Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

So having driven the Xantia from Weymouth to King's Lynn, I noticed a rattly noise from the drivers side of the engine bay. On further inspection the timing belt tensioner had lunched it's bearings and almost burnt right through the timing belt case.. So i've stripped the timing end of the engine down, covers, mounting and the offending pulley....

While stripping bits off the blue VSX before the (rotten) shell is consigned to the crusher, I've made some interesting discoveries (so far):

The Hydractive pipe that runs across the front cross member under the radiator was as rotten as a pear - starting to weep LHM on the section between the O/S strut and the electrovalve, looking just as bad...

The Drvers strut pipe rusting on hydractive cars appears to be a common thing! My old blue V6 was like this when I had it, in my V6 blog in a light original resto I sowed this. I removed both pipes, cleaned them down and painted them up..

Its a pipe just like SERIES 2 PAS pipes that arent coated in protection and need close inspection freqently.

Anyone any thoughts on my mate John's Xantia HDi 90, please ?

Symptoms:
Driving along one day, it seemed to suffer fuel starvation & coasted to a halt.
John assumed low pressure (in tank) pump, and swapped it - by the side of the road - with the spare one he had with him (as you do !)
Car starts & runs ok for a day or two, until the same thing...

Hi chaps,

The ABS light, after showing intermittently for a few weeks, has now come on permanently, accompanied by the usual ABS Fault display. Does anyone have details of the pin-outs for the ABS ECU connector so that I can find out which one of the wheel sensors is at fault? There's a sticky with Xantia details but I can't find one for the C5....

Next time you have to do any work on seized bolts you might want to treat them to a daily does of Plus Gas for a week prior to the work. This usually frees them off.

Hi All,

Thoughts on the following;

Wish to remove anti-sink sphere( sphere is turning but flare spanner is turning on nut, t would appeared to have been rounded off) but the hydraulic pipe is not budging for love or money. Have tried mule grips but still turning?

A curious find today, whilst remove the rear suspension return, which cracked when pressurised, at the HC pipe end found a steel wire within pipe :!:
My thought was to reduce internal pipe size thus reduce pressure within return pipe.

Anybody with any other thoughts.

I often passed by workshops and quite a number of them would advertise Fuel Injector Cleaning services.

Is it worth doing it for my old Citroen C5? Any repercussion of doing this maintenance service?

Is 'begins' referring to petrol injectors or diesel injectors ? There's a world of difference between them...
If I remember correct in one of his posts 'begins' has written that it's a 2.0 petrol C5 (same engine like mine).

I have never cleaned fuel injectors in my current petrol and not also in previous car Xantia 2.0 petrol which made 400k km...

One is drop links do you need a splitter to remove from anti roll bar and strut base? or could you tap out.

Another is the dashboard/clocks as A too dim B is there a way to make them brighter as esp if need to use lights in daytime i can't see the speedo i know one is not working right as bit darker in one area but...

Was putting the car back together today, so thought I'd see if I could get the condenser out and have a look at the hole in it. Got the top connection off, but the bottom is a refusnik so far... Basically there are 2 o-rings on the end of the pipe, then a big tear drop shaped collar, through which a stud protrudes, and the whole shebang is held...

Just checking NGK's product catalogue for Xantia spark plugs and all it now shows are BKR6EZ for all models with later engines. This is a single electrode plug, but a multi electrode plug was available under a slightly different number, developed for the Turbo petrol engine. Anybody know this part number?

I've just bought this C5 and the windscreen washers do not work. When the stalk is pulled back the wipers sweep a couple of times as they should but I get no water. I can't hear a pump whirring. Does anyone have any suggestions for fault finding? It may be unrelated but on the same stalk...

I have a C5 2002 HDI that will not start.

When running global test with Lexia the Injector ECU shows an immobilizer fault. I am not able to clear the fault as each time Lexia returns a communication error. I am able to clear faults and adjust all other ecu's.

Hi chaps.

