5w30?

Unread post by milleplod »

Quick query! My '09 2.0HDi is on 75k miles. Am I right in thinking that the correct oil is synthetic 5w30 that meets ACEA C2? ECP show 5w40 also, Opie just show 5w30.....and my handbook shows bugger all!

I believe you need Total Quarz Ineo 7000 or equivalent low sulphur oil for your engine.
5W30/10W30/10W40 dependent on local ambient temperature.

I'm surprised the handbook shows nothing about recommended lubricants.

My Picasso handbook helpfully says "Check that the oil conforms to manufacturers recommendations". Equally helpful on brake fluid.

I think there might be something in the service record book, but if I remember correctly its all Total branded - so "Total Quartz XYZ" or whatever, which tells you nothing about whether its synth, semi synth or the grade unless you research further. But the service book is in the car and its cold outside .....

So, quite gone are the days when owners might add oil to their engines, let alone change it!

Mine for the earlier model has a range of oils and oil change recommendations dependent on use and climate.
They are not the same as yours though as I have no particle filter/Eolys.

Many thanks for the replies and info therein. That guide's very detailed Marc....it sent me cross-eyed! :-D

I eventually found the recommended oil 'list' in the service booklet. I've settled on 5w-30 Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C2 from Opie - 6 ltrs with a Mahle filter is £44 delivered, which seems good value. They do supply the same-spec stuff from a supplier called G-Force, but I couldn't find any info on them online, so stuck with a known brand. Mind you, I suppose the G-Force must be OK for Opie to be supplying it.

Pete,

When you do your oil and filter change you will only use 5 litres as there is a residue left you can't get out.

I have done few now and checked after 100miles and 500 miles and not require to top up which saves on buying the extra .

But I always have extra in the garage and in the car just in case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for that Kenny, handy to know! I was just about to order it too, so that's a few quid saved.... :-D I bought the car off the original owner, he had the oil and filter changed every year and said it used hardly any, certainly not enough to warrant topping up between services.
