O noes! weird problem!

Post by aerodynamica »

I noted walking away from the Xantia that there was a PROBLEM. after locking the doors (can't recall if I activated the deadlocks) I saw that the indicator lights on one side of the car were stuck on permanently.. I feel this is an issue that's been discussed in the distant past.

Unlocking and locking resolved it but what happened? And is it heading for some mad catastrophic pack-up?

Something to do with the alarm/immobiliser I would think.

It sounds like the alarm box (located under the N/S/F seat-has to be removed to gain access to the alarm box) may be the cause, these commonly suffer from water ingress due to water leaks which then congregate in the N/S floor pan. As your car is an early one you should have a key lock on the windscreen scuttle to turn the alarm off, worth trying as a quick simple fix.

I'm in agreement with you on this Richard... Given your recent fitment of an en-suite shower into it Graeme

I think it's time you got those carpets up and had a look. As a test, whilst the alarm box is drying out, the car will run happily without it. The only noticeable thing is that the courtesy lights will stop working as the alarm box controls their fade up/fade down...

Also check the big electrical connectors under the plastic plate in the corner of the passenger footwell for water ingress...

Hi folks cheers, well I'm a great believer in "let's see if the problem goes away on its own if it's electrical and if it started on its own" philosophy. So I ignored this episode after it went away and didn't return.

But TODAY! it cam back! This time it wouldn't resolve by switching the locks off and on via the remote (and hence, switching the alarm on and off) - the LH 3 indicators were all perma-ON. RH indicators operated as they should but the hazards wouldn't operate: the hazard button served only to make all the indicators come on and not flash..

After examining the wiring layout for the hazards and indicators I wondered about relays etc. The alarm seemed to operate. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it to find that the LH lights came back on as before. Repeated this and upon reconnection, the alarm went off (headlights flashing but siren off) Key in and alarm override button and it appears to have resolved it for now. So I think you're right, it's the alarm box. I'm now bypassing the alarm and finding that it's not doing it now but will be getting at the box under the seat ASAP..

Cheers for the help folks!
