Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi there,

l have a C5 2.2 HDI estate 2000 model

it runs fine but every now and then, more so when towing, a warning comes up unblock deisel filter and some times its desiel adertive low ,
according to the hand book this should be taken to a dealer (ouch)
any one any ideas how to remedy these faults? are they lincked at all?

That depends on the garage, these cars really require a high degree of specific knowledge to service them, many problems are caused by garages who think that they are...

the wipers dont do a thing unless you pull FS1 then the vdash lights and indicator dont work, and the wipers sort of work intermitently,

were in on the DIS LEXIA do i find anything to do with sortting this out,
as a auto lecy say my machine should be able to sort it out because it is probably a software fault,

he ended up re/programing the wiper control,

Ok a big thanks to Gingerposer for sending me some new globes so thanks mate :D
I have removed the pulled the instrument panel out and have left all the wiring in place. This has allowed me to flip it upside down and I've started to replace the bulbs. There were more blown than I had thought .... Can somebody tell me what the bottom line of panel...

The central locking on my xsara progressively stopped working until the doors now no longer lock at all. The central locking key locks them but they immediately unlock as if there is a problem with the contacts. I took the car to my local garage who couldnt figure out the problem. They said they had the doors and panels off to no avail.

I've got a problem with the 2.1 SX I bought.

The height corrector mechanism was seized and the dog bone had popped off. My dad removed the mechanism and it is now free to move and well greased up. However the actual hydraulic part seems to be seized, or at least very sticky, I think there's history of an LHM change, but that was a few...

Well the time has come when the front O/S wheel bearing has gotten as bad as I will drive it with. My 'spares' Xantia now has a Saxo (not mine) for company. It's an S reg automatic with a dead auto-box - taxed, long MoT, tidy little car with not a lot of miles on it. What shares the same box and how difficult would a swap be? Always supposing a good s/h box could be found?

Spot-on Andy, it's the Renault MB3 and they're not known for their long, reliable lives...

I believe it was/is on small Renaults (Clio nad so on) but not sure of interchangeability with the Saxo.

I don't know what fails in them but reports I've had is that they're toast when they go, literally. Clutches seem to burn up.

The larger (o/s) portion of the 60/40 split rear seats on my Xantia estate is jammed in the down (horizontal) position. No amount of pulling will release it - the seat belt itself is holding it, and will not release.

I've searched around for a solution, but can find nothing specifically Xantia, although it seems to be a common enough problem on...

I remember noticing that plastic button thing on the belt - so that's the way to stop it in the future: maybe drill a hole in the button and insert a small nut and bolt should stop it happening again.

I assume, CitroJim, that you used the same method as the other guys, with a 17/18mm wrench on the mounting bolt to free the anchor plate?

I have a strange problem, i think its the starter motor at fault but not sure.
Symptoms.

You can get in the car and put the key in the ignition, and start the car. yet if you then turn the engine off you run the risk of not being able to start it again. you can turn the key all the way, you get a click as the solenoid clicks, dash lights all...

Starter motor came off the car yesterday, took it apart and cleaned out the 19 years of crap build up, put it back on the car. and so far everything is looking good.

Now just have to trace the reason its not liking to start straight away.

ok,my local garage says both fans in front of radiatir are knackered. I tried cleaning the contacts on the relays just in front of radiator but im still getting temp light flashing and stop light flashing with it when i turn the heaters on,and it appears neither of the fans are coming on.....is it a big job to change these and are they expensive...

Hi Colin,

A second or two of low speed always comes before the fans go to high speed.
That goes by switching on the top right low speed relay first, then the other two together.

No experience with the Mk II, so my guess :) is that the ECU senses that the low speed relay coil doesn’t carry current, and goes to temperature alert.

I had someone buy a Xantia TD with 100k on it, gearbox appeared fine untill I fitted a new Clutch!!!

I then to my horror after re fitting the Box 3rd gear crunched!! So badly, double de clutching didn't make a difference!!

So, yes, I had to swap the box for another one...!

My Xantia TD with 234k has still the original box from what I can tell....

In my experience sometimes you meet a parts dept guy who knows what he's talking about, but most of the time they have no clue, and try to fob me off with Total AFT which is a red Dexron 3 based fluid, however if your insistent they usually 'find' the correct fluid.

Starter motor might have a cold stamp on the body.
I found out product code of mine with the aid of a digital camera 8-)

Now I know that it is a Bosch model (from their website--> 1.4kW and it has 9 tooth).
So starter motors can be different :)
I don't know much about diesel models but I guess they have more powerful starter motors.

This year the Xantia failed (first time ever) due to no movement in nsf suspension. This was the only fail item on the MOT printout.

Hi all, I have a Citroen ZX that has a few bulbs out behind the speedo. I've looked at a few forums to see how best to sort these out. Now I can get to the two screws without having to take off the steering wheel shrouds, so I think that will be the easy part. I am worried about the speedo connection though. Also while I think about it. The front pads and discs are nearly ready for a change. Is there a better BOLT ON product than the standard 1.9 Reflex brakes? I'm running the stock wheels as well (13 inch) ... I don't want to make any modifications other than to just bolt on if you get my point :D

I think I'll give that a go then, I kinda wish I hadn't just put on new tyres and calipers and I could have gone up to a 14 inch tyre, Volcane rims and probably a Volcane disc as well.

While playing with my Lexia I found a fault in the injectors section saying the fan does not spin at low speed (forget exact error)
I did the actuator test, I can make the fan spin at high speed, but not a low speed.
I presume its the dreaded 1.6HDi fan relay problem. Can someone tell me where these relays live? Can you jsut yank them out and...

