Side light bulb's (Update)

Post by Alec B »

Well I've finally changed them. It ended up being a bumper off job as I just could not get either in, even the nearside with the battery out! The reason the nearside wouldn't go in was because some numpty replaced the bulb but didn't push it all the way back in so it melted the holder. I managed to clear the hole with a dremel. With the headlights out I couldn't belive how easy they were to fit. Also to be safe I fitted new Dipped + Main beam bulbs (all Osram extra life bulbs) so that I didn't have to do them later on! Even doing these other bulbs was a pain and would never have been done in situ. Good luck to anyone doing this job!!!! 8-[ =D>

Good job getting the bumper off, mine stumped me, even armed with the Haynes BoL!

Ive done many sidelights on C5IIs and a few headlamp bulbs now, all in situ and in a matter of minutes

Maybe I should make a video of it next time

C5IIs are worse for bulb changes than the C5I, which are a bit of a fiddle and when I first did one it required some shouting

Try a headlamp bulb change on a ScenicII

YES PLEASE :-D

The only thing is you need 2 people to remove and 3 to refit. When all unscrewed it slides forward DON'T pull the sides out as they have locating clips that will break if pulled away from the wings.

Although it seems owning a Renault could be even worse

I had a C5 11 in for Sidelights a while ago and the bulb holders were melted very badly. The car had Xenons, and the Citroen system said sidelight bulb holders not a liable for Xenon lights. New lamps were loads of money.
I took a Chance and ordered bulb olders for the non hid option, and thankfully they were the same.
Still pricey at around £30 per holder.

Except they will break the fittings, fit the bulb upside down ( headlamps) etc etc, they do it's near to my garage, so I know . [-X

When a sidelight bulb went on my C511 less than a year from new, I took it to Halfords. The guy referred to his computer and said they don't do that model. I tried myself for what seemed like hours. Eventually I removed the bumper. 18 months later it was necessary to remove it again. At the third time I decided to fit LED side bulbs and they are lasting well.

I knew a woman who could remove her bra without unbuttoning her blouse.

Talent like that, could probably be more generally employed to change difficult bulbs without bumper removal.

Which LEDs did you get? I bought some on ebay for a cooker hood and within 10 mins of being switched on they had melted and were about 1 min away from catching on fire so I'm wary about which ones to buy, I would like to get good quality ones.

Do they give a pure white light?

I got some but they were more blue and illuminated less of the sidelight shape, so I took them back out.

I have a C5II and the sidelight bulbs have never worked. Would it be possible to fit an LED strip to the stock bulb holder. It would be a far more effective method of illumination, compared to having one bulb at the top of the headlamp?
