Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi Guys

Well after several hours under and over the C5 virtually all the faults have now disappeared off of the lexia all I have left is a post heat fault and intermittent downstream cat temp fault. But the gearbox problem persists I have got rid of the engine torque regulation fault that was showing under the ABS and the speed faults.

My C3, after staying on the driveway for a couple of weeks (and cold weather), refused to turn the engine on one morning. I suspected the battery, so charged it (I thought) and tried again. It displayed the dash and snowflake to me, instead of the gear number. I could not change the gear to N. The car was in the 1st gear, so I could not move it...

I recently replaced the seals in the top of my Lucas pump on my 1994 Xantia 1.9d. I thought I'd got away with the job without replacing the top cover gasket. However, looking at the pump over the weekend there seems to be a small amount of diesel seeping from the top cover.

Right, this is getting silly now. I'm about to change the cranshaft pulley on my 2.2 yet again. It was knocking when i bought it so i replaced with an aftermarket one bought from a well known motor factors, 8 months down the line this started knocking so i thought i'd replace with an OE Citroen pulley (£115!) :shock: now 14 months down the line...

if it's any consolation, on my old 2.0 8v i replaced 3 times as many pulleys as belts, regardless of how much they were.
the shortest time one lasted was 4000m, around 4 months if i recall, replaced under warranty but still a pain.

The diagnostic socket has as I remember it's own power feed via a fuse, don't know more than that would suspect that no fuse no power for the Lexia interface.

That's a really good point - it could be that there's no power at the diagnostic socket due to a blown fuse or wiring fault. The following page shows the pinout for the OBD-II socket:...

No don't do that yet, Coastline's quite right in that it's straightforward to do - if you're ok with laptops etc, if not have a read up on it anyway first. There's always plenty of us here who've done the job and (hopefully) offer useful advice.

Hi guys have removed the dpf from my C5 this afternoon, I have drilled out all of the filter material from it, but before I bolt it back on I was just wondering if I need to remove the stuff from the bit left on the car? or is that something else?

C5 Power Steering

At 06.00 yesterday I tried to move my C5 off the drive but it was impossible to turn the steering wheel. Used my wife's car and when I returned in the evening tried it again and it was fine. Only difference was -7c in the morning against -2c later.
Same thing this morning, except this time the dashboard display warned me of a power steering fault....

Mine was doing this too; it was the battery.
Put a new one on last month and it started fine at -7c. Noticed the cranking was much quicker and strange post-starting happenings (Power Steering fault, CD player starting up and ABS/ESR faults) vanished.

It is a long time now since I've been inside a Lucas DPC and I've forgotten a lot of details but generally they will only assemble one way and I'd say what you say is absolutely correct.

Quick word of advice, please, regarding my Xantia (W reg (2000), HDi estate, 170,000 miles)..........

I've noticed that the steering wheel makes a slight but distinct twitch to the left when the car goes from cruise to overrun.
There's no discernible change in direction.

I'm thinking this is likely to be the P bushes on the nearside (??)....

If the new bushes are not very carefully aligned on fitting Andrew, they will have a very short life. The need for careful alignment is not generally known about by non-specialists as it's not obviously required. Mis-alignment strains the rubber and shortens its life...

This has been playing on my mind a short while now. My mum has a Y reg 2001 HDi 110 LX Xantia. It showing on the clock a milage of 128k which as we should know is not quite run in.

the car was bought off Ebay from up here.. unfortunally no history. I thought though, no probs only 117k when bought.

i fitted a new matrix, stupid thing fits up into the bottom of the heater box end way upwards and the in and out pipes at the bottom end,

i have tried bleeding every which way i can imagine,

upside down 2lt pop bottle on header tank, and unbolting...

well got to the bottom of this orible car turned out to be the SAAB valve, this is a 1 way valve in the octapussy of pipe work down the back of the engine,
it has a rubber diaphragm which the center falls out of so the valve fails,

And what watt should they (3 bulbs) be, I know they're capless, I got 3 in Maplins the other day but they're very dim and you can hardly see it......but...

water noise behind dash on Xsara

Hi,

I just picked up my new Xsara.

It was frozen over, so the garage started it up and left it running while we were doing the documentation.

I then drove it over to a side road a 100m away to gather my bearings etc, still running, I then drove about 1 mile to a petrol station.

When I turned it back on there was a water running, gurgling noise...

This morning there was ice on the car, but the windscreen inside was bone dry.

But after putting the heat on it get pretty clouded and wet. But it did clear pretty quickly.
On the drive to work it wasn't bad at all but the rear windows were a bit clouded.
I am hoping the car just needs a bit of drying out.

Hi guys. Having found out the hard way that Fred has an immobiliser (after nearly 6 years to my shame) I want to see if my insurance could be cheaper. So, do I just say factory fitted or is there a category? It's just the standard immobiliser with the key talking to the fuel pump. Thanks!

Hi,

I went off to Combined Motors in Northampton this morning to run the MOT gauntlet.

(It's a 2001 Mk2 Citroën Xsara Estate 2.0 HDi Auto).

Sadly it failed on a n/s/f track rod end ball joint and more concerning the handbrake which only managed an 11% efficiency (the limit is 16%).

wet boot in Xsara from rear screen

I found the boot carpet foam was a bit wet. After an inspection I noticed the rubber seal on the outside of the rear windscreen was off a bit in one corner.
Also, where the rubber seal end points join, just near the wiper, one is out of kilter a bit.

