a leak and ticked a lot, at the same time as riding quite badly and handling that just doesn't feel right . Dad's a...

If you do change spheres, this guide may be useful, especially for the rears as they can be very tight and need a procedure to be followed.

Sounds like your tool is well up to the job :D Sometimes they can be so tight a big hammer and cold chisel is the only way :twisted:

Hi, wondered if any body could help regarding the viabration I get at about 35 to 40 mph in my C5. It comes at about that speed, I can excellarate through it and its as smooth as silk at all other times.I wondered if anyone might of had a similar fault?

2002 makes it an early one. There were a lot of problems of the kind you describe on early C5's resulting in much work being done generaly on warranty on the rear suspension. It might be worth going into your local Citroen dealer Tates? and ask them if your car has had all the suspension mods done, they will have records of any work done on your...

Got a problem with the lighting on my C5. When the lighting switch is turned to the first position:
Numberplate light on, dashboard is lit and the 'lights on' sounder is working.
But both sidelights are off.
Both rear light are off.

A lighting board plugged into 12N socket gives lit rear lamps.
Headlights work both manually and on auto. Also...

I would be getting your cambelt done ASAP, given that there is an 03 plate HDi C5 for breaking on ebay due to its cambelt snapping at 72K miles! Its not really worth risking.

Hi all,
Although not new to the forum, this is my first post.

A friend of mine has an 02 Plate Picasso 2.0 Hdi 90 with 87k on the clock.
It starts from cold without any problem and will run ok but as soon as he stops it it will not start for at least 15 mins, then its ok again.

He had a diagnostic done which indicated a problem with the crank...

Have to open this one up again as the problem has re-occurred.

My mate had the Cam sensor fitted and all seemed well but over the weekend he took the car for a run that got it nicely warmed up and when he stopped he had to wait for an hour before it would start again.

My Xantia 2.0 petrol turbo - back wheel level has dropped by several inches. I can raise etc no problem but during driving it drops too low and the back springs around making driving difficult and uncomfortable. How can I set the default setting up a few inches