I've just bought a 2003 Mark 1 C5 V6 Exclusive SE for very little. It needs a bit of work, and just this evening I've been offered another C5 V6, this time just an Exclusive, although it does have full leather.

Would it be easy to transfer the nav from the SE into the other car? Or are we looking at some ridiculous task?

Unfortunately, the newer Exclusives don't have full leather as standard, it's still an option. I've tried to find a definitive list of standard specifications for the exclusive model but it's nigh on impossible. I still don't know what constitutes the Exclusive tag, but it isn't full leather or Sat nav. Plenty don't have that, nor window blinds or...

the locks keep rotating in the barrels and not registering at all about 50% of the time. is there any sort of aftermarket replacement for all of this and does anybody have any diagrams tips etc ...

Can anybody tell me where the thermostat is for the cooling system for a 2001 C5 3.0 V6? or where the sensor is?

It seems to be overheating had water steaming and pouring out of the cap on the headertank and dripping down into the wheel arch :( . It did in the winter do a little trick of going to max temperature for a short while when very cold...

I would start checking fuses. On the Xantia there is a fuse for the instrument panel. If yours has such a fuse, it would be reasonable to assume that if the fuse has failed the instrument panel would stop working.

It's the suspension pump cutting in and out. It causes a very quick voltage drop which shows as a headlight flicker. There's nothing you can do about it. They all do that, it is completely normal

I'm looking to change the diesel filter on my C5 (X7) - I've done plenty of fuel filter changes on my previous Xants and the actual changing of the filter isn't a problem for me, but I see in Citroen DocBackup that they reference temporarily fitting a T-piece pipe after replacing the filter and purging the fuel lines with the bulb primer for 1...

After 2 changes of Esso LT71141 in my C5 (year 2007), I don't find improvement in my gearbox smoothness hence I will be considering either Amsoil or Redline ATF in my next ATF change (probably in about 2 weeks time).

The 2 mentioned brands are widely available here, whereas Esso LT71141 is harder to come by and its price is on the high...

Have lately been using exclusively V power, and combined with giving the engine a damn good thrashing, performance has steadily got better and a ticking injector is now silent. A couple of weeks ago I tried taking it easy for a week but the ticking returned. This week after a few motorway runs it's better than ever and I'd like to keep...

zs&tas, I agree about the Shell fuel, especially the V power, it's definitely cleaning out things and the car feels better every fill. As for Redex etc. the only one I've found that really works is Slick 50 fuel system treatment, give it a try, you wont be...

I've saved the HP pump, the pressure regulator and various bits of pipe from the VSX with the intention of building my own sphere tester. I've found a picture of Jim's rig, but need to get clear in my mind how to arrange the plumbing as I can't quite see where all the pipes go.

Hi, sometimes when i lock/unlock the car with the fob the drivers door doesnt lock or unlock, sometimes it works fine, it still works fine with the key but is a bit fiddly at night in the dark finding the keyhole any ideas to what the problem could be many thanks in advance [-o<

I knew somebody who had an issue with his remote being intermittent. It was down to the transmitter crystal in the keyfob. I believe it was a 20MHz crystal (I am NOT certain of this) and when he replaced the crystal the problem went away.

Hi,

Started up one of my CXs for the first time in a couple of years on Sunday and it promptly repaid me with a cloud of atomised LHM :lol:

I need to replace the curly pipe that runs from the main accumulator to the brake accumulator and I'm so dissolusioned with Citroen Parts supply for my Xantia, I can't even be bothered to ring them about...

Hey guys,

My C4 has this tendency to drive to right side of the road if I take my hands off the steering wheel! So I took it for steering alignment. The guy used the computerized system (mounting an apparatus on each wheel, connected via cable to the computer system) to align it. While aligning, the guy told that my tie rod endings are different...

I have one of these for tie rod removal, it is about the only thing that will get them undone, I would suggest swapping your tyres/ wheels around first , and see what happens, worn tie rod will not make the car pull , unless it's really worn excessively , 4th one down .

Hi all,

My C5 left Xeon headlamp seems jerky. I can see it clearly when my car stop behind the car in front and the light get reflected on the front car rear bumper.

