C5 stereo help?

Post by fat_controller »

Hi everyone - just joined today to try and get my "new" 2001 C5 2.2 Exclusice estate up to scratch!

First thing to sort out is the stereo, as I'm getting sick of the same 5 CD's :(

The CD player in the dash, and the CD multichanger both work fine. Can't get any signal on the radio side of things though. The aerial is working fine, as I took the radio out of a colleagues C5 hatch and plugged it in mine - radio worked and tuned in fine (despite the annoying beeps!).

Question is then - my head unit is a PU-2380B. Most of the radios for sale on Ebay seem to be the PU-2295A.

From the photos, they LOOK to be the same - but are they interchangeable from car to car? I know I'll have to get it vin coded, but will the 2295 work OK in my car and whats the difference? I know I need the (Clarion?) set, rather than the VDO.

Thanks for any help - just the first of many jobs to get sorted!

Regards,
Lee.

Hi, welcome to the FCF :)

Ive got a C5 radio in the garage which doesn't play the radio anymore, might be a common thing! Usually the on/off button fails on those too.

The correct one for your car ... im not sure of the difference, didn't know there were two. Perhaps one is for cars with satnav? Just a guess.

Yes I've gone through this route purchased a secondhand radio on E-bay and while it's better than the one I took out it's not a patch on the Traffic Pro of similar vintage I have gathering dust, and I don't expect it to last long.
I have come to the conclusion that the Clarion radio's are another superb example of value engineering guaranteed to not last longer than five years,
As regards replacing it with a different model the important thing is to make sure that it talks VAN bus not CAN bus, that should be the case with the majority of Citroen / Peugeot radios up to 2004.
I believe that any Clarion radio manufactured before 2004 is probably on borrowed time and If I keep mine for much longer I will investigate the possibilty of an aftermarket radio and the data adaptors required to enable it to talk to the rest of the car but I fear that it may not be possible to find a totally satisfactory solution,

Thanks for the help chaps.

Suggesting the 2472b led me to a quick search for others, and found:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C5-C4 ... 2eb9eb7640" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The blurb says it doesn't need coding, and will work with any car it's connected to. Anyone knw just how true this is, and does the bleep free last more than the few months of guarantee?

Thanks,
Lee.

It has to be coded to a new VIN. It works without re-coding to a new VIN it think it is stolen and makes some beeps with some interval.

Just go the aftermarket route. A fascia adaptor is £10, the Connects2 wheel control interface is £30 on eBay, takes 15 minutes to fit tops. Done both mine and my friends 04 C5 estate with no problems.

As said this is the best option, I have done te same as I wanted to play songs from a usb stick. Got a stereo with usb input on the rear and have the lead hidden under the steering wheel. Not keen on the radios with usb sticks sticking out the front.

Question re Connect 2. 1 does it take all the stalk functionality and 2 Does it allow the display of radio data on the "Computer Display"?

My Alpine Head unit has a rear USB lead and an iPod connection on the rear as well. I ran the iPod lead through to the glove box and leave my iPod locked away in there. The Connects2 interface allows me to control the iPod as well as the radio, cd, usb options via the column stalk.