It went to the dealers Yesterday, and they told me the car only has one speed programmed into it, and that speed is working.
Wonder if there is a word they use for people with pretend Lexias inventing faults?

Hi all
As the nights are drawing in i have noticed i have a couple of bulbs out the first is the clock,i looked in the haynes manual how to gain access and it seemed very long winded is there a simple way to do it ?
also can i replace the back light bulbs for the dash clocks as the temp gauge one does nt work ?

UNFORTUNALLY, being a Series 2 car, its a bloody stupid idea to combine the clock in with the trim, thats now turned one piece!!

So, no theres no quick easy way, its steering cowls off (Wheel can stay on!!) plastic trim to the right, on the dash, off, so you can get at the 3 fixing screws, then its radio out, to get at the remainder 3 or 4 screws...

I think that we need to clarify things here you talk RH / LH side of the car but it is not clear to me if that is RH as sitting in the seat or RH as looking in from the front.

However the high pressure pipe from the pump to the steering valve is a one piece pipe. The low pressure pipe running down the LH side of the car from the steering valve...

I've noticed more and more that when starting, when cold, there is a heavy lump when it starts. I don't notice it when the engine is warm.

Any ideas what this might be?

Car is from year 2000 and has done 55000miles, good service history.

Could it be one of the fuel filters, oil filter or thick/old oil?
I found a vast improvement when mine started doing this by getting a service done.

Long journey tomorrow. Washing car today and noticed, near the bottom of the front of the nearside rear wheelarch, a square patch, a bit like a black plaster. It had raised away from a white plastic plug underneath and came away when I touched it.

I think you're asking about the body shell plug which I also have first seen on a scrap car.
If it's a square shaped plastic then it should be item called
ENTR POST PLUG 48,4X48,4 and it has even part number as 96 130 325 :)

edit: in mine it's hidden under a thick layer of underbody coating.

Hi i'm new to the forum, I own a 1999 citroen xantia hdi 110 which has done 114k.
My question is for a friend of mine who owns a very early 1.9td xantia (aug '93, it's a sinker!) which has done 172k.
He bought the car in march this year for £300 and in the last six months has spent around £1500 on various things to keep the old girl on the road....

hi could you help me i have a xantia sx 98 i have found the part shown in picture hanging back of engine with pipes off can anybody help with what this is and dose were it fits to and pipes go to ect the car starts and runs fine but

The bracket that the electrovalves are on is fixed in place by the left hand nut at the back of the LHM resevoir.

One electrovalve (I believe the blue one) goes to your EGR so leaving it disconnected...

Can anybody tell me what the correct torque wrench setting is for the three bolts holding the starter motor on, on a ZX 1.9D (XUD)? It's not in the Haymes manual for some reason. The bolts are M10 x 1.5mm threads.

There's one bolt that's longer than the other two. service.citroen shows it as being at the bottom, however I kept the bolts threaded into the starter, when I took it off, and I've got the bolts in different positions. I suppose I could have got them mixed up. I'll assume the...

Well, FWITW, without looking back at other threads, it seems perhaps there are two methods of failure, disintegration of the dome, and disintegration of the flange. Maybe one leads to the other?

Nick had terminal trouble with the dome.

Whilst neither of my S1's top struts failed in spectacular fashion, I replaced the nearside 18 months ago, and...

I used my Sons 2.1 today. He told me that ''after starting and when the big STOP light goes out you have to pump the brake pedal a few times or you won't have any brakes'' I duly followed his instructions and when I got to the 'pedal pumping' stage the STOP light gave a few flashes and all became normal! A friend of a friend lost the ignition key to a Xantia 1.8 petrol. I think he has got one from a dealer but it will not allow the engine to start.

I think the starter turns over but perhaps the ignition needs a signal from the transponder in the key?

How can you get around this?

Any help greatly received!

After about 3 weeks of flawless Citroen-ing I went out to the car this evening and was greeted firstly by no central locking and then by a clicking from the starter motor! Hi all

The drivers interior door handle has snapped off, have ordered a replacement so will only have to open door through the widow for a couple of days!!!!

Does anyone know where i can get some instructions on how to fit the handle, or can some nice kind person tell me in easy steps

hey all

replaced the door handle yesterday, and i can honestly say it wasn't as bad as i thought

the hardest part was prising the bloody clips around the door trim open, jeeze u need muscles lol

the handle just hooks onto the door frame, so once the trim was off, it took bout a minute to fit the handle,

Has anybody used a Facom DM.16 Belt Tension Gauge, particularly on an XUD? I've bought one to check the cambelt tension on my ZX 1.9D. The instuctions are just pictures, with almost no words. See here for a pdf:-

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realise that the instructions say to put the belt on at max allowable tension to start with. Then readjust the tension after 5000 km to the middle of the range. my xsara hdi keeps running when the key is removed from the barrel and all the dash lights stay on too i thought it must be the barrel but as soon as i stall the car the dash lights go out also

No, I'm not being obsessive!

I've eventually got round to replacing the seal over the O/S doors that apparently ripped when it froze to the rear door (before I had the car).

I've found with other cars that the cure for doors sticking to the weather seals on frosty nights is to thoroughly wax polish that part of the doors and the tailgate/hatch...

im on my 4th xantia now and seem to spend most of my spare time putting things right why do we do it what have they got that keeps us hooked, if i had a brain id buy a passat and be bored on weekends !! my wife and brother and mates all say the same thing god has it gone wrong again ? get rid, but i cant i love it and cant put my finger on why...
