Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've got a little shortlist of cars after being without one for a while now.

I've found a 2001 607 with 65k and 11 months MOT and 5 months tax. Looks tidy enough, though there is a scratch and the wheels are not too good apparently.

just picked this up today at a decent price, couple of niggles though one being that the car pulls to the right. by time i got home it was dark and so i couldn't give it a thorough look over.

First place to check for broken wires is just before the multi plug connection in the hinge area of the drivers door. Peel back the rubber cover from the back of the multi plug & check the wires.
I've just recently repaired a couple of broken wires on our Xsara in the same place that were causing the central locking not to work.

Hi, just after some advise. We have a peugeot 206 1.6 8v which likes to overheat on idle. I have changed the thermostat and backwashed the radiator. I have also checked that the fan is working and the 2 speed relays are doing their job. New to the site so be kind. Just bought a peugeot 206 xs and we have one manual mirror and one electric mirror. we don't have the switch to move the mirrors but i removed the backing plates to the mirror to find a brown lug with 5 wires going into in. Would this lug be for the electric mirrors???? (ie, heated, movement). We are trying to find out...

My daughter has recently bought a 1999 2.0 se convertible and I was wondering whether anyone could tell me what security there is on it. There is no remote on the key and no key pad. Presume there is an immobiliser if no alarm ? Also does anyone know whether the handbook for these is available. Thanks

Test drove my first coupe yesterday and such a shame it turned out to be a bag of s**t. 1495.00 at catterick garrison (dealer) on ebay and best avoided although they said thry would not sell it in current condition.

Bumpy ride as expected!!
runs at 105 - 110 degrees with fan on and on a cool damp day
Oil and stop light on at low revs
ripped...

Sounds like some serious problems there Marty. Oil light on at idle is very worrying. I'm presuming this is a manual V6 Coupe. If it's an auto and banging on changes then that too would be grave cause for concern.

One to avoid unless you can get it for silly money and desire a project.

Hi,

I have fluctating idle and the car seems a bit jerky at low speed. No apparent loss of power or fuel economy.

I've read on lots of forums about Sagem coil packs (which mine is) giving larger than expected voltages which can damage the ECU.

Corrective action is replace Ignition coils and ECU. Everyone recommends changing to Bougicord coils,...

I am sure that is it the power steering pressure sensor which is faulty.

Unplugging and plugging causes/stops the problem.

Power steering pump is belt driven and takes load. Sensor detects when more load is taken and engine increases idle to compensate.

Fluid levels OK and no bad noises so assume faulty sensors.

Drives like it use to now!...

Chaps,

Just bought an '03 206 Verve 1.4 for the Wife & Daughter to fight over. I'm picking it up this evening. Looks tidy enough with no panel damage, good paint etc, engine starts and sounds sweet enough, pulls well and stops in a straight line.

more likely to be a broken wire or three in the door shut, if this is the case make sure any fix you do patching wire in you attatch enough wire so all joints are inside the door pillar and not in the door shut, or they wont last long,

HI, I have just started having some weird and not so wonderful goings on with my '406. The fans seem to be on full as soon as the temp guage reads 70 degrees and then stay on until I turn the car off. At this point they turn off.

My v6 cooling fans blasts occasionally when it feels like it usually when it hits 75 degrees, its not overheating and never goes past 80 degrees, hence the fan seems to be supercooling the radiator, it is running fine at the moment and runs better than when the fan is blasting. So thinking there was an air pocket trapped i replaced the fluid using...

Hi,

I have just bought a 106. When i picked it up the fuse was pulled for the immobiliser and the previous owner said it had never needed a code.

I plugged it back in, and lo and behold the light goes to green as soon as the ignition is turned on.

I'm just wondering if you can et the keypad to not require a code, and how you would go about...

It started a few months ago when my 206 2.0HDi 90 put up a warning sign that its coolect temperature was too high, it said stop on the dash and made a beep. It only stayed on for a couple of seconds so i didnt stop and carried on.

Since then its been getting a bit more fequent but yesterday driving to work it put the warning up on the centre...

New poster in Peugeot section, so apologies if this has all been done before.

2004 reg 307 HDi, anyone know what triggers the glowplug unit ? The relay itself has about eight connections, at least four of which appear to be Neg. Getting no voltage to the plugs. Replaced relay with brand new one, but no change. Can't find a wiring diagram for this...

