Ok it seems I have the usual EGR valve issue with my 05 plate 307 1.6 hdi. I have seen these blanking plates that are offered and have a couple of questions.
1) will it make the engine emission light go off on the dash if I use a blanking plate
2) will there be any power loss by using a blanking plate
3) will I need to disconnect the wiring connector going to the egr valve?

Re: 307 1.6HDI EGR issue
1. It depends on engine. Some owners have needed to delete the EGR from the ECU, so combined it with a remap and / or remap and DPF removal.
2. No.
3. You shouldn't.
I've fitted two plates on the 1.6 110bhp engine in a 57 plate 307 and a 54 plate 407 and not disconnected any electrical plugs.
My current car is a 2L 90bhp 307 and the EGR valve it too hard to reach, so I blocked the pipe and unplugged the electrical connection:
