VSX Turbo TC advice please.

Post by Stepto1 »

Some of you may have seen a green VSX Turbo TC recently for sale on this forum. Well I wen ahead and handed over 300 quid for it and a boot FULL of spares!

My concern is this. It's quite a bit rougher then discribed. I knew it needed a new wing and general tidy up but it also needs:-
The other wing.
Bonnet.
Rear door.
Tracking doing. (pulls like mad and doesn't track straight. Accident damage).
Indicator stalk changing.
Air filter mounting. (Currently secured with a bit of net curtain).
Front and rear height correctors not working right. Think the rods to the antiroll bar have been damaged.
Hydractive doesn't appear to work.
AC doesn't work.
Heater/rear window not working. (knew about that).
Doesn't always go into reverse.
Smells of fags.

What should I do? Is it worth spending time/effort/money on?
Steve.

Apart from the body items, most of those listed are the useual "Xantia Weakness" Parts and are common failiures...

The heater and rear window is likely the ignition switch, in which its needing the Relay Mod dooing..

Height correctors could also be just siezed linkages which are a huge common problem.. but freeable with time..

ASSUMING it has a BE box, and is not an ML box. Most BE gearboxs have a "selecting Reverse" issue, I find with the clutch down goto 5th first then striaght down to Reverse and they useualy go everytime...

Indicator stalk - Theres S1 stalks and S2 stalks.. S1 stalks have the horn on the end.. S2 ones DONT... they look identical though.. useually around 30 quid...

1. Rip the egine out and sell it to the Saxo / 106 brigade.
2. Weigh the rest in.
3. Buy a decent HDi

1 and 2 will probably pay for the original outlay. 3 will save you a small fortune in reduced fuel useage!

Bit of a mission, by the sound of it. How does the underside look on a hoist?

Minor collision damage can usually be pulled out by a skilled panel shop without the need (especially in a low budget environment) for lots of dismantling/repainting. However a lot of people can't be arsed with this; as a result the geometry is always a compromise.

Thanks for that guys. It's got an LPG kit and does pull like a train. Even with a bootfull of spares it pulled away from 70mph with no problem in 5th on gas! It's had a leather interior fitted too. The engine is said to have been remapped and a non standard ECU fitted.

Right. Had a look over it again today and it's a shed. Does anyone want anything off it before it goes for scrap?

Black leather. Looks good. Not electric. In Nottingham or Plymouth.

I'm near Nottingham.

LPG kit. Can be seen working. Tank replaces spare wheel.
ECU. Standard and chipped/mapped ECU (200bhp the seller said, it is quick)
Loads of spares, what do you need?

Steve.

Oh dear. Sorry to hear this Stepto.

I see the vultures are circling  There's nothing I can think of my Harris Hawk wants. If it had been a very late MKII 110 HDi then it would have been a different story...

Chris, You may need the ECU if you plan on having the gas kit. They may be inter-linked.. I'd have it all quite frankly...
