peugoet 406 auto lights????

Post by deano1970 »

hi,
just bought an old 52 plate 406 hdi estate, quite a nice car...prob need a new indicator stalk as the one on it quite loose (turns straight to turning left, after turning right) anyway, the problem is the auto lights function.... If I turn it on using the stalk, the message comes up saying auto lights are on and the lights come on no matter if it's day or night, and the green "dipped beam" lamp on the dash flashes constantly,If I press the stalk again to turn auto lights off,the green lamp goes steady but the lights stay on until I turn the engine off, then he function is cancelled.....there must be a fault somewhere on the auto function but does anybody know where I would need to investigate?? the lights all work fine, just auto function the lights are always on and the green flashing dipped beam icon on the dash?? Thanks for any help,dean......

Classic signs of a failed COM2000 - as is the floppy indicator stalk. Post up the last 8 digits of the VIN and I'll get the part no for a replacement - there are, seemingly, hundreds of different ones  About £80 - £200 aftermarket depending on which one and where from.

Here you go

Reference Description Quantity Price - VAT Price + VAT Total + VAT Selection
00006242C2 CONTROL UNIT 261.24 GBP 313.49 GBP 313.49 GBP

There are lots of part numbers, but I am not sure what the differences are - first is to check that it's the right make, and has got the right combination of lights and wipers, and the right air bag connectors - that will go a long way to seeing it will fit!! I was looking for one for my Sister's Xsara earlier in the year, and 60-80 + postage was the going rate on e-bay. in the end we bought a re-man one for £120 - hers being a rare one, and quite dear....

cheers richard, I don't want to spend anything like that on it, lol...I only paid 550 for it with full mot and a month tax, everything works on it,just the auto function puts all lights on day or night, think I will have to put up with it for a while.......why is everything so ridiculously expensive??? There's a gent called Graeme up in Bradford who can repair these Comm2000 units for way way cheaper. I'll root his number out and pm you tomorrow. You can either take the car to him and wait or send him the unit in the post..

I'm just a grumpy Northern git.

nice one, thanks for that.......is the unit difficult to take off? I imagine it only being screws or torx bolts?? may well be worth letting the guy repair it,seems the cheapest option.I asked online at breakers and been quoted 51 quid and 30 quid for the unit off 2 different breakers but I am wary as richard said there are many different ones?? cheers, think getting it repaired is the best option.... :-)

Shouldn't be too bad - you need to remove the air bag though, and not sure how that comes off, it's probably clipped on, but releasing the clips can be tough. After that wheel off, shrouds off, slacken the clamp bolt on the back and slide it off, unplugging the wires as you go.

I`ve just replaced a comms 2000 on a 02 HDi 406 estate, got a genuine Valeo OE part from GSF for £178.Its a really easy job once you have mastered the trick of releasing the big circlip holding the airbag. Stupid idea.

well,
i'm not a million miles from bradford and the fact this guy will do the job for me for £45 sounds a bargain to be fair....will pop over one day when i'm off work,no great rush, the only thing I have to keep checking is my left indicator isn't on after going round a right turn...will this,as richard says it's a faulty com2000 . fix the faulty auto lights as well I wonder?? hope so....will get it done in next couple of weeks, i'll post on here again as to how I get on,cheers....