The glowplugs dont come on unless it's really cold (around 0 degrees)
If you are having starting problems i doubt it's glowplug related

I'm on the look out for an exhaust pipe - the centre pipe with the cat on between the manifold and the rear silencer.

Does anyone know if the 405 would fit the 406? not bothered about the catalytic converter either way......

Hello, been a while since I posted here. over the last few weeks i've been hearing a knocking sound whilst slowing down, this noise disappears if I press the clutch down. I can't see anything obvious. Last night whilst driving the gear stick kept jamming in neutral (this was inbetween gear changes, especially when going to 3rd). Any ideas as to...

Well after driving the car for a few more weeks and having the problem occur a few more times I m fairly confident that te gearbox is at fault.
I think this because the noise is now present even with the clutch pedl pressed down or if you coast in neutral.
Best get looking for a replacement box or car then.....

Tuning companies will often claim improved mpg, but I would be very surprised if you saw any realistic gains, certainly not enough to make the map pay for itself. Just realized I am panicking over nothing in relation to the belt for the Xsara. I did the belt on my Fiat 2L years ago and have done a Renault 20, Peugeot 505 and Fuego belt at some time so shouldn't be a problem. The Fiat was a twin cam and Italian so the French stuff will be as easy as falling over.

hi there i own a 206 lx 1999 1.4, great car but it keeps conking out when its at idle, sometimes it will be fine and other times it will just keep dying, say when you dip the clutch or are in between gears.

It normally gets worse the longer i drive?!

could this be a dodgy coil? if not then what else is it likely to be?

After a couple of horrendous journeys in the 405 I have decided it is headed for the scrapyard (or part ex preferably) so I'm looking for a new car.

Went for a test drive in a very nice X-reg 406 2.0 HDi this morning think it was a GLX, seemed to have all the toys, electric seats, AC, CD player, SatNav supposedly; couldn't find it....

The air bag light is not an mot fail,but will be an advisory.Could well be the connections under the seat(as the a/bags are in seat sides).I had my connections re-solidered which cured the problem,same as the Xantias etc.

Didn't want either post to get lost in the other, hence a new thread.

Have looked at another 406 tonight 03 plate 110 2.0HDi GLX for around £1700, 135,000 miles with all the toys it seems.

The only problem being it was an insurance write from needing two new nearside doors. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet so it may not be worth pursuing...

Just wondered if anyone can diagnose some stuff for me?

What are the typical symptoms for a worn track rod end? I am feeling a bit of vibration coming through the car during acceleration and a fairly obvious vibration at higher speeds.

Are wheel bearings noisy throughout?

Hi Lawrence,

No a track rod end won't cause that sort of vibration normally. It will sometine rattle if really badly worn but since the MOT was so recent, they would have spotted it for sure. In my experience, badly worn track rod ends give slightly vague steering.

It sounds to me much like a worn CV joint if all other possibilities such as...

Hi can anyone tell me what the oil cpacity is for a Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI 2002 is please?

The dipstick doesn't seem to have markings, only 3 small circles - 1 at the top, middle and bottom.

I have put 4.5 litres in for now as this is an educated guess but guessing won't do!

Well I eventually tracked down an online manual for my car but only the petrol version.
However the dashboard functions are virtually the same and when you turn the key first of all it shows you how much oil is on the dipstick on the display.
It is around 4 litres in case anyone else needs this info.

My problem is complete failure of the engine whilst driving, clouds of black and then grey smoke, and then it completely stopped. I was in a similar situation recently and it turned out not to be the head gasket but something more sinister! check out the thread about the engine swap I did.

Hopefully some helpful advice for you......

Have you removed the turbo black plastic pipes yet? I wasn't sure if that what you meant by the pipes from underneath/turbo....

Just had the ABS code read on my 406.I need a new l/h drive shaft.The Peugeot main dealer has quoted £252 all in to replace,inc d/shaft,gaiters & g/box oil.After costing it my self,it comes to £130 ish.
My question is,if i do it myself,will the ABS light have to be reset,or will the ecu detect no fault & clear itself??

I have a 95 405 GLX.