What is the best way to remedy this? Not sure I want to remove glass etc.

My old black XM had a bit of a crease on the rear corner panel, the paint had fallen off due to the crease but there is no rust. That damage was done about a year ago.

It's still there :oops: and looking as fresh as the day it happened...

All I've done is spray some protective wax on it until I can get to sort it properly when the weather is...

Although there is enough room across the back seat of my 2002 C5 estate for 2 booster seats and a baby seat, they are very close together and the older kids can't put their hands between the seas to click the seat belts in. Which means that I have to and it bloody hurts!!
I've seen on tinternet some extenders which look like they could be ideal....

hi all can any one tell me if the C5 key fobs have batterys inside them, and is it a wise to swop the keys around i.e.use the original for a couple of months then use the spare for a couple of months...... as some cars have a master key that you have to use every couple of months just to keep the cars ecu and imobiliser right

Yes, they do have a battery in them. Me personally i use the scabby remote with no symbols on the buttons whilst my spare sits in the drawer pristine and unused. Occasionally i will point the spare remote out of the window at the car to make sure it still works... :yes:

Water always flows through the matrix.
The heat control just directs air across it for heat.

Yes, but and just a small but. They can leak a little through summer and due to the design of the heater box and flaps you'll not smell it as all air is well diverted around the matrix. As soon as you slide toward the warm end of the dial the air will pass through the matrix and you may get a whiff of finest curry for a short while...

Braking problem with C5

Hi all,

Not sure if this is common with C5.

When I brake at the traffic light, the car will produce a clunk noise (sound like gulk) and I can feel that the car is like jerking backward. Something like when firing a riffle with a recoil (jerking) :-D .

After changing the Front and Rear brake pad, I don’t experience noises when braking anymore.

When changing the brake pads, I asked the Mechanic to find the braking problem.

Then we realized that the jerking effect is due the right lower arm bushing. When I brake, the wheel actually jerked!

Comma do make lds for the later Citroëns i bought some a few weeks back.Why they make it green like the old lhm is a bit stupid if you ask me.

Hi experts,

I need to clear the Antipollution fault on my C5 (2.0 petrol)

I got a chinese Lexia 345, installed it and connected to my Citroen.
Initially it looks good . But when I go to Diagnosis - Power unit - Engine
I see the following :

BSI YES NO
Instrument panel YES NO
Switch module at the steering wheel YES NO
Injection YES ?

citroen dispatch (06)headlight bulb removal

as any one any idea how to remove the headlight bulb ,does the black connector just pull off as mine seems rather tight and i dont want to break it ,the problem i have is my main bulb keeps going out i have a feeling the bulb is not fitted correct because with a wiggle from the back and it comes back on ,any info would be great

Block connector should just pull off. Common issues for intermittent bulbs are bulb incorrectly fitted (look for tab on bulb and slot inside light fitting for correct way up) also poor earth wire on lights and also loose wires on plug where previous owner has pulled out using the wires and not the plug.

C5 rear suspension half knackered

Wife was driving home tonight and the rear end just dropped down to the lowest ride height.
I can raise to maximum at both front and rear and the next lowest height but anything lower,ie normal ride height, just goes to minimum, but only on the rear.
I've had it parked for a couple of hours now and at max height and it hasn't dropped since while...

Sorted.
Took the car to my local garage and they scratched their heads and couldn't find anything wrong. They suggested a local motor electrician.
Whipped it up on the ramps and I immediately saw a broken link rod between the 2 spheres under the rear crossbeam.
Had read about this only a few hours ago and a quick fix mend of binding the bits...

So for starters i can't find towing eye for my car (x2, v6). It is not mentioned in user manual anywhere.

Know what you're saying, but if you ain't got brakes, you could have tractor tyres on all four corners and you wouldn't be stopping. As far as cost, I would just love to get a set of tyres for £300. Summer or all weather ones for my car are way beyond that for decent brands.

right, today i have.....

tested a different fan...so i believe i can rule that out.

tested a cheapy transistor from ebay, if that was duff then obviously had one in the other fan and just for luck tried another one i pulled from a 406...no luck..so i believe i can rule that out.

i can hear movement from the vents...im guessing the heat flaps...

Thanks for the update, looks like its a definite software block then *#*#~!.
Options are there in the BSI but do nothing when activated (specifically blocking the CC stalk on/off switch data).
Without access to the code for the BSI - not much hope of removing/working round the block.
Looks like the early 1.6HDi without FAP...

Well have solved the DPF problem on the 2.2 hdi now not going in to limp mode every few miles.
I have also got rid of all of the associated fault messages that were coming up on the lexia I now only have 2 persistent ones left to fix one is Post heating short to positive which I assume is a dead glow plug but the one that is really bugging me is...

Does anyone know please if the Gearbox ECU for the C3 Sensodrive is Plug and Play, or does it need programming after fitting ?

When you done the previous setup it's set up on that ECU so you would need to do it again. The car probably wont start till this is done as it wont know if it's in neutral or not, you also need to program the correct tyre size into the ECU aswell. Even if it did start & drive straight away I would still highly recomend getting it set up again as...
