Xantia 1.9TD 1996 throttle closed switch - What does it do?

It's just a micro switch on a plate fitted to the top of the injection pump and is activated when the throttle is released (closed).

Only two positions. Open or Closed.

It's snapped of a few times.

The last time I've just left it off.

What can it be doing on a mechanical injection pump?

hi Romie.. it should cut the power to the glow plug post heating, switching that off.. I.e. the car thinks if you are accelerating that much, there is no point having the glows on

But I see the glow plug illuminate for the sameish amount of time with it dangling off and it left open all the time?

ahh you see, the GP illum light only shows the GP Pre heating so that is not affected by this little blighter... the post heating goes on without you knowing when it will start or end

if the switch is open, then in theory you wont get much preheating, if it is permenantly closed, then the pre heating should instead get shut down by the coolant temp (60°)

Funnily enough I've had a slight problem starting on these very cold mornings and was putting it down to purely battery charge issues alone.

Randomly I mentioned that little switch as I was just curious to what the hell it did.

no probs romie..

mine is just struggling a little on about 90% veg.. but compared to how it is normally with a few glows dead, it's positively great!

I have to get ready to add a bit of throttle, once she catches, and keep it fast idleing for 20 seconds.. then it is usually ok...