It has started getting the ususal 200k knock from the front suspension - there was an advisary on the mot in june for a worn fron bush on the front nearside wishbone.

My question is this:

I have had 405's in the past and have replaced the wishbone. Whilst I know they are not dear the mechanic who did the MOT seemed to think...

yes they can be re/bushed, but i can also be very hard getting the front wishbone rear bush back on to its spigot and in its corect plain,

if you dont have access to a press then you might be better off replaceing the hole arm

How many bleed valves should I expect to find on a 1996 P reg 1.9td 405?

So far I've got one on the radiator itself, at the opposite end from the filler cap, and one on the hose from behind the fuel filter housing to the radiator.

I have recently had a problem with an airlock on long runs, car runs fine to start with but once switched off it...

Just had another look at the car, can't see any pipes resembling that layout, think I've found the heater pipes, much bigger pipes than those and no sign of a bleed valve.

Checked the coolant level now that the car has cooled, slight hiss as I released the radiator cap, not sure but I suspect a vacuum where the water has cooled.

Still not sure...

Dear all, Just fitted a replacement engine after all my bad luck.

All is well and fitted but I have no fuel reaching the injectors. Could be stop solenoid. I have bled the system but from experience these pumps usually disperse the air pretty well.

I am wondering if any Lexia machine resetting is necessary?

Paul , sorry for the delay in posting, I haven't been on the forum for a while and thanks for the info Mark - As Jim mentioned it seems to be working with a direct attachment to the pump timing cable. This may prove to muck about with the timing but, fingers crossed it's been fine -I would need an expert to run another cable through I think!...

On the speedo problem, that sounds like a failing vehicle speed sensor or a poor connection to it.

It'll be worth checking the plug on top of it. You'll find the speed sensor on the RH side of the diff/final drive just above where the driveshaft comes out.

That's the double injection relay. It feeds power to the ECU amongst other things and is under the control of the immobiliser. Check it has a good earth.

I wonder if anyone has any idea how to fix my problem on my '96 406 2.1 td.
The runs fine with no probs, the issue arises when i turn off the ignition, the engine runs on for a few seconds. The engine management light then comes on the next time I start the car (in fact because this happens everytime I stop the car, the light is permanently on!)...

Hi Cliff,

Bad news I'm afraid. This is a symptom of a failing ESOS electrovalve in the pump. These valves take the place of the stop solenoid and also control timing and fuel delivery under ECU control. The viton tips on the end of them perish and cause them to leak.

What is happening in your case is the ESOS is not sealing off on a stop command...

I am a taxi driver and i have been hearing from other drivers that there is a problem about the 60k mark for clutch/flywheel on these diesel engines.? had i known 1 day earlier i could have saved a fortune by getting the work under warranty. here is my story, if anyone can point me in the direction of additional information regarding this problem....

hi guys, i have a 405 sti xu10j2c automatic, and just wanting a small modification to the engine, I was thinking about upgrading my engine with a 16 valve head from an 406 2.0 (xu10j4r), anyone tried this before?? and what work is required??

It may be possible as I understand the blocks are substantially the same and the drillings might be in place for the additional cambelt idlers necessary.

However, having said that, you face major problems with determining that the compression ratio will remain in limits and the old 8V injection may not suit the 16V head. You may have to use...

I have water sloshing around in the drivers side sill!!! :( It looks like its been getting in through the rear passenger door sill,where on the 406 there is a rubber sealing strip which is held in place by clipping into the sill.The end piece has come out & i think the water has been getting in through the hole where it should be clipped in.

I think what Honest John was referring to the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) which drives the speedo.

This is located down on the final drive of the gearbox in more or less the same place as you would have found the sppedo cable years ago. It is mounted on the RH (long) driveshaft housing and has a three pin connector going to it.

i have just completely removed the imob from my R reg 98 XANT 1.9TD,
very hard to get at all the shear studs which hold the armour in place, but with a bit of noshing,bashing and grinding, and sorry no bumpping, she was away

then run a switched live to the solanoid shut of valve,

I know it sounds like a soung from the Wurzels but its true... i repalced the clutch,clutch plate and release bearing due to the bearing falling a part in my hand when removed it. This was around 5 thousand miles ago and once everything was replaced and refitted all was ok... but now the clutch/gear box sounds very noisey more so in the mornings,...
