I've been teaching the kids to drive in the Xsara, and it's highlighted a problem I hadn't noticed before - when it stalls (learners do this a lot...) it will not restart unless the key ignition key is taken out first. It can't be stalled and simply have the key turned - it'll turn but that's all. I'm pretty sure you can't turn off and try, it must have the key taken out. It'll then fire straight up as normal. Not a huge problem as we've got dealing with it sorted to a fine art, but be nice to get to the bottom of it.
Laptop with Lexia currently on charge, I'll see if that gives any clues later. Any thoughts in the meantime please?

Now that's interesting as that's what the 207 I have here does. When it cuts out (effectively stalls) randomly, it will not restart until the key is out and back in again...
Does your Xsara have a BSI?

Hi Jim, yes, I think so...
Hesitant because I've connected up to it before but for the life of me can't remember how far I went. Laptop's pretty well charged up now so Il'll have a look. Anything in particular you have in mind?

No, sadly not, I'm as curious as you to see if it might point to any clues as to why this 207 I have randomly cuts out and tries to kill the driver...Monkeyfeet wrote:Anything in particular you have in mind?

Sounds like a right laugh...
For the Xsara I'm thinking maybe immobiliser. It's also got a door locking fault, (slim) chance issues are connected.
Just go a few jobs to do on the Disco first, I'll keep you posted though!

Re: Xsara Hdi 110 2004 & Learners
For what it's worth, I've go the same model, 2003 HDi 110. Not easy for me to stall it as I've had it since new but I did manage to not long ago when I forgot I was wearing my posh shoes. Definitely didn't have to remove the key to restart it, so something isn't right.

Re: Xsara Hdi 110 2004 & Learners
Cheers Gents. Definitely not right, like you I don't remember stalling it before the learners came along so not sure if it's always done it or not.
Oh yes bloody Citroens! Bloody Lexia as well yesterday - if I leave the laptop and the batteries (yes, two) go flat then I have to "re-register" Lexia on it. And I can never remember exactly how . Well its running now so try again

A 2004 will definitely have a BSI & be fully multiplexed.CitroJim wrote: Does your Xsara have a BSI?

Re: Xsara Hdi 110 2004 & Learners
Yep, BSI presence confirmed
Apart from a permanent fault, front LH door I couldn't find anything amiss.
Took some screen shots and stores and I'll take a closer look but scratching my head on the stalling issue...

Re: Xsara Hdi 110 2004 & Learners
Got me wondering now, will try stalling the 206 (slightly easier being the 1.4 HDi) and restarting in a bit. I wonder if there's a weak earth strap that's perhaps being upset when it stalls, bearing in mind the engine is likely to jump in it's mountings a little when it happens, & if that could be causing the immobiliser to kick in/not look for the key until it's switched off/removed? I do know the heavy cabling on PSA kit of this vintage is known to be a little flaky. Only a stab in the dark, but if Lexia throws no light on it then may as well start with the basics.

Re: Xsara Hdi 110 2004 & Learners
Hmm, hadn't thought of that, and to be honest fitting an (extra) earth strap wouldn't take much and it can't do any harm.
Now to dig out those old battery rack connectors I was saving!