I am not quite sure whether this means I have to replace the bulbs (expensive in the 1st place) or the directional headlamp has its screw loosened somewhere?

My engine management light came on with a anti pollution fault, had the car put on computer by local garage (not dealer) and it said brake light switch problem (what this has to do with anti pollution i don't no) so we changed the switch, ok for a couple of days then comes on again, computer still says same problem, every time we clear the fault...

Xac is having the seats from the VSX and will need to becomes a dab hand at removing the seats so I thought I'd be helpful and relate my recent experience.

For the front seats, you need a long T40 (IIRC) bit, 3/8 adaptor, a long extension and a good rachet (or rachet plus 12 (ish braeker bar) because the seat cushions get in the way and the bolts...

For some reason, they don't go back into their drums anymore (since i've owned the car), they have to be fed back in & if aren't, take an absolute age to wind back up. Is this a common issue on these cars? Can they be fixed? if so any ideas? or is it simpler, & cheaper to just buy some 2nd hand one's that do work?

Got a 3.0i V6 C5, 2001 Reg, the pedal is almost at the floor, so it feels more like an off switch, and it really does not feel that powerful on acceleration , i can floor it when at a roundabout and the car hardly moves then a second later more power appears but still not enough to push you back in the seats as would be expected from that engine....

Okay. I have a 2003 C5 110hdi estate. For the last four years or so it has sank at the rear overnight. Research on here tells me that it is a leaking strut. Lately I have had a metallic banging from the rear, occasionally when going over a poor road surface but always when I pop the key and the pump runs to level out. One large bang from passenger...

I had a slight leak from my rear rubber boot, I ran a thin feeler gauge around the mating surfaces and added a strong cable tie to make it a tighter seal

I was told that there should be small amounts of fluid in the rubber boot hence the pipes that come of them. You may have a bigger problem if the car is sinking over night, is there enough fluid...

My poor old Xantia threw us a curve ball today. It's been a trooper this car even as a daily, but now is a bad time, as doing some distance at the end of may, and MOT due. Arrgh. Booked on tomorrow AM!

The rear of the car just got bouncy! I was carrying 2 heavy alloy wheels in the boot, not usually an issue is it? But after pulling over for lunch...

Got some information from a Launch diagnostic tool.

Seen to have a slight fault with the car, under hard acceleration I am getting a little hesitation. Sitting at idle and pressing the accelerator at approx 1500 revs the engine hip cups/misfires.

Do these figures look ok for the injectors?
Injector 1 0.35 mm3
Injector 2 -1.92 mm3

I am trying to find a problem with my c5 mk3 2 litre hdi
It started with sometimes
Idleing rough for a few seconds then returning to normal idleing with a slight drop in revs
This has now turned into if you accelerate hard the engine has a rattle like a bad diesel knock and brings the enging managemet light on I have read the codes with lexia...

Don't know if the HP pumps are the same as the 8 valve but I have had problems with a couple of those due to the regulator filter being blocked. They don't all have filters and are almost impossible to clean anyway but if you grind the end off they seem to work fine.

I ordered a new alternator belt for my car (reg no MA59 AKG) from Euro Car Parts and received 6PK1710 one.

I've just had a look under the bonnet and seen that it's got a much shorter 6PK976 fitted.

Any idea which is the correct one? If it's an incorrect one fitted at the moment, this would explain why the air con is not working.

There should be an ID Plate near the filler hole on the top of the box

My advice if you do have an Aisin Warner TF-80SC, AF40/6 autobox, never drive through standing water, and change your ATF every 40-50,000 miles.

I just purchased a pair of oil seal (Left side and Right side) for my Citroen C5 Year 2007 2.0 Petrol. The seals look very differently from each other so I'm worried.

The part number for the left side is 312164 and the right side is 312142.

Can the experts and kind souls advise me whether they are the correct seals to use? I'm going...

Think I may have found the reason for my persistent squeaking from around N/S front door. It seems to have a few of the door card plastic clips broken.
